HAILEY'S POV
I'm not qualified for this job. I'm only here because my father paved the way for me. I'm just the daughter of the CEO'S wife, best friend, the lonely orphan girl.
I'm exhausted! It's tiring pretending to be happy all the time. I don't have any right to be here, in this place where I don't belong. Being Adian Knights secret wife, opens no door for me. Like a mantra I keep chanting, I DON'T BELONG HERE! I DON'T BELONG HERE!
Turning, looking down, I started walking out of the building, bumping into a someone who grab and helped steady me from falling.
Looking up I met the smiling eyes of a blonde, green eye man, probably in his late twenties, clean shaven, with a twinkle in his eyes.
Suddenly frowning, "are you okay? why are you crying? did you hurt yourself" he asked with concern evident in his face as he saw my unshed tears.
Nodding, embarrass, " yeah I'm good. I'm sorry I wasn't paying attention to where I was walking " I apologize shyly.
"You're okay?" he asks again.
Nodding again, slightly wriggling myself out of the palm of his hands.
Realizing I wanted him to let me go, he let me go.
"Are you leaving already?" he asks with concern.
"Yes, I'm done, so I'm going to leave now!" I said walking away, on cue my phone started ringing.
"Hello?" I answered with a question.
"Hailey, Jerry here. Where are you? we're waiting on you!" Jerry exclaims.
Paralyzed, I have no idea what to say to him.
"I'm waiting in the conference room." he continues.
" Uncle Jerry, I don't think I'm qualified for any position within this company " I tell him, sadly.
"Hailey just come to my office, or do you want me to come downstairs to meet you?" he says kindly,
"Uncle Jerry, I don't belong here. please let me leave" I plead quietly.
"Hailey you have more rights here than I" he admits. "Did Adian say something to you?" he questions, suspiciously. "I'm coming downstairs." he said.
Nervous and intimidated , "no wait, Adian didn't say anything, I'll come up" I said giving up.
The blond guy whose still standing beside me, head jerks up at the mention of Adian's mame.
"Okay, let the receptionist give you directions. See you in five minutes." uncle Jerry instructed me.
With a small sad smile I looked at the guy still standing before me. Pointing behind me, "I have to go to meet Mr. Jerry.. uhem.." did he say his last name. "uh em, he said he's in the conference room" I said.
"I'm heading to a meeting with the board right now" he looks at the time on his wrist watch. " Would you like me to show you the way? he offers politely.
"Thank you" I nodded, as he indicated that I should follow him.
As we entered the elevator with a few other people joining us. Everyone exchange mornings to each other, as I stood silently with my head bowed.
"I'm Clyde Steel" my new friend from in the lobby leaned and whispered in my ear.
I looked up at his almost five ten height compare to me. As our eyes met, I caught his intense stare. Awkwardly I quickly looked back down at the floor. I am uncomfortable in situations like this. I must not encourage him because I am married and I cannot involve myself with a scandal embarrassing the Knights.
"I'm Hailey" I introduced myself to him as I look up to him meet his his sparkling greens, quickly averted my eyes
Chuckling softly, "that was a long discussion you had going on, there" he says softly.
Confused, I looked at him. He points to his head.
Definitely getting red with embarrassment, because of my knack for over thinking, I smiled weakly.
The doors opened and he indicated that I should step out with the others who were walking out.
He led me to the room where uncle Jerry was waiting for me.
As I stepped into the vast room, with a long table seating approximately twenty persons. Uncle Jerry sat at one end with Mr. Knights sitting at the head of the table both sporting broad happy smiles.
Smiling at the both of them, realizing that both their smiles disappeared instantly as their eyes moved past me. Turning to look behind me to see Clyde. "Morning bosses!" Clyde greeted Mr. Knights and uncle Jerry happily.
"Morning" Mr. Knights, responded.
" What the f**k are you doing with her " uncle Jerry asked, clearly upset.
Embarrass I turn to a confused looking Clyde, "uh, the thing is that I was walking back out when I bumped into this gentleman, then you called and he offered to show me the way" I explained.
Mr. Knights waved it away but uncle Jerry looked suspicious.
"Why are you here again?" he again addresses Clyde.
"Leave it," Mr. Knights said to uncle Jerry. " Have a seat Hailey " he says to me. indicating the chair in front of him.
"Thank you", I turned and muttered to Clyde_ before taking a seat in front of uncle Jerry.
" You heading out" Mr. Knighs, addresses Clyde.
" I have a meeting with Adian " Clyde explains his reason for being here.
Grinning, "he's at Knights Foundation" uncle Jerry told him.
With a knowing smile, "hmm, I'm on my way, good luck Hailey" he said as he starts walking out.
"She already has the job" uncle Jerry says "and stay away" he warns Clyde.
Smiling, he walk out.
Adian ran away, I wanted to laugh, but I shouldn't. I couldn't believe that he hates me this much. I don't want to be here either, but I honored my mother with the marriage so I'll honor my father with the job.
"So Hailey" Mr. Knights started. "How are you?" he asked smiling with concern. If he only knew his son is the least of my worries.
"I'm great," I lied.
"So the job" uncle Jerry says,
