Chapter Thirty Two - Missing Hailey

Adian's POV

I went to bed immediately after picking Chubbs up at school.

I didn't see, nor speak to Hailey when I returned last night, but Basil assured me that she was fine when I called earlier.

Chubbs was already having breakfast when I entered the kitchen. I looked around greeting the maid my mother insisted that I needed. Not one to be responsible for anyone's job loss, I kept Ms. Carmen on.

A Hispanic woman in her sixties, with two grandchildren that she is solely responsible for. She comes in early and leaves early to pick them up after school. I hired a driver for her and the kids and in return, she's help me make good use of the kitchen.

She said that I'll make the right woman a good husband one day.

Smiling at that thought. I thought my ex-fiance was that woman but I was wrong. So f***ing wrong!

Anger rises as my thoughts went from happy to hostile.

I can't afford to allow myself to fall in Hailey's trap. I feel myself weakening in her presence. Her scent is intoxicating and pushing her away is my way of defence.

Yesterday in Chubbs bedroom wrapped in a piece of towel with her hair dripping wet from her neck unto her smooth shoulders flowing down inside her towel. Her legs, f**k her legs.

F**k me! I did the only thing I could. Insult her so she would run. And run she did!

"Hey Basil" I heard Chubbs say. Looking up to see him go up to Ms. Carmen.

"How's the sexist Hispanic woman who rejected my love" he asks, bringing out a small blush in her face, while Chubbs giggles like the school girl that she is.

"When you're done flirting with Ms Carmen, we can talk business" I said watching him fill his coffee cup. Leaning against the kitchen counter, "I'm done, for now" he said bringing out a wider smile from Carmen.

Looking at her watch, "okay, I'm ready" Chubbs announced, stretching out one hand to me and another to Carmen.

Carmen put food in one hand while I put cash in the other.

"Thank you guys" she said happily. "Now whose dropping me to school?" she asks looking between Bas and I.

Looking towards the door again, sighing, "I will," I said standing up, "he's" pointing at Bas, "is on Hailey duty" I explained, picking out a key from the rack on the wall, then turning for my phone on the counter, to find two pair of eyes looking at me, then to each other before coming back to me.

"Did I miss something?" I ask them

Picking up her school bag of the floor, throwing it to hang on her shoulder, " nuh uh" Chubbs responded walking to the garage door from the kitchen.

"Bye Carmen, see you tomorrow" she said, then waves at Bas over her shoulder.

"What?" I mouthed to him,

Shaking his head, he just shrugs his shoulders, turning to Carmen, "it looks like its just you and me sweetheart" he starts flirting again.

Looking to the doorway one more time, I turned on my heel and walk out feeling empty.

It's almost lunch and my stressful day continues. My f**king PA isn't helping a bit. Letting me know how unhappy he is here at Knights Foundation, every chance he gets.

Basil knocks and enters my office wearing a grim look.

"What now?" I asked.

Sitting down in front of me, "I found the police report on Melanie Sullivans death." he said, "now I'm waiting for copies of the report.'

Leaning back, placing my elbow on a armrest of my chair, allowing my fingers to play with the overnight beard on my chin.

He did say Melanie Sullivan's death, now I'm afraid to ask about David Sullivan, my father-in-law.

" And David Sullivan?" I asked.

Shaking his head, "no death registered, but a police report? Didn't they both die in a boating accident?" he asked, leaving me to believe yet again, that David Sullivan is alive.

"When we get the report, we can move on from there" I suggested.

Basil got a text, standing up while reading it with a wide goofy smile.

"Who's the lucky lady this time" I ask as usual

"Your gorgeous wife of course" he said walking away.

"What?" I asked standing up immediately.

Grinning at me, "yeah, we got some shopping to continue" he said vaguely.

I walk in front of my desk, leaning on it with my arms folded raising my eyebrows at him.

"Yeah! Apparently she needs some personal effects for her office so she ask me to go with her. Yesterday we did the supermarket so today it's.. uh.. I have no idea yet" he finishes with the same smile.

I pulled out my wallet and took out a card holding it out to him. "Give this to her. I got it yesterday"

He looked at the card then at me thinking it through while I stood like an ass waiting for him to make a decision.

Shaking his head, "no that's for you to do or your secretary" he said seriously. "I'm just the bodyguard, which by the way she knows nothing about. She just thinks I'm being nice to her." he explains.

With the same mischievous smirk, "I picked out your own coffee mug and your personal brand of whiskey for her kitchen" he enlightens me.

Narrowing my eyes at him, "and she bought it? Willingly? " I asked surprise.

Thinking again, "well she knows the mug is yours but not the whiskey" I said.

Looking at him trying to figure out what he's up too. "Okay, I'll give her the card when I see her" I decided, taking my wallet out again.

"And when would that be?" he asks, trying to read me as usual.

Okay something is up. What the f**k did she say to me best friend about me?

"We live in the same house"
