The Love Letter

Wei Ying was determined to do it. He was finally going to confess to his crush of a year. And he was going to do it in a romantic and old school way.

By writing a love letter to his crush. He has read somewhere that handwritten letters are very romantic and will definitely win the heart of your crush. The inexperienced Wei Ying was quick to believe this.

It took him three days to poetically pen down his deep admiration and love for his crush on a high quality A4 size paper. By the time he was satisfied with the content on the paper his room was filled with rolled up pages scattered everywhere.

He adjusted his glasses, gave the letter one last look and wrote his name on it as beautifully as he could. He nodded his head in approval of his neat and beautiful writing.

He sprayed his favourite rose perfume on it and folded it before putting it in a red envelop. He put the envelop on top of his books on the desk and went to bed.

Looking at the roof he went through his plan of putting the letter in his crush's locker. He was too shy for direct confrontation so he had decided to secretly put the letter in the locker.

He didn't get much sleep as he kept thinking about the possibility of dating his crush. But when morning came he wasn't grumpy or tired but happy and full of energy.

He picked up the envelop and sprayed it with perfume before putting it inside his bag. There could never be too much perfume on a love letter in his opinion.

As he walked out of his home he threw a strawberry flavoured chewing gum in his mouth and chewed as he walked to the bus stop.

It was a habit he develop almost three years ago because of something his friend said. In front of the whole class he had told Wei Ying: "Your breath stinks."

Traumatized by the event, Wei Ying not only brushed his teeth vigorously twice a day but also always kept a pack of gum with himself. Initially he only ate one every other morning but then it became a habit and he ate an entire pack of gum in one day.

He ate one on his way to school, in classes, after breakfast, lunch and dinner, while playing and on his way back home. No matter the time of the day his breath always had a fresh but faint smell of strawberry.

He liked to think the actions of chewing strengthened his teeth so it was like killing two birds with a stone.

When he reached school the first thing he did was going to the lockers, his steps slow and heart beating in anticipation. He halted his steps when he heard chatter and saw a few girls standing in front of the lockers.

His crush, Ah Qing, was also there and he quickly turned back and ran to his class.

He sighed as he sat on his seat. He couldn't put the love letter in Ah Qing's locker.

"What's wrong?" his friend, Wen Ning, asked

"Nothing" he shook his head and took out his physics notebook. His eyes fell on the red envelop and he decided to send the letter during lunch.

As the last class before lunch ended and Wei Ying sneakily took out the red envelop he was called by their class teacher. She wanted to discuss the upcoming tests with him. He sighed and after putting back the letter followed the teacher.

When the last class for the day ended all the students sighed in relief and got up to leave. Wei Ying had a smile on his face and determination could be seen clearly in his eyes.

"Looks like you did well in today's test." Wen Ning smile

"Ofcourse" he replied with a proud smile while pushing his glasses up "what about you?"

"I'll pass"

"Aim higher, my freind" Wei Ying patted his shoulder and left

There were still students around the locker area but Wei Ying was determined to put the letter in Ah Qing's locker today. So he hid and waited for all of them to leave.

Once the coast was clear and he didn't hear anyone coming he ran to her locker with a smile. Slowly, he took the letter out of his bag and brought it closer to his face, seeing if it still had the rose scent. He thought the scent was just right, not too strong but not too weak either.

Just as he reached for the locker he heard footsteps approaching him. Scared and flustered, he opened the locker in a hurry, threw the envelop inside, closed it and ran away with a wildly beating heart and a wide smile.
