Chuckling at Adian's comments about our marriage "you'd do well to remember that, I bought a new gun" he laughs and the other members joined in the fun
"RIGHT SO WHERE WAS I?" uncle Allan continues, his eyes still on Adian and mine entwined hands.
NOW THAT DAVID SULLIVAN'S DAUGHTER IS OVER TWENTY ONE, I AM OBLIGATED BY LAW TO HAND HER FATHER'S SHARES." Someone lower down the table clears her throat and uncle Allan stops and looks at the woman and nods before turning to look at me and preceded to read the paper in his hands.
"I'M SORRY, I THNK MY GLASSES NEED ADJUSTING" he chuckles nervously.
"Wait a minute, how is she a member of this board?' Adian's ex finally speaks out.
Uncle Allan looks at her from beneath his glasses and turns to Ryan, "carry on" Ryan instructed him. I see my husband's eyes on me with a mischievous smirk, while massaging my thighs.
Uncle Allan resumes his speech.
"RIGHT SO AS I WAS SAYING, I AM OBLIGATED TO NOW RELEASE HER LATE FATHER'S SHARE OF KNIGHTS FOUNDATION TO HER, AT THIS TIME, WHEN HER HUSBAND IS ABOUT TO BECOME CEO OF KNIGHTS FOUNDATION. NEW YORK CITY'S NEWEST POWER COUPLE" Uncle Allan says to boards excitement . "I WILL ALSO ADD, THAT AS MOST OF THE OLDER HEADS KNOW, THIS IS NEWS TO HIS DAUGHTER, HAILEY SULLIVAN KNIGHTS."
I leaned over to Adian, "can't I allow him to stay on and learn from him?" I ask and Adian nods.
"Yes, but you need to be at all meetings to make sure that he is not making decisions that you do not support." he whispers softly.
"Hailey" I look up to see Uncle Allan smiling at me, "you ready?' he asks.
I stand awkwardly, smoothing my dress, conscious of the fact that I have no underwear, "Thank you. Thank you, uncle Allan, Uh," I turn to my father-in-law, "Adian and I would like to make a suggestion," I said timidly.
Nodding, "sure go ahead." Ryan encourages me.
"LADIES, GENTLEMAN" I looked around the table, as I was taught to do, stopping when my eyes met, Adian's ex, sitting here, giving me an intimidating smug look, that should have had me cowering but, I turned to Adian who also encourages me with a smile and of course his hands on my leg.
'THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING MY UNCLE, WHILE MY FATHER HAS BEEN..." I trailed off, refusing to use the term, late father. "WHILE I HAVE BEEN GROWING UP." I said instead, smiling at Adian, "MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE AGREED THAT UNCLE ALLAN CAN REMAIN ON THE BOARD AND I WILL BE A SILENT MEMBER. UNCLE ALLAN WOULD LAZE WITH ME BEFORE EVERY DECISION THAT HE MAKES. I WILL USE THIS TIME AS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE AND ALSO KEEP MY UNCLE IN A POSITION THAT HE OBVIOUSLY ENJOYS.' I ended, hitting Adian's roaming paws away from me as uncle Allan comes to hug me once again.
Holding me in a warm embrace, "are you sure?" uncle Allan asks and I nodded, feeling Adian standing beside me, hugging uncle Allan.
Adian's ex stood up, turning to the other members of the board "is it just me or has Knights Foundation become family oriented?" her eyes roaming between Adian, uncle Allan and Ryan.
Chuckling dryly, "the sign on the building does say, Knights Foundation." A woman lower down the table informed her.
Shaking her head, "I'm sorry, but I refuse to allow this" she says indicating where I stood, in the midst of Adian and Uncle Allan,
Mr. Kurt, the gentleman who was offended by the ex, stood up, buttoning his jacket, "I'm sorry miss, I don't think I've met you. Who are you representing at today's board meeting?" Mr. Kurt asked, impatiently, irritation marked all over his rugged features.
The ex, smiled sweetly and looked down at her notepad, turn to smile at Mr. Kurt again, "Mr. Kurt, that's your name, right?" she awaited his confirmation but when he didn't respond, her smile disappeared and just as quickly returned.
"I'm Kristin Thomas" she introduces herself. I sat down and uncle Allan returned to his seat. "I'm here today, representing my mother-in-law." she pauses, making sure her statement, made it's impact.
Mr. Knights leaned forward and Adian leaned back, with arms folded and a scowl on his face. His blue eyes, boring holes into his ex.
There were some mumerings among the board members and I couldn't help myself, I had to look in her. I felt myself being pulled with invisible threads. Her smug confident smile, threw me off for a second, then I remembered, AMEILA KNIGHTS IS A F***ING MURDERER AND I WILL BRING HER DOWN AND EVERYONE WITH HER. My nervousness turned into confidence. I will not be screwed over by her or her puppets.
I leaned back, placing my hand on my husband's thigh and crossing the other one.
"I'm sorry!" the woman said, "What is going on here?" she asks Mr. Knights.
"Your mother in-law, you said?" she asked, looking around the table for the absentees, before settling on Adian and I with a confused expression.
Leaning back on his chair, "I'm at a loss for words myself, I have not idea." Mr. Knights stares a Adian confused.
"Why don't we call the vote for the new CEO, then put the puzzle on the table together." I suggested to Mr. Knights, while scribbling down a note to Adian.
Adian reads the note and smiles, nodding to his father to carry on. I looked over at the ex, who seemed distracted by my suggestion.
Adian pushes the note pad towards his father, who smiles before addressing the board members.
"Ladies," Ryan pauses, "gentleman," he pauses, raising his head, "I am here to nominate my son Adian Knights to be my successor and the next CEO of Knights Foundation." he finishes to a hearty round of applause.
The ex stands up, "I object to this nomination"
