Chapter One Hundred and Ninety Eight - Meeting Mr. Sullivan

Walking into the state penitentiary for the first time ever, was f**king unnerving, but it's better for me to make this trip, first.

Bas opted to remain outside while I face my father-in-law for the first time since I became aware of his existence.

Why is he in here and for so long? He promised Hailey to return for her, but hasn't kept his promise.

"Good day, Mr. Knight?" A security guard with a clipboard in his hand, approaches me with an aloof nod, his dark eyes intimidating but I'm not intimidated.

Accessing him, with the same expression, I nod. "That's me, Adian Knights" I introduced myself as I await entrance to the area where I can meet Mr. Sullivan for the first time.

Now that's intimidating!

With the same bland expression, "I am sorry Mr. Sullivan has no desire to meet with you today," the guard says, but he definitely isn't sorry, the motherf**ker!

Nodding, "okay," I responded politely to the guard who is simply delivering a message. "Thank you, but can you let Mr. Sullivan know that I made this trip solo, but the next time my wife, his daughter will be accompanying me." I smiled, but my expression matched the guard's.

Looking behind him, apparently surprised by my response, he turns to me again.

"Would you have a seat," he offers, pointing to a vacant row of chairs to my left. "I'll be right back," he promises, leaving me to take a seat before knocking on a large silver iron gate, glancing behind me once more before walking through the iron gate, shutting it behind him.

As I twiddle my thumbs, my mind ran onto Hailey and how she's handling my mother at the meeting I had to abandon when one of my PI found David Sullivan.

This opportunity was too good to pass up and I refused to delay it, plus I need for Hailey to stand strong and Anthony has strict instruction to take her out of the boardroom, if it's absolutely necessary.

Without a phone in here I can only assume that she's doing great.

Wiping the palm of my hands over my face as I await an answer from my f**king father-in-law, who has the audicity to refuse my visit.

As my mind kept wandering about the circumstances that led to David Sullivan's incarnation, which is still not public knowledge, since there were not court case records concerning his crime.

I turned my attention to the sound of the iron gate that swung open with a loud thud and stood up as I saw the same security guard coming towards me.

Taking a deep breath, I wait for him to respond to the message I sent to David Sullivan.

"Mr. Sullivan is waiting to see you in the visitation room" the guard says and I breathe a sigh of relief. "This way" the guard, indicates that I should follow him.

I haven't given any thought to what I should say to my father-in-law but I knew I had to meet him today.

I followed the security guard into what he calls the visitation room, looking around me satisfied that there are just tables and chairs because speaking behind glass over a phone is not what I had in mind.

Shaking my head in annoyance, because all I have thought about since I got the phone call from my PI, was just making it here.

There were visitors with relatives and four men sitting at different tables awaiting their visitors and one of them is waiting on me.

I searched the faces of all four men, who were also staring back at me indifferently, wondering who the hell is David Sullivan?

The guard turned and saw my confused expression, "do you know David Sullivan?" He asks suspiciously.

Shaking my head, "no it's been years, but I'm married to his daughter and we have only now found out where he is, hence the reason of this visit." I explained to the guard, who was surprised at my response.

Not surprised at the guards response, since this is my first visit after finding out about Sullivan's incarnation.

"So you have no idea who you're here to meet?" The guard probed, which has me wondering if this is usual. "I can take you to anyone of these four men and you would just take it for granted, that the man you're sitting in front of, is David Sullivan?" The guard chuckles dryly.

I was almost ready to wipe the smug look off the guard's face, but I mashed my brakes just in time. I need the motherf**ker!

"Oh I'm sure spotting the poor excuse of a man, who abandoned his daughter after his mistress murdered his wife should be easy to locate." I retorted loudly, only to see angry fire blazing in one pair of eyes.

Eyes that are dark brown just like his other daughter, glaring back at me, almost ready to pounce like a predator.

Approaching his table, I slowly pulled out a single chair opposite to where he sat.

"By the glare in your eyes, I guess calling you dad is not an option?" I asked dryly, my eyes dark and angry matching his.

Even though I sense the guard standing at my side, I kept my eyes on my father-in-law watching him nod at the guard standing beside me, hearing as he walked away, still not looking away.

"Why are you here after all this time?" David Sullivan scuffed at me. "The only reason I am meeting with you today, is to let you know you and your wife isn't welcome here" David Sullivan said as if he just dipped his tongue in acid.

Confused as to his hatred, I frowned.

"Am I missing something here?" I asked because meeting his daughter after so many years doesn't seem appealing to him.

Chuckling sasactically, with a huff, "no, you're missing nothing." He retorts, "your wife made her choice years ago and I've come to terms with it." Sullivan laughs. "It's far to late for family reunions." He added dryly.

Leaning back, wiping my face with my palms, fully confused.

All the anger and resentment I felt on my way here has disappeared and all that's left, is unanswered questions and more confusion.

"Too late for a family reunion?" I asked slowly, his eyes narrowing as he frowns at my confused expression.

"Yes your wife is past our reunion date.
