I've had short showers during the last few weeks, but today's shower is much shorter!
Standing outside the living room a short while ago, where Adian and his father were supposedly discussing Ryan's problem or reason for visiting, I ended up hearing Adian cry to his father.
It broke me and woke me at the same time!
For the first time, I ran up the stairs clutching my chest, unafraid.
ADIAN! My concern now, is Adian!
Oh how he's hurting and I wasn't emotionally there to help him.
But not anymore, I decided with a determination.
I knew Adian would have felt the loss of our baby, but I was only considering myself, because as long as I can remember, it's always been me seeking my interest!
It was always me, having to lift myself up when I fell!
It was always me, who nursed me back to health!
It was always me, who helped me through my mental breakdowns over the years!
Nanny Pierce, was there, but emotionally removed, until now!
But now, Adian's here! Adian is always close, ready and willing to help me, when I reach out.
But I wasn't there for him and that is going to change from now on, I reminded myself.
Adian and Emmy's, my first priority!
After pulling up a shorts and one of Adian's oversized jersey's I decided to actually use a brush on my hair instead of my fingers, to look presentable, in front of my father-in-law.
I had already asked Mrs. Harris to prepare a breakfast for Ryan and coffee for Adian and I, before returning to my bedroom in a daze, having overheard Adian and his father.
Mrs. Harris was waiting for me, with a tray on the table, filled with pastries and a plate with freshly made pancakes and eggs and fruits.
Adian and his father were discussing something of importance, both heads bent close as Ryan listens intently to what Adian was saying to him.
Mrs. Harris walked in with the tray of food, pastries and fruits, while I followed with my favorite thing ever, coffee!
"I hope you're hungry" I sang cheerfully, to alert them of my presence in the room because I feel, I've invaded their privacy enough for the day!
Adian and Ryan looked up at the same time,
Ryan's eyes conveyed surprise and admiration, while my husband's just seemed shocked at my light and breezy entrance.
Ryan stood up to take the tray from Mrs. Harris, leaving me to put the coffee tray in front of Adian.
"Daisy," Ryan greeted Mrs. Harris, "it's good to see you," Ryan greeted her with a warm smile, genuinely happy to see her.
"Daisy?" I whispered to Adian, hearing him chuckle at my surprise.
"Don't let Bas in on that, otherwise your kitchen will be flooded with daisies," Adan laughs, moving to take a coffee mug from the tray, to help himself.
I love when he uses phrases like, "your kitchen, your home, but he always say our bedroom and our bathroom. He nay not know it, but these simple phrases gives me a sense of belonging.
I finally have the family, I always craved for, minus the mother.
Stopping him, "let me," I insisted, filling the mug and making the coffee just the way he like it.
Ryan insisted Mrs. Harris or Daisey as he fondly called her, sit and join us for coffee.
Adian leaned over as I started sipping from my mug, the coffee suddenly distasteful in my mouth.
My eyes started watering up when I remembered why I stopped drinking the coffee, in the first place.
I felt an arm around my shoulders before he kisses me lightly on my head.
He understood.
Curling up my feet I leaned closer to his chest, already realizing, coffee is not longer my most favorite thing, ever!
I followed Mrs. Harris into the kitchen with a second tray, to help clean up before she prepares lunch, since Adian invited me to join him and Ryan for their meeting.
While rinsingbthe dishes, I recollected the conversation I overheard, between them concerning David Sullivan and what is needed from me for his release.
I don't know why he's in prison, but apparently I can help him come home and when he comes home, Ameila will be in trouble.
I want her to pay for what she did to my mother and to me, over the years.
For that reason only, I will be strong and testify for my father.
"Hailey," Mrs. Harris says from behind me, gently holding my shoulders.
Laughing nervously when she woke me from my deep dark thoughts.
"Go join Adian and Ryan," she says, turning me towards the doorway. "I'll pack away the dishes." She says. "And there's a mug of chocolate tea on the counter for you." She nods to the counter.
"Thank you," reaching out, I hugged her tightly.
Hugging me back, "why?" She asks softly.
Straightening up, "for taking care of my family," I admitted, embarrassed because she has been doing what I couldn't.
Drawing me back into a hug, "you're all my family, too." Mrs. Harris corrected me, shooing me out of the kitchen, sipping my chocolate tea.
Adian and Ryan were both seated in the same place, with notepads and a files in front of them.
"Should I come back?" I reluctantly interrupted them.
Adian looks up and smiles, stretching out a hand for me to join him.
Making a hideous frown, I took a seat beside him.
Reaching for my coffee mug, "what's that?" He whispers, smiling when he inhales the chocolate tea, taking a hearty gulp, much to my annoyance.
"Hey," I complained, reaching for my mug when Mrs. Harris spoke from behind me.
"No fighting, I've made extras in case Adian tries to hijack yours." She laughs, placing a fresh mug in front of me and one in front of Ryan, who was still engrossed in the file in front of him.
"It's the buzzer."
