Chapter One Hundred and Twenty - Get Together

Adian sent breakfast for the kids and workers at the home. Together with Basil and Caleb, they ensured that everyone was overfilled.

I keep glancing across to where Adian stood chatting with sister Ally and Mr. Peters.

The conversation seemed intense and I looked on as Adian with folded arms stood nodding at what they are saying to him.

"You need to stop staring" Mel commented as she came sits beside me, distracting me from observing Adian's present group!

Chuckling nervously, "maybe, I'm nosy" I smiled as Caleb, pulled a chair to join us!

Laughing loudly, "then you and I will work great together" he says and when I frowned, he smiles, "you'll get the memo soon" he says.

Confused Mel and I exchange looks, "both of you!" he chuckles, then sucks in his lips, looking away as if he already said to much!

Reaching out Mel suddenly grabs hold of his arm and pinches him, "spill" she demanded, holding on to a piece of his flesh and I giggle at his, opened eyed, opened mouth expression, surprise at Mel's boldness.

Like Mel, I believe it sounds as if it concerns a change of jobs? I also wait to see if Mel's bullying will work!

looking over his shoulder to where Adian was still standing, with just Mr. Peters this time, but still deep in conversation.

Returning his attention to us, I clasped my hands and leaned forward on the table, staring at him, as a scowl appears on his face.

Slapping Mel's hands away, he turns to her, "maybe the reason I joined you guys was to share, but now" he pause, glaring at Mel, "like everyone else, the both of you" he paused and turn to me, "will hear about it tomorrow." Huffing, he pushes his chair back and storms off, bringing attention to our table.

"F**k" Mel turns to me, "what do you think it is?" concern etched on her face. Smiling I shrugged it off.

"Whatever it is and if Adian is involved, then I know that it's fine." I responded, supporting whatever decision he makes.

Gerard pulls the chair Caleb just vacated, "may I?" He waits for our approval and I took more than a second to nod.

Chuckling, "yeah, sure." I responded as he sits down, smiling at Mel and I. "I'm sorry" I apologized quickly. "It's just that Caleb didn't ask permission and now you being the gentleman that you are, asked politely." I explained, mentally slapping myself, because an explanation was uncalled for.

Mel still curious about what Caleb just hinted at before leaving, laughs and turn to Gerard. "So you happy with the new arrangements, the boss has made with all of us?" Mel asks, staring at Gerard, anxiously awaiting his response.

Shrugging, Gerard dismisses Mel's question as if it was unimportant to him and I was actually interested to know what is going on now.

Frowning, I glance briefly at Mel before turning to Gerard, "the truth is, we have no ideal what is going on. Caleb just insinuated that there might be some changes and left us, stranded in the air." I exaggerated.

Understanding now that we were just trying to pick his brain, Gerard chuckles and turns to Caleb who was still glaring at us, "honestly, I have no idea what changes he's talking about, I know my duties and well it revolves around the both of you and Adian." Gerard explains, which does nothing ease our curiosity.

Leaning back on the chair, I shrug it off, but Mel is still uneasy and with questions of my own, I decided to get answers that has been bothering me since we came in here.

"Adana refused to come with you all?" I ask Mel, but my eyes drifted across to Adian, who was greeting his guests from the children's home.

Mel shares a brief look with Gerard, before answering me.

"Can I share something, freely?" Mel asks and I nod, nervously twiddling my thumbs that resting on the table. "She seems to have an ulterior motive for being in the penthouse." She says shaking her head and I already know that and by the sound of it, so does Adian and now Mel.

With my head still down, I just nod in agreement already trying to figure out where I can hide the files that's hidden in my office kitchen.

Still afraid to share the files with anyone, I just listen to what Mel had to say.

"I told Basil that I don't trust her and I ask him to move to his apartment" she was saying and I immediately reached out, grabbing her hand that was on the table and looked up at her.

"No please" I said a bit to loudly, bringing attention to our table once again, averting my eyes downwards. "No, don't leave me there alone with her" I pleaded softly and I felt my hand being squeeze tightly.

Laughing softly, "okay, we won't, at least not yet" Mel agreed and I breathe out a sigh of relief.

Gerard had been quiet during this exchange between Mel and I, "Hailey, I think you should talk to Adian and let him know what's going on." He says and once again looks around to see where Adian is, before continuing. "I will never betray him, but I also work for you and the thing that you should be aware of, is the guy you're married too now, is a different guy from who he was over three years ago. He will give his life for you and if there is anything that could put not only you but him and any danger, you should let him know." Gerard shares the most he's every shared with me before and it really makes sense but I am afraid of Adian's reaction when he finds out it concerns his mother.

Covering my face for a brief moment, "I know, but I am so afraid, that I might lose him if I do!"
