Chapter One Hundred and Fifty One - Hailey's Fears

Adian went to the front desk, leaving me with Gerard, who kept apologizing for being gone too long, because of the line, in the cafeteria.

I don't feel as if I can happily share my pregnancy news, just yet and I know Gerard and Basil would be curious, about my results, but I need to digest it properly, without alcohol.

Adian returned with a document in his hand, smiling as he read it's contents.

"First things," he started to say lifting his eyes to me, 'I got you a female Gym.. uh doctor for when we visit her again "He curled his lips, mentioning that. "Secondly, we meet her, next Tuesday" he chuckles, happily.

I smiled at Adian's enthusiasm about our pregnancy and I want to feel the way he feels. I want to be excited, but I'm not.

Why?

"Okay" I said, lifting the freshly made orange juice from the cafeteria, making a slurping sound, as I pull up.

Darn, it's empty!

I look up to meet Adian staring down at me, as I pouted my lips in disappointment.

Looking to Gerard, "Jerry wants to see Hailey before you take her home," Adian was saying and I cut him off.

Frowning, "aren't you going home with me?" I ask, unable to hide my disappointment and I quickly lowered my eyes from Adian's intense stare.

Coming to sit beside me, Adian, places his hand on my lap, covering my entwined hands, "I may need to remain here if my aunt has to leave." He explains and I look up quickly, ashamed for wanting him to myself when his uncle and aunt also needs him.

Nodding, "I understand and I will be fine." I responded, hoping that he doesn't see my fear. "Let's go see Jerry" I kept nodding, like a doll whose head has come loose.

Standing up, Adian nods to Gerard and holding my hand, we walk down the corridor to meet Basil sitting outside Jerry's room.

Basil stands to meet us, "I need to pick up Mel" he was saying to Adian.

Nodding at Basil, "yeah, Hailey will only be a minute or two, then she will leave with you guys." He responds, opening the door to Jerry's room, leaving Gerard and Basil staring after us in the corridor.

Ryan and Adian's aunt looked up as we walked in, but my eyes moved to the man lying on the bed, already beginning to look unrecognizable, but he beamed at me and I tugged my hand my Adian's and walked further inside towards his bed.

Jerry looked to his wife, "I would like to speak to Adian and Hailey for a few minutes," he looks between his wife and my father-in-law.

Leaning down, his wife kisses him and hugs me before she leaves and Ryan also hugs me, "you okay?" He asks and I nod, wondering why they have to leave.

As the door shut behind us, "come, come," Jerry stretches out a hand towards me, his voice, softer and his eyes already showing signs of tiredness, with dark circles under it.

Adian ushered me closer to him and I have not idea why, but I was nervous, my eyes now on the three machines attached to tubes, that's attached to his hand, nostrils and exposed chest.

Smiling broadly, he glances between Adian and I, "so?" He turned to Adian, who places a hand around my shoulder, smiling down at this uncle.

"Yeah, you're going to be a grandfather," Adian confirms softly and immediately tears started streaming down Jerry's face, alarming me.

I reached out to him, "please don't cry" I said, my heart starting to beat faster, as Adian reaches to my side wiping the tears that keeps flowing.

In between the tears, Jerry smiles, "don't worry, I am not ready to go yet" he promises. "I have to spoil my grand first" he chuckles, Adian and I laughing with him.

Chuckling, "you mean the way you spoiled him?" I raised my eyebrow, indicating Adian and Jerry reaches out and touches Adian's face.

Shaking his head, "he isn't spoiled. He's a good man and I am proud of him inspite of all his f**kups" Jerry says without smiling, his eyes full of love for the son, whose also his bestfriend.

My eyes starting to tear up, I look at the man standing beside me, as he attends to his uncle, "yes, I believe that he will make a great father, unlike me, who may not be great mother" I said softly and it was only when Adian turned to look at me and I see Jerry frowning, I realize I once again spoke my thought out loud.

Facing me, "is that what you think, that you won't be a great mom to our baby?" Adian eyes darken, as he watches me with an unreadable expression.

I was so afraid that because I had no role model, I would fail my baby but I couldn't admit that to Adian and so I chose to remain silent instead.

Looking down at my feet, I just shook my head in denial, unable to express my feelings right now, to him or anyone.

After a few awkward minutes, Adian finally spoke, "I'm going to see Hailey off, but I will remain tonight with you while aunty goes home." Adian explains to his uncle and I realize that I am just being a baby, when here lies on this bed a man who almost lost his life and I am concern about my husband not being with me tonight.

I smile at Jerry, needing to reassure him that I am fine, while he glances between Adian and I, his tired eyes darkened with concern.

"Maybe you should remain home with Hailey," Jerry was saying and I cut him across.

Touching his hand, "are you forgetting that we can chat or facetime all night long?" I reminded Jerry with a soft chuckle. "Aunty needs to rest and her mind will be at ease if she knows that Aidan is here with you
