Chapter 15 - Scarlet

"MAVEN!" She shouted for the 7th time, slamming her hands against the door. She cursed herself why she hadn't realized that the door would be locked from both inside and outside. Placing her hand on the door handle she tried tugging on it and shaking it but it would not budge no matter how she twisted or pressed it. She made her way to the window and pulled the curtains back with not an amount of gentleness in her action. Seeing the storm outside and knowing her friends are outside the room where she couldn't do anything drove her crazy. She groaned and sat back down on the bed, running her finger through her hair in frustration, in the state of panic and the feeling of suffocation, the pain from her stomach was completely out of her notice. She got up again and went to the door, shouting as loud as she could and pounding on the door with her fist.

"ANYONE OUT THERE?! HELP ME GET THIS DOOR UNLOCKED!" She shouted a few more times, but all that was in vain as she waited and not a single noise could be heard from the other side of the room.

"HELP ME!" She shouted again in frustration.

She couldn't just sit here and not do anything herself, she hated that feeling. She stepped back and rammed her shoulder against the door as hard as she could. Only to be bounced by the reflecting force, she didn't stop even when she felt the throbbing pain on her shoulder. She had to be at least shouting for 13 minutes now, yet no one was answering and her friend was yet to be back. The feeling of being unable to do anything is killing her. When she brought her shoulder back and ran at the door again the floor suddenly titled and shook violently, throwing her off her balance. Instead of slammed against the door she crashed shoulder first onto the floor. The objects that were not glued to place slid off their place and crashed onto the floor at the sudden harsh movement.

What was going on? She thought, picking herself off the floor, she made her way to the window again, pushing aside the curtains that fell back in place since last time. She couldn't tell if she was seeing things but the level of the water seems to be rising, either that or the ship itself was slowly sinking. She heard the shouts and screams from the hallway, not being able to make out what they say but it was a sign of people. She quickly rushed to the door, slamming her hand against the door loudly.

"HELP ME! I'M STUCK!" She cried, she felt her hand going numb from the pain as it turned red.

"HELP! ANYONE! PLEASE!" She cried louder, but it seems that either her shout was not heard among the noise or it was ignored because of the chaos. She glances down at her feet realizing the rise of the water.

"EVERYONE PLEASE CALM DOWN AND SLOWLY MAKE YOUR WAY TO THE UPPER FLOOR!" She hears people shouted from the hallway.

"OPEN THE GODDAMN DOOR!!" She shouted in despair.

She stood back and ran at the door again with her shoulder, hearing the splashing of the water at her feet, but hearing a click when she was near the door, she couldn't stop herself completely before she slammed open the door and came face to face with a rushing crowd. Not wasting any time with them she quickly grabbed one of the workers nearby by the collar holding his whole attention on her.

"Have you seen a blond hair girl and a blue-haired girl?" She asked in a panic, feeling too panicked to even describe any more detail to the man. The man stared at her with wide eyes.

"I swear you guys need to stop playing games, first the blue hair girl then the blondie, and now-"

She slammed the guy against the wall, she did not want to hear the guy go on with the endless details, she felt like she was timed here.

"Where are they? That's all I'm asking you." She said darkly.

"Up-upper deck." The guy said shakily, once she had let go of him, he quickly stumbled away falling on all four as if his life depended on it. Seeing that everyone was rushing up the main stairway, she doubts she would get up there as quickly as she would like. Hurrying down the hall she came to a stop at a heavy metal door labeled "EMERGENCY EXIT"

Pushing the heavy door open with all her might, she hurried up the flight of stairs until it took her to the only metal door. Slamming it open, she stepped onto the open deck, to the raging wind. She heard the siren of the ship blurred loudly, she had exited through the side door of the deck. Making her way to the railing where she could get a wide view of the place, she shields her eyes glancing from the front of the ship to the back, her hand dropped when she saw a familiar figure. With the familiar height and shape, she was sure that it was Maven.

"MAVEN!" She shouted.

But it seems her friend couldn't hear her at all. She could only make her way towards Maven slowly against the wind that was pushing them back. She couldn't understand why her friend was still making her way to the back of the deck when there was nothing there, she glances in the direction Maven was heading, finally spotting two hidden figures at the edge of the railing. She watched as the figure turned around to Maven's call. She saw a hint of blue among the gray and darkness as she made her way over. Great, she had found both Yukanie and - her eyes widened as she saw the taller of the figure behind Yukanie making a quick movement.

"WATCH OUT!" She shouted lunging for Yukanie as did Maven. Not being closer to the sense she watched as Maven caught Yukanie's hand, but her few seconds of relief went down the drain when she saw Maven losing her balance. She quickly reached out for Maven's other free hand as the two went sailing over the railing. The sudden add of weight pulled her to the edge and slammed her stomach against the railing, acting at the anchor.

"Scarlet..."

She heard Maven said breathlessly. She gritted her teeth as she held onto Maven with all her strength, while she gripped the railing as tightly as she could with the other hand. She knew that with her current strength she wasn't able to pull them up over the railing, and there was no footing for them to get a hold of themselves either. With the rain splashing down on them, she felt her grip on Maven slipping with every minute.

"HOLD ON TIGHT! DON'T YOU DARE LET GO." She shouted as she tried her hardest to pull them back.

"Call for help!" Yukanie's cries could be barely heard from this distance.

"I CAN'T! THERE'S NO ONE WITHIN DISTANCE! JUST DON'T LET GO!" She shouted, digging her nails into her hand, praying to god to give her the strength for that moment to be able to save her friend.

"Scarlet! You're hand!" Maven cried, watching as the blood dripping from her hand-mixed with the rainwater before splashing down on the deck floor.

Ignoring what Maven was saying she tugged on her arm but it would not move, she could only feel Maven slip further down. When she heard a sudden snapping sound, her blood went cold. She felt her body lean forward for a split second before it stopped. Glancing at the railing she was holding onto, she saw a clean-cut against it, she watched in horror as the railing finally gave way to the pressure. She fell forward towards the roaring sea that swallowed them whole.

She heard the loud splash as all three of them fell into the cold seawater. She tried to surface after a mouthful of seawater, but fighting the tide was only wasting her strength, strength that she did not have after holding out so long. She felt so tired, unable to breathe as the darkness swallowed her.
