Chapter 13

Aspen and the other royals were taken from the cell.

"What is the meaning of this?" King Weed demanded.

"I'm sorry, but we can no longer let you live." Said the dark mage who was escorting them.

They were placed on a small platform.

A staff with a crystal on the top that had the colors of all the elements, sat on the floor.

"What's going on?" Aspen asked Emerald.

Emerald shook in fear, "I've only seen those in legends!"

"What does it do?" King weed demanded. "Tell me you pitiful earth mage!"

"Dad, be nice." Aspen said.

The Governess picked up the staff and pointed it towards the royals. "Now, before we steal your powers, we ask that you willingly give us your realms."

"We'll never let you take our realms!" Chancellor Blaze yelled.

"So be it, start the extraction!" The governess ordered.

Aspen braced himself as the rest of the Royals shielded their kids.

"Wait!" Someone said from the crowd.

Aspen looked up.

Mantis had his hand raised.

"Yes Lieutenant Mantis?" The Governess asked.

"Spare the children, once they're parents are dead, we can use them to rule the kingdoms with your rules." Mantis said winking at Aspen.

"A fair point Mantis, let the children go."

Aspen and the other kids were let out of their restraints.

"Let the extraction continue."

Aspen nudged Mantis, "What happened to queen Cloud and king Tornado?"

"They fought back and we had to kill them." Mantis sighed.

"You did what?" Aspen gasped. "They were Breeze's parents."

"Yes, but my loyalty to the Governess is more important than my love life." Mantis said. He smiled and walked off.

"That is so dark." Emerald said.

They heard an explosion and the next thing they knew, they're parents were turned to ash.

The kids began to cry as the Governess stepped up and kicked the ash. " The realms are mine!"

Aspen noticed that four jewels appeared around the governess neck.

"I think she's taken their powers and is storing them in those jewels." Aspen told Emerald and Burn.

Emerald took Shark from Aspen and cradled her in his arms. "Wow, that's impressive." Emerald said sarcastically.

Burn looked around. "I can't believe they're gone."

"I know, but we have to stay strong." Aspen said.

Shark reached for Aspen.

"She's all yours, your majesty." Emerald said, handing Shark to Aspen.

"Stop it Em, you're flattering me." Aspen laughed.

Emerald raised an eyebrow. "Excuse me?"

"Oh, nevermind." Aspen sighed.

The royals were escorted out of the chamber and back into their cell.

"Let us out!" Burn shrieked. Fire covered her body as her hair rose up.

The dark mage laughed and closed the door.

Burn let out a fiery blast that knocked the door down.

Emerald and Aspen were both shocked.

Shark laughed and clapped her hands.

"Well, that's cool." Emerald said.

They snuck out of their cell quietly.

Aspen had to cover Shark's mouth in order to make sure they were absolutely silent.

Shark saw two guards walking towards them and flinched.

"Aw, what wrong?" Aspen asked.

Burn raised her hands ready to strike.

"Hey!" A guard yelled.

The second guard pressed a red button and the hall turned red.

"Thanks a lot Burn." Emerald said.

"Oh really, cause I'm pretty sure they found us because of Shark!" Burn said. Her hair was set on fire and Emerald stepped back.

As the two argued, guards filled the hallways.

Aspen looked around for anything that could help them.

Emerald took out his wand and shot an emerald green light towards the guards.

"You had that the whole time?" Aspen shouted.

"Yeah, so?" Emerald said blasting a group of guards down the hall.

They fought their way to the exit but were blocked by the Governess and Mantis.

Burn extinguished herself, but Emerald raised his wand higher into the air.

Mantis charged towards them.

Shark jumped from Aspen's arms and shot a geyser of water from her hands.

Mantis was thrown onto the floor.

Aspen, Burn and Emerald all stared at the baby water mage.

"How the hell did she?" Burn gasped.

"Well, it doesn't matter now, let's get a move on." Aspen said, running out the exit."
