Nancy found Luke’s bike in the alley right where Luke said it would be. Luckily, nobody had taken it, surely a prized catch for some pirate passerby. The next two days flew faster than a 747. Luke kept to himself at school, something he was relatively good at. He had seen Jill in the hallway a couple of times but she never looked up and only a smile was exchanged during chemistry class.
Luke chose Wednesday night as the date of execution, feeling that he couldn’t risk waiting until the weekend. His mother always left the house at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday’s which held a slight risk but one Luke was willing to take. Nancy used to peek in on her boys before she left in the mornings but not in two years; and not with the trial starting so soon.
