Ensuring that Hailey's in good hands with Ger replacing Mac at the coffee shop, she's at with Simon, I took Bas and Mac with me to my mother's home to visit my hysterical ex-girlfriend, at her request.
"Won't it be funny if the ex-fiance's also there?" Bas chuckles to himself. "Mrs. K. won't have room for all of your exes" Bas continues to chuckle as he speaks to himself.
I notice Mac fighting a laugh at the nonsense Bas is, muttering, which would have been funny, if it wasn't my past irresponsible hookups being mocked.
"So Mac, thank you for following my wife into the restaurant, but were you close enough, to have overheard their conversation?" I ask, because since I haven't spoken to Hailey, I have no idea what I'm walking into and once my mother's involved, I know, it's bad.
Mac who's riding shotgun, turn around with a grin, "I've done better than that" he chuckles while he fiddles around with his phone. "I recorded most of their conversation, especially when Hailey disappeared into the washroom." Mac admitted.
Washroom!
Panic attack!
Sensing a change in my demeanor, Bas was the first to question Mac.
"Was she okay? " Bas asks quickly, matching my worried expression in the rearview mirror.. "Did she seem okay when she returned from the washroom?" Bas persisted, when my phone beeped with a notification, from Mac.
As I anxiously await Mac's response on Hailey's well being, my thumb hovers over the play button off the video Mac sent to my phone.
Looking between Bas and I, Mac nods.
"She seemed composed, but gave me a nervous smile as she walked by to rejoin your mother." Mac explains and I breath a sigh of relief, but I am still concern because Hailey's a professional at hiding her feelings.
"But your mother taunted her after she retuned to the table, which I found odd, about her breaking down or something like that." Mac added vaguely, "but it's all in the video. " He concluded, pointing to the phone in my hand.
"Man that's a brilliant thing you did, making a recording of the luncheon." Bas commends Mac while maneuvering the vehicle through the evening traffic. "Evidence!" He laughs!
Mac swung around as far as the seatbelt would allow his bulky frame too.
"Another odd thing though," he blinks and shakes his head. "It could mean nothing, or maybe it's important, but after seeing Samantha with your mother, I only agreed with Mrs. Knights meeting them, if she ate the lunch I ordered and advised her to refused what they ordered." I lifted my eyes as Mac spoke wondering where this goes.
"Mrs. K. had already ordered for your wife, but she turned down the lunch explaining that she just ate at her previous meeting." Mac stops to breathe in, before continuing and I know he won't be mentioning this, if it wasn't important.
"Mrs. Knights requested, that the waitress pack the lunch for her to go, but the waitress never returned with the food, to take away." Mac frowns and I turned looking at Bas who was staring at him.
Shrugging, he turned around, "maybe it was nothing" Mac said, but he was still frowning as if he didn't believe it was nothing.
"My wife's allergic to certain cooking ingredients" I paused, wondering if my mom could hurt Hailey with a meal. Scuffing, "I no longer put anything past my mother and hurting Hailey is high on her list." I admitted regretfully.
Unwilling to allow my mind to go further, about the possibility of Hailey consuming anything meant to hurt her and our baby. I'll never forgive my f**king mother for hurting them, NEVER!
"I finally pressed the play button of the video and the vehicle went silent.
With a headphone attached to my ear, I listened intently because the way the camera was angled, the only person I saw was Hailey, with mom and Sam's backs, turned to Mac.
I listened in silence, observing my wife's reluctance to stare at Sam after mom introduced them. Even though she has nothing to be jealous about and I did tell her that my past is an open book to her.
"What the f**k!" I shouted, alarming Bas, who impulsively mashed the brakes of the SUV.
"Turn this fucking vehicle around," I barked at Bas, as my rage intensives.
"That f**king bitch, " I continued to holler obscenities as I listen to the lie that was fed to my pregnant wife.
What the f**k is wrong with Sam and why would she willfully support my mother on her mission to break my wife.
Bas, who was already changing lanes in order to get to a exit to change our destination, was extremely quite as was Mac.
I stopped looking at the video and instantly dialed Ger.
Ger as usual, always on the top of his game answered instantly.
"Yeah" he responded, we're already at the penthouse and the girls are with Mrs. Harris finishing dinner." He explained but I need more information.
"How's Hailey? Is she upset?" I asked quickly because Hailey and our baby's wellbeing are my number one priority, right now.
"Uh, no!" He quickly assures me. "She's fine," he admitted. "She left the coffee shop in good spirits." He continues as I try to accept his words.
Once she's fine , I can breathe easily.
"Okay, I'm on my way home" I informed him before hanging up.
I could feel Bas eyes on me through the rearview mirror and I should tell him what I heard on the video, but I was to angry to explain, the betrayal I have once again encountered at an ex, especially Samantha.
If she wasn't pregnant, I would totally kick her out of the apartment, but because of her baby, I couldn't.
"I could f**king strangle the both of them" I muttered angrily, "it's unbelievable the lengths my mother's willing to go." I said punching the front back rest.
