Hailey's POV
Hailey slid into the car and I went in to join her in the back while they still unpacked groceries.
"What are you planning to make for dinner? It's like you're cooking for... ?" Adian trails off
Uncomfortable, I leaned back in the car. "I'm making refreshments for the kids at the home on Sunday" I told him, plus Adana and I will be attending the opening of basketball season on Sunday afternoon.
"You and Adana" Adian repeats thoughtfully, staring ahead of him.
Not feeling guilt whatsoever, "yep, Adana and I" I agreed, chuckling. "It's what I live for" I continued excitedly.
Turing to look at me, a small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. "you're really into basketball, huh?" Adian chuckles softly, as we stared into each other's eyes.
A knock on the open door, alerted us to where we were.
Smiling, Adian gets out of the back seat, holding the door open for Adana. before joing Basil in the front.
"Did we interrupt a moment between you guys back there" Basil had the nerve to ask.
Blushing, "your best friend was trying to see if he could seduce the season tickets for tomorrow nights game out of me" I said, chuckling as Adana slaps Adian on the back of his shoulders.
"Hey" she says.
"Stop that" Adian winces, stroking his shoulder where Adana slapped him.
"Man, so what now?" Basil turns angrily towards Adian.
"What?" Adian ask him, genuinely confused.
Leaning back wondering what I started with my attempt at making a joke.
"What?" Basil repeats annoyed. "Are we just suppose to drop the girls off and simply return to pick them up, while they have all the fun?" he said still annoyed.
"That's the plan" I blurted out, clamping my hand over my mouth.
Adian turned to glare at me ad did Basil, when I met his gaze in the rearview mirror.
"That's the plan" Adana mimics me laughing loudly at the guys. I couldn't help but join her happy mood, while the guys ignored us for the balance of the ride.
The ringing of Adian's phone broke the silence in the car.
"Yeah" he abruptly answers the caller
Adian listens for a minute before responding.
"Give me about an hour. I'll drop the girls off at home first" he says to the caller.
Home! The words I wanted to hear for so long. Home, a place of belonging. Adian's home. my safe haven, I smiled happily.
"They went grocery shopping so there's perishable food items, they would need to pack away.' Adian explains, with a bored expression.
" Right" he finishes, hanging up.
He didn't volunteer any information concerning his conversation, because the caller clearly knows me.
Basil parked in the upper level carpark, as he and Adian assist with unpacking the trunk, putting all our bags on the floor of the elevator for us to take out when we got to the penthouse.
Huffing, clearly annoyed, "are you people for real!" she asks with her hands on her hips, while I tried to prop the bags that was leaning.
With an impatient look, "deal, season tickets for muscles" Basil challenged her as I chuckle softly.
Turning away from him, "now that I think about it. Hailey and I don't need muscles, we've got it on" she tells thin, joining me in the lift, pressing the button to Adian's apartment.
As the door closes, I see the smiling faces for the guys, with Adian shaking just head at her.
As we made our way up, I wondered why Adian didn't say where he was going. He seemed bored with the conversation.
As the door opened Adana and I started putting bags out the lift. We see Mrs Harris coming out to help us.
Between the three of us we were able to carry everything inside the kitchen.
"You want me to help unpack, or you can handle it?" she offers.
"Hailey?" Adana calls as I was busy searching for my bubbly.
"Darn" I couldn't help but swear as I remember leaving it in the backseat of Adian's car.
Helping me search. 'did we leave it at checkout? "Adana wonders.
Smiling, wearily, " it's in the backseat of Adian's car' I informed her so she'll stop looking.
"Oh, okay" she says satisfied
Mrs Harris came back into the kitchen, "I prepared dinner for you all and baked bread and bake for the weekend" told us showing us where everything was stored.
She cooked dinner so my dinner date with Adian has been pushed back.
"Mrs Harris" I called her nervously, "are you busy tomorrow?" I ask timidly
Looking at the grocery bags on the counter, "you need help preparing a feast?" she smiles.
"Actually I'm preparing lunch this Sunday for the children's home, the workers and supporters." I tell her, watching her hopefully.
Nodding, "I can come back tomorrow and help prep and Sunday early we'll cook." she suggests
Clasping my hands, 'thank you so much" I said gratefully. "I'll compensate you," u said reaching for my handbag.
Putting out a hand, she stops me, "no Ms. Hailey, I don't want any money, I'm doing it for the kids. Considered it my contribution" she said kindly.
Looking around the kitchen, "at least let me pay for all of this" I indicated the dinner and everything she already prepared.
"Ms. Hailey, Mr Adian already pays me well. Please let me use this as a chance to give back" she asks, reaching out and taking my hands in hers.
Happy to have someone else on board to help the kids.
"Would you like to go with me afterwards, to meet the kids and workers" I invited her.
Smiling happily, "yes, I would. Thank you so much" Mrs Harris says as the doorbell rang.
"That must be the driver, Adian hired to take me home" Mrs Harris said, picking up her coat and handbag from a closet in the kitchen that I didn't know existed.
"Wait for some dinner"
