4:Finally Home 2

Avery

It was about nine o'clock in the evening when we parked our car in the garage of the house. I got out of the car and carried all my belongings.

We were greeted by Nancy who opened the door for us, she's the one in charge of the house and the food we eat.

"Good evening señorita!" She greeted me with a pleasant smile and took my things.

"Buenas Noches" I greeted her in Spanish before I took a step inside the house.

Immediately, I went up stairs and went straight inside my room. I took a deep breath as I closed the door and leaned against it.

I was about to walk inside the bathroom when something caught my attention. I walked towards my bookshelves and took out the red little envelope inserted between the books. "What's this?" I asked myself and opened it.

My mood quickly changed as I saw what was inside the envelope. It was an old photo of a familiar man. I took a deep breath as I felt the sudden strange weight on my chest, it hurt so much and it seemed like any time my heart would just burst.

I wiped the tears that had unknowingly escaped down my cheeks and put the picture back inside the envelope.

4 years ago, I couldn't even stand the pain. I thought that if I left the country everything would be okay but it wasn't that easy. For those 4 years of my life, I was haunted every night by what happened and when I gathered the courage and decided to finally come back home, maybe by being back I can finally recover from everything. But I found it even harder because I didn't even know where to start. Should I act like nothing happened 4 years ago? I thought. As if I had not run away from my friends.

"Mierda." I mumbled at the anxiety I felt.

I tried to calm myself before heading to the bathroom to take a quick shower. Not so long after, I came out from the toilet in my pajamas and combed my hair. I walked over and sat on the edge of my bed, smiling at the sight of a familiar picture frame next to my night lamp. I smiled when I saw the old picture of me and Azai, we were both smiling at the camera while we hugged each other, we were wearing the same clothes which made us look exactly the same. We were about 6 years old when we took this photo yet it still felt like it was just yesterday.

I stood up when there was a knock on the door.

"Hora de cenar." As Azai invited me to eat dinner, I quickly opened the door which caught him off guard.

"Ave, you scared me." He complained and I just chuckled.

"Sorry." I apologized to him and we went down to the dining area together.

We caught up with mommy and daddy who already sat at the dining table with Alessia and Amory.

"It's really good to see you together again." Mommy commented and I just smiled at her.

"Hola mijo y mija." Azai and I just smiled at Daddy and walked towards them.

"Buenas noches nuestra princesita, how was your first day?" My older brother Amory, greeted me while he was using the phone.

"It was good." I answered shortly and sat down.

"Buenas Noches everyone." Azai greeted before he sat down next to me.

"Buenas Noches mijo." Mommy greeted him while she helped Nancy set the table.

"How was your first day mija?" Daddy asked me while reading some papers that I think had something to do with his work.

"Good." I said, smiling before looking straight at the person in front of me.

She's busy again? I thought. I rolled my eyes at my older sister Alessia, who seemed to be too busy on her tablet. She's the oldest and a bit rude most of the time.

"Okay everyone, it's time to eat!" Mommy caught everyone's attention and laid in front of me a plate full of shrimp.

Ewww. My frown deepened when I smelled it. Azai saw my reaction and glanced at the plate. He sighed as he took it and put it on his side.

"Mommy forgot about your allergies again, huh." He whispered to me before he started eating.

"Oh mija, I'm so sorry. I forgot you were allergic! I'm really sorry sweetie." Mommy seemed to have noticed what Azai did so she quickly apologized and kissed me on the head before replacing my food with another.

"It's okay mom." I just smiled at her and focused my attention on my food.

It had been four years since the last time I ate with them in this house. Maybe they were not used to my presence yet. I also kinda miss my grandparents, maybe I should call them later.

We started eating and daddy began to ask Alessia about her work. While they had a conversation about their works, mommy tried to start a conversation with Amory's Bar who seemed to have a stable place in the industry.

"Here." My eyes went to my plate as Azai put some vegetable salad on it. I thanked him and he just smiled as he continued to put food on my plate.

"Don't mind them, they're always like this since you left. Soon enough you'll get used to it." He told me softly and I just nodded. I started to feel bad at the thought that he also had a hard time from the past years.

"It just feels different to be back." I whispered to him as I ate my salad.

"I wanted to say welcome back but it didn't sound good so I figured that maybe it's better to say Welcome home. Right?" I smiled at what he said and I just nodded. I'm really lucky to have Azai as my twin, he was always there for me and he always made me feel home.

"Welcome Home Ava!" He said it once again.

"Thanks Azi!" I replied to him and we continued to eat.

It was past 10:42 pm when I decided to get inside my room, while my parents and my siblings were still in the kitchen talking about some stuff. I closed my door and went inside my toilet to brush my teeth before lying down on my bed. I took the novel book on my bedside table and opened it, I read the book and a few minutes later I fell to sleep.
