With my hand on the doorknob, I took a deep breath before turning the knob and slowly pushed the door in without making a sound.
Emmy laid on the bed I previously used, when I first came here, but she was surrounded by stuff toys, of every different creature and color.
The overhead lights illuminates the room making Emmy visible, even from the doorway.
She does this when she is afraid and even though she's been living in my home for so many days, I have not been here for her.
When we are sad and afraid, we are always there for each other and for the first time since I have met Emmy, I failed her.
Leaving the door ajar in case Adian's looking for me, I walked further inside the bedroom and towards the bed. Climbing slowly unto the bed, I started shifting the stuffed animals to make room for myself beside her.
Curling up beside her I pulled her into my arms, hugging her.
Sensing me beside her, "I missed you," she mummers in her sleep, wrapping an arm over my arm, with a contented smile on her little lips.
Turning when I felt I felt a hand on my shoulder, "hey," I smiled at Adian, shifting and making room for him on the bed. "You're going back to bed?" I whispered.
"Yeah" Adian whispered back with a smirk, reaching over me and moving the loose strands of hair off Emmy's forehead. "You staying here or you're coming with me?" Adian asked, also moving the loose strands of hair from my head.
With a brief look at Emmy I turned back to Adian, "I'm going with you," I responded, "her bed is already over full," I laughed softly, handing him a stuffed giraffe.
Adian slid of the bed and I followed him, putting back the stuffed animals I just moved, before walking out the door hand in hand with my husband.
Adian went into the washroom to freshen himself while I climbed into bed, deciding to use the bathroom before I fall asleep.
I have more important things to deal with right now and number one on my list is Emmy.
Adian laughed when he saw me propped against the pillow, with my eyes glued to the bathroom door.
With a towel wrapped around his hip and droplets of water running down his body, "you're going to shower?" He nods behind him and I shook my head.
"Not yet, I need to talk to you about something important," I responded anxiously, shooing him towards the dressing room. "Go, hustle," I instructed him impatiently.
With a concerned look, his eyebrows raised, "should I be worried?" He asks without moving in the direction of the dressing room.
Shaking my head d impatiently, "no, it's good I promise you." I tell him. "Please hurry and dry yourself," I said, waving my hand towards the dressing room once again.
By the time, ADain returned from the dressing room, dressed in only a boxer, as is his preference most nights, I felt myself entangled in knots.
I inspected him from head to, as far as my eyes could see as he walked closer to me. His damp hair flicked back unruly on top of his head, adds to his sex appeal.
"If you weren't a CEO, you would have totally passed for a model," I chuckle, while I checked him out.
With a smirk, he walks towards the bed, dimming the lights with the remote and flicking on the Air Condition Unit, something I will turn off when I am done showering and put on the overhead fan.
"Oh I'm sure I could be a model just for you and only in here," he coos seductively climbing into bed with me.
Chuckling softly, "Okay, I could work with that," I responded quickly.
Patting the space closer to me, "now lets talk." I said firmly, breaking the intense atmosphere that we were suddenly building.
Adian may not know it, but I am not ready to get intimate, at least not yet.
"Talk about shutting a man down," Adian mutters softly, pulling the cover over his hips and with hands on his lap, he look at me in anticipation.
Okay here goes, I suddenly don't know where to start and the speech I just practice in my head is now gone.
"Hailey?" Adian says and I turned to him confused.
With the same concern look, Adian tilts his head, "you had something important to discuss with me?"
"David Sullivan!" Flew out of my mouth instead.
Slapping my hand over my mouth, shocked that I said those two words because I wanted to know, but I am afraid to ask and he's coming for me. I am afraid to wait and be disappointed again, so I prefer not to know anymore.
"I'm sorry," I corrected myself before Adian could respond, "I didn't mean to bring his name up, at least not yet." I explained.
Drawing me closer, "I'm glad you did bring his name up because I wanted to but I didn't want to upset you," Adian responded softly. "There's a lot of questions and I don't have all of the answers, but one thing I do know for a fact, is that my mother kept you away from each other, but all of that is going to change and he made the first move towards reaching out today, in court." Adian continued explaining, but his explanation, explains nothing.
With a doubtful frown at him, "I.. I am sorry, but I still don't understand," I told him, laying my head against his bare chest. "Would I have to wait till he comes to see me for the answers?" I lifted my eyes to his curiously.
Adian didn't respond right away, but all I heard were the thuds against his chest as his heart raced rapidly.
Why is his heart pounding so quickly?
What is bothering him?
Is he nervous about something?
"Tell me please, Adian!"
