Southern Adventures pt.11

The next morning was as usual in the forest. Witches and wizards silently ate their food, which tasted anything but good, and the three musketeers of the wolves sat on the nature table situated at the middle of the dome.

"To be honest, she has a reason to be mad at you, Ronald."

"You only side her because she is your cousin."

"No, I—"

"Yes! Yes he supports me because I'm his cousin! I have my answer anyway!" Both the males look at the crooked lady and sigh. Their conversation had wordlessly come to an end and there was no one daring to say anything anymore.

Ronald, still shaken with the encounter with the Devil, stares away into the woods, animals cluttering close under his gaze even if they are singing a song in the hidden canopies or making burrows.

"What are you thinking about?" Gerald asked him curiously, munching on an apple as he looked at the wood-gazing individual.

"Me? I'm just—"

"Watching birds and bunnies. That's his daily routine." Jane cut him off and answered for him in a bored tone. Ronald slowly turned his head towards her and lift an eyebrow, confused by her knowledge about HIS daily activities.

"How do you know?" He asked, slightly skeptical of his mate who yawned because of boredom.

"You sir, literally love my room's window more than me. Every time I walk in, I find you staring away into the woods far away. Your eyes usually have your cyan glint, I could tell. And by the way, you love animals and nature way too much. Brought the hunch from our first ever meeting." She explained her reasons, sipping on her decoction to get rid of her unbearable sleepiness. She is usually an early bird, chirping and singing out loud when people were trying to process what day and year they have woken up to.

Ronald nods his head in agreement, neither of any of her assumptions about him were wrong. Yes, he used to gaze out of the window and use his powers to skim through the forest floor. Sometimes he loved the innocent creatures minding their own business for their survival.

And sometimes he encountered stupid humans who brought their lovers there to—

That.

"So tell me. What do you actually find so amusing in those creatures that you don't find yourself in a conversation with us? Don't tell me you speak to them too." The nature's oblivious alpha royal joked, only to receive silence in the form of straight lipped faces staring at him comically.

"What?" Gerald looked at them both, perplexed and on the verge of getting embarrassed.

"Every living orgamism has the ability to communicate, my friend." Ronald started, involving himself in this one conversation because it is his desired topic of interest.

"Oh, really?"

"Yes. Just like us, the animals, and a few very rare species of trees and plants are able to communicate to the other organisms around." Gerald's mouth was hung open when trees and plants were mentioned on the list.

"How bizarre? I mean, plants too?"

"Yes." Ronald answered the man and chuckled at his stunned expression.

"A few go like: snake plants, ficus, cherry blossom, begonia, pteriches and...wolfsbane." Both the cousins, astonished at the unusual and known names of the plants looked at each other and back at Ronald.

The elemental looked as if this was so common to him, sitting calmly and looking around for anything peculiar.

"They might not speak so fluently and have their own language. Their speeches are something similar to a toddler's blabbers." He added on, the cousins making an 'o' shape with their lips and appearing comical to few.

"That's...mind-blowing. I didn't know even plants could talk and respond like people. Animals isn't very new but you talking to them is slightly weird." Gerald gave in his honest opinions. Ronald clicked his tongue and leaned back on his chair, initiating a conversation with the snake who said hello to him.

"He's talking to something again." Jane pointed out, looking at his face turned away and his thoughts being loud over his head.

"Man, he's so weird." Gerald scoffed, a small smile dancing on his lips at the incredible powers of the elemental. It must be nice knowing you can never be alone. You can actually talk to plants and animals. He even links this power to normal humans, their weird habit of talking to their pets and pet plants. Turns out, he was the weird one to actually think that most living things are born mute.

"Yeah, but I love him." Jane said dreamily, her elbow on the bench as her face rested on her palm, giving him the heart eyes of the century.

Gerald scoffed again and looked away, not being able to tolerate the lovesick couple anymore.

On the other hand, Ronald had his sharp senses hear her tell she loves him anyway, and the red blush coating his cheeks were too adorable.

'Bye'

'Bye, snake.' His conversation with the snake ended when the snake teased him for what he shared with it. He told the creature about his love and what she just told him. The reptile slithered away, happy and contented after having a talk with the elemental.

Ronald sighed once he turned his attention back to his wolf people and found her still staring at him with her loving expression.

And that was how a lovely staring competition had started.
