Chapter 10 - Maven

"So the ticket is for a 5 night trip on a cruise ship called Cassandra, and you got everything for free?" Yukanie said from on top of her mattress, she held the tickets up towards the ceiling while she glances at it from below. She adjusted her chair to face her bed, deep in thoughts.

"But who in their right mind would give away 1 ticket that cost 5k much less 4 of them?" She questioned.

"That's what I'm thinking about as well..." Yukanie said sitting up from the bed. "Could it be that you got some crazy stalker from your campus?" She added.

"What? No! Don't learn from Scarlet." She said rolling her eyes at Yukanie. "The emails you showed me seem to fit the title stalker more than mine."

Yukanie laughed and fell down back onto the bed, for a moment she was silent.

"Then the most we can do right now is ignore it, don't touch or reply to any of these things." Yukanie finally said.

"Mmmm..." That was all she could say as she grabbed the tickets off the bed and placed them in her desk drawer. She stood up, opening the window, letting a gush of wind into the warm and quiet house.

"You this light really reminds me of 5 years ago...." She said letting the cold wind bite into her skin. She suddenly understood what Scarlet meant by she smells the scent of summer and winter, it was almost like a feeling of old memories.

Before Yukanie could reply they heard the front door downstairs rattle open.

"Oh my sister's home, let me go downstairs and see if she wants lunch I'll be right back." She told Yukanie, who nodded as she left the room. She hurried down the stairs rather joyfully, feeling like she had lifted a burden just helping Scarlet.

"Sister, did you eat yet?" She called out. By the time she reached the button steps, her sister was not to be seen by the front door. She made her way to the doorway of the kitchen, seeing that her sister would always head in there after coming home for either a snack or a drink. But her sister was not in the kitchen.

"Sister? Hello?" She called out again. She wonders if her sister was in a bad mood once again, whenever her sister was in a bad mood her sister would not bother to reply to her. She considers if she should even bother her sister when she was in a bad mood when she heard something fell over in her parent's room all the way down the hall behind the stairs to her left. She frowned, even if her sister was in a bad mood what purpose did she have in their parent's room. She heard another thing crashed onto the floor in her parent's room, this time followed by a shattered vase breaking.

She froze in fear, even if her sister was mad she would not dare to break anything inside of the parent's room given their mother's temper. She slowly glances over to the front door of the slippers that still stayed on the rack. There what she saw made her blood ran cold. Her sister's slippers were still on there meaning whoever came through the front door, who is now in her parent's room was not her sister. She felt like every ounce of courage ran out of her, she has never dealt with a home intrude before, much less know what to do.

It was as if her feet moved on their own, she quickly made her way upstairs and back to her room. Yukanie's expression was kind of confused when she showed up back into the room looking rather paled, her confusion grew when she proceeded to lock the door to her room.

"What's going-" Yukanie went and asked, but she cut her off right away with a finger to her lips.

"Shh, I think there's someone in the house." She whispered back.

"What?" Yukanie said, staring at her blankly. "Wait shouldn't we call the police-"

They both froze when they heard the sound of heavy footsteps coming up the creaking stairs. At that moment She was grateful that she had locked the door behind her. They both jumped when they heard the doorknob to the room rattled harshly. Remaining quiet as best as they can they couldn't talk or make a single sound since she was sure the walls were not soundproof. She silently begged that her sister would not come home just then along with Scarlet, who knows what the person will do.

She didn't know how long they sat there, but none of them dare to make a single movement. She made sure to listen for its footsteps back down the stairs but she never heard any. She wonders if the person was in her sister's room, that being the only other room upstairs beside hers. But when she heard the front door open once more downstairs, she didn't know what to make of it. She was sure that she hadn't heard the person going downstairs so how was the front door open? Was her sister home or Scarlet?

"MAVEN!" Her sister's scream carried all the way up to her room. Both Yukanie and her shared a look. She had no idea if she should go down and save her sister or leave her sister be.

"MAVEN GET DOWN HERE RIGHT NOW!" Her sister shouted again.

Feeling like she had no choice she left her room, looking both ways. She saw the door to her sister's room was still closed with the hallway empty. She made her way downstairs carefully but her heart dropped when she saw the mess downstairs. Her sister stood at the doorway angrily while staring that the trail of glass left on the floor all the way up to the last step on the stairs.

"What in the world did you do? I left for an hour and I return to this how am I suppose to explain this to mom and dad?" Her sister hissed.

"No there was a break-in, they were the ones who trashed the house." She tried explaining.

"Break-in? Where's the police? Why did it take you so long to come downstairs?" Her sister questioned in anger, seeming not to believe a word she said.

She pointed upstairs and quickly went up leading her sister to the end of the hall where the door to her sister's room still remained shut. She was pretty sure she and yuka both heard the person heading this way and never down, she prepared herself as she threw the door open, revealing nothing the neat and nicely kept room of her sister.
