Hailey's POV
"With a grin Basil stood up, "I hope it was that irritating woman from yesterday" he said.
Nodding, I walked around to my desk, ",yep, that one" I told him pulling the lunch bag closer, checking to see which one's Basil.
Finding it, I stretched it out to him, "have you had lunch yet?" I asked before letting it go.
Shaking his head, indicating no, "Yes he did and yours is in the kitchen" Jerry said coming over to my desk.
"What you got him for lunch?" Jerry leans over to desk to check.
"Burgers," I sad happily handing the bag to them. "Share" I instructed.
Taking the burgers out, they took one each and started eating as if they didn't have lunch.
"This is too good", Jerry said, " where did you buy it?" hr asks, taking another bite.
"At Beef Grillers" I said .
Raising his head shocked. "you took a client to a burger joint?" he glared at me.
'No!" I told him.
"Beef grillers is a burger joint a cafe" he describes the place.
Raising his eyes at Adian, "you've been there?" Basil asks with a mouthful.
Ignoring him, Adian turned on me again, "it's a f**king burger joint! The company would have given the funds for you to treat a client to a proper lunch" he said, putting his head in his hands again.
Frowning, I looked across at him, "burgers is a proper lunch" I defended.
Chuckling, "it's definitely great, maybe not a hundred percent healthy, but great" Jerry defends the burger also.
Shaking his head. Adian starts muttering incoherent words to himself.
"For what it's worth, Mr. Simon chose the place" I informed Adian's bent head.
Putting the burger wrappings together, "he chose well" Basil said grinning staring at Adian's head.
Looking across at Basil ,"is he okay?" I mounted.
"Migraine" he mouths back, walking closer to okay, "you okay, man?" Basil asks with genuine concern for his best friend.
"Hailey, you only have two hours left today, why don't you take Adian home and Basil can bring Adana when she's done?" Jerry suggested.
"No, no" I mouthed. shaking my head, in refusal.
"Okay, that's settled." Jerry said, as he and Basil exchanges a knowing smile.
I glared at them, as i called, picking up the glasses and the remaining whiskey. In the kitchen I poured another shot for myself to strengthen my nerves, if I have to be in Adian Knights presence for a short while.
"Leave the mess, I'll clean up" Jerry says trying to take the glass from my hand. Pulling my hand with the glass away.
"I need to numb myself so that I be in the same place with him." I said pointing towards the office. where Adian and Basil were waiting for me.
"Go ahead, I clean up Jerry insisted" trying once again to remove me from the kitchen.
I glared at him, "I doubt you'll be able to clean up to my satisfaction." I tell him, starting to wash the glasses and empty their food containers, neatening my kitchen.
Backing away with raised hands, "okay, okay, I gone. See you when you're done" he says walking away.
When I'm satisfied that the kitchen is clean enough for me, I took the lunch they bought for me to join them in the office.
My office is not party central, but I will let them know tomorrow and they will have to get back more of my whiskey.
Picking up my handbag, I notice that Adian is still holding his head in his hand, grimacing in pain. Nobody told me what was his problem but they expected me to go home with him?
"I'm ready it announce to who ever chose to hear. They were engross in Adian and what was going on with him that they didn't hear me.
I walked closer to Basil letting him know that I was ready.
" Hailey's ready mate, let's get you home mate." Basil tells Adian.
Nodding, Adian stands up, starting to walk towards the doorway, looking back at me.
Jerry indicated that I should go with them, "your office's clean, go, I'll lock up and I'm taking Simon's file with me" Jerry said, shooing me out.
In the car Adian sat in the back seat, while I sat up front with Basil, observing Basil as he keep looking at Adian in the rearview mirror.
He is a true friend indeed and it shows with the way he is around Adian.
Jolting up, "drive by Chubbs school, let's pick her up one time" Adian instructs Basil, laying back in the car seat.
Basil nods, even though I'm sure that Adian didn't see, but he trusts his best friend to do what he asks.
Basil took another route so I assume it's the direction to Adana's school.
Basil left the ignition on with the air condition on, to meet Chubbs at the security booth where he told her to wait for him.
"We need to talk tomorrow when I'm good" Adian says behind my head",
"Okay" was all I could mutter because I'm so confused.
