Electric

When her hand touched his, she felt an incredible feeling. It was like a zap of electricity ran through her fingers and palm. At first she thought she had imagined it or was just over reacting but it was so prominent she knew she had felt it. After she had come to the final step, Piers leaned in and placed a soft kiss on her cheek. "Welcome, Vivienne." His smooth, deep voice reverberated in her ear, making her cheeks burn a deep red. "Thank you, Piers. Your home is absolutely stunning.. It's .. magical." To be truthful, she wasn't even sure she'd been in an actual castle that was more beautiful than this. There was something about it that was warming and elegant in every way.

Piers lifted one side of his lips in a smirk, looking down to meet her eyes. "I'm glad you like it. I trust your drive here was uneventful?" "Yes, it was. Thank you for sending the car." She smiled gently, ignoring everyone else and everything else around them. A waiter in a white button down and black tie approached with a silver tray adorned with flutes of champagne. Piers took one for Vivienne, handing it to her gently before taking one for himself. "Cheers to a fun evening." Vivienne held out her flute and Piers clinked his against hers. "To a fun evening." He smirked at her before they both took a sip, their eyes never leaving one another.

"This party is.. insane." Piers put one hand back in his pocket. "Insane? I find it quite tame compared to the usual." Vivienne smiled. "No, I mean it's beautiful.. I don't think I remember the last time I've been to a party this large. When you said party I thought perhaps... well actually I don't know what I thought." Piers took another small sip of his champagne before responding. "Something tells me you've been to quite a few soiree in your life." He teased.

Vivienne laughed lightly. "I may have been to one or two." Having grown up wealthy and then becoming wealthy herself had introduced her to a whole host of characters. While Vivienne had always been taught by her mother and uncle to practice restraint and to never indulge past a tipping point, plenty of the friends she had growing up were not taught the same. The kinds of parties she had been invited to were lavish, luxurious, and some were wild beyond comprehension. Some were in entirely different countries, some included a swimming pool filled entirely with champagne. At one party, one that she spent all of five minutes in before swiftly leaving, attendees were instructed to strip down for the entirety of it. That was the thing about wealth. Some people had absolutely no limit, no self control. The world was their playground and any insane idea that popped in their head they could make a reality. Any impulse they had, desire they had, they could find someone or pay someone to fill it. While some of it was exciting for a brief time in her life, each party trying to do it's best to be even more shocking than the last, Vivienne had grown bored of that kind of a life. It wasn't one she was every truly interested in to begin with. She was much more content to spend her evening in leggings with a bowl of popcorn and a mind numbing movie on TV. A party like this where people behaved normally was definitely more her speed.

"Would you care for a dance?" Piers asked her, setting his empty champagne flute on a nearby table. A blush crept onto her cheeks once more and her heart skipped a beat thinking about it. "Sure." She smiled and put down her glass, Piers extending his hand to her once more. Once again when she took his hand she felt the small jolt of electricity run through her hand and an almost inaudible gasp left her lips as she looked down at their clasped hands and then back to Piers' piercing red eyes. Had he felt it too? If he had he didn't give any kind of indication to her.

When Piers walked towards the dance floor holding Vivienne's hand, the nearby vampires bowed their heads to him, but kept their eyes on Vivienne. All of them curious and wondering who this new human was that had captured Piers' attention. Piers brought her to the middle of the dancefloor, her heels clicking softly against the wooden platform. He gently put a hand on the small of her back. Vivienne reached up and put a hand gently on his shoulder. It felt so strong and firm, like a hard rock underneath her palm. She looked up to meet his gaze, finding him staring at her intently, his eyes seeming even brighter of a red than usual. She blushed and looked away for a moment, taking in her surroundings. The way he gazed at her made her even more nervous and anxious than before. Not because it was uncomfortable but because she still wasn't able to wrap her mind around what was even happening. She was in a gown, dancing with a vampire in a beautiful castle like setting. It didn't even seem or sound real. How was this real life?

She cleared her throat, desperately wanting some form of conversation to fill the silence. "So is everyone else here..." Piers figured what she meant, "Most. Though some have human companions. It's not entirely uncommon. Some keep humans around as entertainment more than anything else.. Others have found themselves in love. We were all once humans anyway." Vivienne nodded, thinking over the casual way he put things. To him this was all normal and had been his normal for a long time. She briefly questioned in her mind how old he was.. He had never told her the last time she asked.

"Do a lot of vampires like to keep to themselves or with other vampires?" She asked Piers, looking up to meet his eyes once more. "They do.. After all it can be quite difficult to explain our predicament to a human who has no knowledge of us. Most are too scared, others are a little too eager to be a part of our world. There are some vampires who despise humans after all the years they've been alive and some form of that I think is natural after becoming a victim of immortality."

"And what about you?" Vivienne asked. Piers looked down at her thoughtfully. "Most humans can be frustrating.. But when you only get to live for a hundred years or so there's so much you don't know and will never understand. It's akin to being a child your whole life without ever knowing you were only a child the whole time." Vivienne nodded as they swayed to the music. The way he spoke of things with such clarity and maturity... It was incredibly attractive for someone to be so smart. Piers dropped his hand from her back and she was momentarily disappointed. "Would you like to take a walk?"
