Opening the black notepad in his hands, the male cop approaches me, "your name please?" He enquires firmly, with pencil in hand and his eyes on his notepad.
"Hailey," I said nervously, "Hailey Kn.." I stuttered, "Sullivan, Hailey Sullivan." I said, because I don't want to draw unnecessary attention to the Knights name and Hailey Sullivan is the name that's on the case file against Ellis Clark.
The officer continued to ask me questions I considered irrelevant, but I co-operated with him answering all of his questions to the best of my ability.
"You didn't turn around to identify the man following you, so what made you convince that he was behind you?" The officer ask and I stared at him thoughtfully, fear starting to creep up in my stomach and my heart.
Before I could respond to the officer, there was a soft knock on the office door and it opened revealing the security from earlier. He came in, followed by my angry husband and Emmy, who rushed towards me.
"Hailey!" Emmy screamed, throwing herself into my arms as I knelt to hug her. "We look and look and we couldn't find you," Emmy cried but as I hugged her, my eyes was on my husband's stony expression.
Basil came in and nods to me, his eyes leaving mines to Adian's angry form.
"Mr. Knights" the cop who was questioning me, put out a hand to greet Adian, apparently surprised to see him.
It took a few seconds for Adian to acknowledge the cop and shake his hand.
"Officer..." Adian greets him, with a firm handshake, but waiting for the cop to introduce himself.
"Jackson," the cop said, "officer Jackson," he repeated and turned to me. "I was just questioning uh.." he pause to check his notepad, "Sullivan" he reads from his notes looking back to Adian.
Adian returned his focus on me, "Knights, Hailey Knights, my wife," Adian corrects the wrong information in gave the cop, who now looks at me in surprise, more respect than before.
Searching beyond Basil, "where's Adana?" I asked confused, frowning at Basil and then Adian.
"Adian screamed at Dana and she cried and" Emmy was saying and paused, apparently searching for words to explain herself.
Adian came and took Emmy from me, "later, we'll tell her what happened, okay?" he makes a deal with Emmy and staring at the both of us, she reluctantly agreed, with a pout.
Turning to address the cop, "would you like me to bring my wife to the station or do you want to visit us at home?" Adian asks the cops sounding impatient.
He's upset with me, because I stupidly allowed myself to be lost in a stupid Mall.
But how was I suppose to know, Ellis was in the vicinity?
"Did he know I was here, in the mall?" I asked Adian, baffled.
Without answering me, "let's finish this at home," Adian advises me tersely and turned to the cops, pulling out a card from his wallet, he wrote behind it and gave it to the officer.
Nodding to Adian, the officer turned to me, "we'll continue this in a short while." He says and turns to speak to the security officers from the pharmacy.
I wait for the officers to finish conversing with the cop, before smiling apologetically.
"Thank you, for being here," I whispered softly.
Smiling kindly, "you're welcome. I didn't know you were a Knights," she said, her eyes drifting to Adian with a coy smile at me.
Turning around spontaneously, I caught Adain staring at me.
Nodding, "yeah. I just don't like using my husband's name to obtain favours." I explained and she nods in understanding.
"Well you own this Mall, so you won't be asking us for favors" she laughs and looks at Emmy, leaving me shocked.
The Knights owned the Mall?
Stooping in front of a now shy Emmy, "and whose this adorable little angel?" she asks, touching Emmy's loose afro curls, that's dancing on her forehead.
Sweeping the hair off her face, Adain comes to stand behind us, "she's our daughter, Emmy" Adian answers for me and caresses Emmy's head.
The security smiles at us, "you're a beautiful couple and I'm glad I met you, both" she was saying as Emmy starts pointing at us, then adds herself.
"Three" she corrects the officer, lifting her fingers for the officer to see.
I laugh with the officer but the most Adian did was twitch the corners of his mouth.
Stretching out his hand to shake her hand, "thank you for taking care of my wife. I will forever be grateful to you and you can call my office at anytime, whenever I can be of assistance to you." Adian, gives his personal card to the security, before turning to the gentleman who was the first to help me, when I was scared.
Instead of thanking him, I hugged him and caught him by surprise.
Patting my back, "there, there, don't worry. You are safe now." He reminds me and I moved away smiling sadly.
"Thank you," I said turning to Adian, "can I have one of your cards please?" I asked, but he already had one in his hand.
Taking it from him, "please call me through my husband's number, at anytime." I told him and he looks at Adian, with raised eyebrows.
Chuckling for the first time, "oh don't worry, she always has my phone and wallet," he says playfully. "But on a serious note, I appreciate you all for helping Hailey, even though you didn't know who she was and that says a lot about the employees of this fine establishment." Adian honored the security, whose name I didn't get and taking out my phone, I gave it to him for his number and name.
Breathing in deeply, I walked hand in hand with Emmy, as Basil and Adian follows closely behind us. I dread the next hour or so, when I have to relive my fear of being followed and threatened by Ellis Clarke once again.
