After that day, the rest of the week went by pretty normal except for some minor gossip. Thankfully, Nic cleared the dating rumor by going on a date with some girl and thereafter new rumors about them started circulating. Today I was in a good mood because it was finally Friday and I was looking forward spending the weekend at home, cozy up binge watching my favorite shows. Happily thinking about the weekend, I walked over to my seat next to the school Ice Queen, Rebecca Harrison. Since Monday, I've sat next to her because my glasses were still broken and I couldn't see from far away. I felt someone burn their gaze behind, without turning around, I knew it belonged to Chelsea Carvell, the girl who switched seats with me. She was close with Rebecca, following her around like a loyal dog. The teacher took attendance and without wasting a moment began with the math lesson. So, I began to diligently take clear notes, scribbling every single word Mr. Whatshisname said.
"Let's move on to Derivative function, try problem #7 amongst yourself first."
He wrote the problem on the board and I think I could speak to aliens better than learning what the fuck he wrote. I glanced at Rebecca's notes and she was already done with it. I attempted the problem not understanding crap what Mr. Won taught. I was angry at myself for skipping class during my old life and even at Mr. Won's horrible teaching. After some failed attempts to do the problem, I decided to give up and wait for Mr. Won to go over it. To past time, I started doodling Mr. Won- drawing razor sharp teeth and ogre hands, and added a speech bubble that read "Im Mr. pain in your ass & your pain has just begun HAHAHA!"
"Ms. Lee I see you're done with the problem. Can you tell the class the steps you used to solve it and your answer?" Mr. Won creeped from behind and saw my drawing of him. He picked on me on purpose.
"Umm ... I think I got the wrong answer. I rather let someone else participate" I reply in a low tone but loud enough for him to hear it.
"We learn from our mistakes, so please explain to the class how you got your answer" he said in a wicked tone.
The entire class turned to face, waiting on me. I chewed on my lower lip, and rose to my feet using the book to cover my crimson red face. My hands and armpits started to sweat, I have a fear of public speaking since I was a young girl. This was revenge for the doodling because he knew I didn't even start the damn question.
"Forsst, I mean FIRST, I changed "y" variable into the triangle thingy...no, I-" Clearing my throat, I rambled crap that made no sense. Sigh, I'll just confess that I didn't do the question. Putting the book down, I opened my mouth to apologize when a man's voice interrupted me.
"Mr. Won, please allow me to explain the question" My savior was no other than the jerk, Rye. I turned my face to him, stunned that he would step in to help me.
"Very well Mr. Hemsworth. I appreciate your enthusiasm, please explain to the class. Listen properly Ms. Lee."
He stood up facing the class, taking my chance to sit quietly. Since our desks were next to each other, my sight fell on his lower body while he was standing up. I diverted my glaze away from his private area, angling my head up focusing on his face instead. Rye explained the problem and surprisingly, I was understanding the lesson better than the teacher's teaching.
" we see that x changes ...and that's how I got my answer" He concluded looking at me with a cocky expression.
That prick was rubbing it on my face that he could solve basic calculus. If I was my old self, it wouldn't bother me that Rye was smarter than me, but I'm Jaye Lee now, one of the smartest girls in school, so his gloating definitely struck a nerve.
"Well done Mr. Hemsworth. Please be reminded that we will be having a quiz next week, so class be prepared." Now I was sweating bullets at the mention of a quiz. I was so screwed, I needed help.
Before heading to lunch, I went straight to the tutoring office in search of a math tutor and was informed that currently no tutor was available.
"I wouldn't expect for someone like you to ever need a tutor. I guess even great minds don't have the answer to everything" the receptionist said with her eyes fixated on the computer screen.
"why so?"
"Huh?"
"Why wouldn't you expect to see 'someone like me' in need of help?" I was getting more annoyed by the minute but I desperately needed a tutor. Although I knew the answer, I still had to hear it.
"Well you do have a scholarship in math and science and your GPA is almost 4.0" I could tell my questioning made her nervous by the way she readjusted her glasses. Right, I forgot Jaye's straight A+ record.
"Oh. Looks like I was able to find an available tutor for next week" exclaimed the receptionist. I tiptoed against the small barrier between her desk, eyeing the computer from the distance.
"Great. Put me down for whatever time and date!" I said with a wide grin.
Feeling somewhat accomplished, I decided to treat myself to some lunch and dessert because I deserved it. I arrived at the cafeteria, skimming for Camila and found her seating with a redhead boy I haven't met before. I decided to grab some food before joining with them, and soon regretted it.
"Hello Jayelina. Rough morning you had during math class. I cringed so hard at you attempting to solve that simple question. I couldn't watch you further until Rye saved your ass" Carlotta and her crew followed from behind.
I couldn't stand her fake tone but I was too famished to respond instead, giving them a polite smile.
"I have to go, Cam is waiting for me. Catch y'all la-" Carlotta cut me mid sentence. Lord, I am begging you, please just let me eat in peace once!
"Ever since the seat switched, that bitch Chelsea can't find an excuse to talk to Rye anymore. I Should thank you for that..." I could tell Carlotta wasn't done blabbing by the way she stood with one hand on her hip.
"And oh my gosh, you saw Rebecca making a move on him. The other day, I saw them sitting next to each other all friendly. Rebecca has all the boys in school chasing after her and now, she's flirting with Rye. What a slut, don't you think so Jaye?"
Carlotta's mouth was a loose cannon ready to spit venom. My blood was boiling at her accusation of the fact that I hate gossiping and talking behind someone's back. I stopped midway to the table ready to tell them off.
"I don't know either of them to be saying those things. Plus, wasn't Rye who talked to Rebecca FIRST?" I said sending them daggers glare.
In this school, I was the geeky, poor, unpopular girl, who was supposed not question the higher status people like Carlotta Gomez. I began to prepare myself for any action my questing brought, even if it meant fighting these three. It's a fact that I'm outnumbered and not to mention the height difference between them and my tiny self.
"Oh. That's right. Well, keep me posted if you hear or see anything happening with them." Carlotta let out a nervous chuckle and walked away with her minions following behind. I guess my tough face worked on those snakes. They were such cowards, I couldn't help laugh my way to Camila.
"Hey finally you made it. What were you talking about with Carlotta?" This was a typical nosy Camila questioning.
"I don't know. They wanted insight on Rye's love life like I freaking know the dude? I feel like a celebrity just because I sit beside him. Dooz gurls are trubble, besth to sstay ahway." I mumbled my mouth full of food.
"You're right. That trio always spreads lies and rumors around school."Camila agreed nodding while playing with her hair.
" Ah, Jaye I don't think you've met my cousin Denise. She's new to school, transferred here about 2 weeks ago." Pointing to the redhead next to her.
Denise had a very short haircut, buzzed on the sides. She had an athletic physique, the complete opposite from Camila girly self. She even sported the boys uniform instead of the classic skirt. Denise extended her right hand, giving me a solid handshake. She caught me off guard, I think this is the first time someone has treated me with respect in this school.
"Hello Jaye. Just call me Dee." She rolled her eyes at Camila for introducing her as Denise which clearly made her uncomfortable.
"Cool. Suits you better." I winked at her. I would be blind if I denied that Dee wasn't good looking. Dee smiled at me. Scratch that. Even a blind person would agree that Dee was attractive.
"You're so annoying Dee. Please don't tell me you guys are gonna hook up. Not on my watch!" Camila became serious unlike her easy going self.
"we'll see about that dear cousin. Remember spaghetti is straight until it's wet. I have to go, catch y'all later." I burst out in laughter upon seeing Camila's wrinkle face as we watched Dee walking away.
"Anyways, why'd you arrive late for lunch?" and the old nosy Camila is back.
I told her my math struggles and how I got myself a tutor. I left out the embarrassing part about the teacher picking on me on purpose.
"Hmm that's why I heard that you couldn't answer a math question and Rye stepped in to help you." I frowned upon hearing his name, taking a bite of my ice scream to subdue my anger shivering from cold chills sent to my teeth.
"How did you find out - ugh never mind" I keep forgetting Camila is the news reporter in school.
"Quite honestly I didn't believe it because you're excellent in math and science"
"Wow things sure travel fast. Geez, I lost my memories, maybe with it went away my math knowledge." I said annoyed that yet again I was the talk of the school.
"Don't overwork yourself. I know how stubborn you get once you set your mind. Finish your ice scream quick we have to head to P.E. now" Like a hungry dog, I downed the rest of the ice scream.
