Chapter 39- Conflicting Emotions

--Alexandria POV--

"What happened?" Val asked as soon as we were behind the curtains and away from the audience who had started to quieten down by now.

"I don't know," I mumbled out quietly, pulling my hand out of his and turning to look at something that wasn't his face. He released a heavy sigh and I felt like I was about to get scolded for doing something I wasn't supposed to do. It wasn't my fault though.

"Alexa," I was surprised by the gentleness in his tone but still didn't allow myself to look at him. "Can you look at me?" When I didn't move, he bent his body, tilting his head so he could catch my gaze.

I flinched as he raised his hands, resting them on my cheeks and stroking them with his thumbs, wiping away my tears.

I didn't realise that I had started crying.

"Who pushed you onto the stage?" He finally asked the question I was dreading.

"No one," I don't know why I was defending that maid.
