Sentencing

The following weeks are constant drama and I'm exhausted. Touya and Natsuo have done all they can to keep me out of it, but there was really only so much they could do considering the official story they decided to go with. It seems that some time ago he decided he was going to need to turn himself in once he got rid of his father. His work with Hawks wasn't just about bringing him into the league. At first it was but after our fight at the cabin and the promise he made me he approached Hawks and told him that he really was more interested in talking to him because he figured he was supposed to spy on the league, he offered to do the spying instead, told him how he didn't want to be a villain anymore, that he turned to crime and violence as a young teen after he ran away from an abusive home and he always felt like he had no other choice but to steal and hurt people in order to get by. He told him that he started to get to a point he was losing emotions, then he by chance came into contact with a family member he used to be close to and he wanted to become a better person, that he wanted to pay his dues to society and reconcile with his family. Hawks bought it, probably because some of what he said was true and Touya is an excellent liar. As far as that day goes he says he is unsure how Shigaraki found out his brother set it up for him to meet with his father who he wanted to take him in for his crimes and that Shigaraki got there first and used his quirk stealing bullets to get close enough to end Endeavor. Supposedly Natsuo was saved just barley as Touya finally showed up for the meeting and fought with Shigaraki to save his brother. My name was never brought up in any official reports.

Fuyumi and Shoto knowing I went with Natsuo that day easily put two and two together and for once one of Shotos theories was correct. "You meet Touya before all this didn't you, that's the guy Natsuo was teasing you about loving when we were visiting mom, that's why you said all that stuff to her and why you kept crying. You've been dating Touya." My first instinct of course was to deny it, but I decided if he was going to prison so we could have a life together his family may as well know about us so I told him he was right and that I don't really want it to be known because I don't want to be interviewed or interrogated because of my anxiety, he understood and vowed not to say anything. He did however ask both me and Natsuo a million questions about Touya, I didn't mind talking to Shoto though, I loved that he wanted to know about his brother. The next day after that conversation, Mama Rei found out about everything as we sat down and told her. It turns out the thing Touya handed Shigaraki that day was a video that he and Natsuo made, I have no idea when, but I recognize the dock they are sitting on. It's the brothers talking about their childhood and the things that went on in that house, how Touya thought he was going to die in a horrible fire started by the intense training his father insisted he undergo, but he was saved by a man whose name he never came to know, a villain who took him in and showed him the ropes. It's pretty damming to Endeavors reputation even discussing how mama Rei lost it under his constant abuse.

Mama Rei gained permission to attend Touyas trial, depending on how she handles it they may allow her to go home. I sit next to her holding her hands her smiling at me brighter than ever now that she knows about Touya and I. Shoto sits on the other side of Rei and Natsuo next to me with Ryoko next to him. When they bring Touya out he is wearing a plain black suit, hair still white, he's just as beautiful as always, but different in some ways. He's been in custody now for nearly three months and his scars aren't as purple as they've been, I surmise this is due to the fact he's unable to use his quirk therefore he isn't burning himself and is actually healing a little. If he really gave it time and got proper grafts he may never have purple patchwork again, but the scars from his staples will always remain even if he removes them. The thought of him still having some scars comforts me, I love that he's different. When the judge enters the courtroom everything goes quiet and everyone stands, Touya stands in front of him ready for his sentencing. His crimes are read off, things I was never even truly aware of. Arson, murder, stealing. The judge ask Touyas attorney why he's asking for leniency and the attorney rattles off a list of information passed on from Touya to the authorities, his working relationship with Hawks, and the fact that he turned himself in. The judge then asked the DA what he would like to see happen with the sentencing, she gives a little speech then states she'd like Touya to serve 10 years or 7 with probation for good behavior. A group of sympathizers in the courtroom start crying out about injustice the bailiff silencing them "All things considered Mr. Todoroki I sentence you to seven years in a maximum security facility with the possibility for parole after four."

Mama Rei and I cry together, a minimum of four years without him by my side, it's like a knife in the heart. I stand grabbing Mama Reis hands guiding her towards the front. "Your honor, please, his mother hasn't seen him since he was assumed dead over 10 years ago, may she have a moment to see him?" I ask with a pleading voice fighting back the tears, the judge looks at us for a moment. "Allow Mr. Todoroki five minutes please." I nod thanking the judge bailiff guiding us to a room off to the side "are you family as well ma'am?" He ask, mama Rei holds my hands tight. "She's my daughter in law and my strength during this time." He nods and allows us both to enter Touya sitting chained to a table by the ankles. "Mom, beautiful as always." He says voice cracking "I've missed you so much mom." She looks as if she floats heading towards him putting her arms around him and I realize I must look that tiny when he hugs me too. "My sweet baby, I'm so happy you're alive. I may be getting out of the hospital soon, I want to be home for you when the four years are over." He smiles at her wiping tears from her face. "I'd love that so much. I'm going to remember this hug for the next four years to get me through." He kisses her on top of the head before looking at me. "Baby, thank you for bringing mom." I nod at him "Shoto and Fuyumi are here too, but we all agreed if anyone could see you it should be her." His face falls a little looking at me "Will you wait for me? Four years is a long time." I wipe the tears from my face "I'd wait a hundred for you Touya. I'm yours remember." He shakes his head "I don't deserve you, but I'm going to try." Mama Rei moves to push me over to him, he catches me in his arms kissing me deep. "Dabi I love you." He chuckles "Pray to me every night." I nod sniffling. "Times up ladies." I follow Rei out of the room turning to take one last look at the love of my life.
