The Assassination

Silence overwhelmed in the palace. The maids who had witnessed the death of their king were succumbed in fear. The King that was alive right in front of their eyes just got stabbed by a sword by an unknown woman making him dead on her hands.

The woman had a warrior appearance, fighter sense and feminine firm muscles. She was quite tall for a woman and has this brave eyes incomparable from the kingdom's soldiers. Her upper body is clothed with white long sleeves locked with leather embodice inserted inside a black leggings and long boots that reaches the calf of her leg. Behind her is a coat made of fur that reaches down to her ankle and a black cloak covering her.

She was still on her knees waiting for the king to catch his last breath. With her cold eyes, it may seem she had assassinated too many that it is impossible for her to feel the guilt. The happening was quick that turned the witnesses into daze and screamed in fear for a moment as the king vomited blood. They were on the floor shrugging. With his last strength, he tried turning his eyes to see his murderer for the very last time of his existence giving her a little smile. In his eyes, she had seen the deep sorrow he's been through. Her cold heart had gotten soft like how can this king feel thankful towards his murderer. Though she does not know the king had always been good but no, she has to remain the blade inside. She held the sword still until he closes his eyes, a sign that he is dead.

The blood from his chest spilt tracing the sword's blade dripping down to the stairs. Smell of blood spread throughout the hall. The queen who was just beside the king cannot believe what she had seen. Everything happened in a flash so as her tears went falling saddened by the immediate death of her husband.

The unknown woman still on her trance tightened her grip on the sword's handle and even buried it deeper down to the very flesh. Then her teeth grit as her two hands forcefully draws the sword out of the king's chest and swung it sharply into the air splashing the blood to different directions.

Outside the palace was still a revolution. People riot against the soldiers. Suddenly, they heard screams coming from the palace which they think the man had made it successfully inside the palace. At that moment, the people were uplifted. They still have the fighting chance. They still fought with the hope that the man whom they trust had succeeded the assassination.

The woman then took a stand and swung her coat back. She turned her eyes down to the king's eyes still open. She bended her knees and reached for the king's dead eyes and closed it lightly with her hands afloat. Her face has shown empathy towards the king for a moment. It is undeniable that the king had served their land in goodness. She has still some to thank the king. She made a sigh and silently bid him condolence.

She stood up and turned behind her. It is time for her to go and leave the palace. 'As an assassin, she should not make herself noticeable.'

The silence was deafening as it grows even soundless in the palace. The witnesses cannot say a thing from shrugging too much. The woman's surroundings were muted as she was sneaking away from the room. She can clearly hear her heart beating so fast. She was nervous. Killing a king can't clear her conscience after all.

Even so, she walked forward and headed to the man who ordered her for killing the king secretly. The man wants the people to believe that he is the one who assassinated the king. He then went up to the throne room and slowly went to the balcony to make the show convincing.

The kingdom's soldiers were lessened in number. Only few soldiers were present during the sneaky attack. By then, the noise was calmer so as they can clearly hear heavy footsteps inside the castle heading to the throne room's balcony. People felt with tension as their sweats slid down to their chin. Their eyes were on the balcony.

As the man was heading close to the balcony, people were already looking at him, they were expecting for him to step out. The people paused for a second. 'At last, the battle is over'.

Though a new ruler had succeed, the silence inside the palace is even louder. The cries, the guilt, the regrets - the king was a good ruler not until the power in his hands had gotten unbearable. After all, temptations can destroy a person.

A middle-aged man from the crowd raised his sword. From the way he acted, they can tell that the captain of the revolution is about to raise something. The crowd suddenly went silent as he boldly shouted, "ALL HAIL TO THE NEW RULER", and bowed down. The people followed him.

"ALL HAIL TO THE NEW RULER!" The people stood up raising the weapons they had and growled their loudest shout. "ALL HAIL, KING LUCAS!"

People continued celebrating in shouts until a lightning bolt split through the air. Dark clouds gathered altogether releasing lightning connecting to the ground. The sky grumbled and growled as if the heavens was angered. The shouts still continued.

Not long after that, a lightning seems to strike endlessly. The people were still shouting until they were disturbed by a largest lightning they have seen their whole lives followed by a banging sound of a thunder.

A strong wind suddenly circulated throughout the land as it aggressively blows the people on their feet. Suddenly, the skies became even darker and clouds gathered on top of the palace.

The people were confused to what was happening and turned their eyes around to see. Rolls of thunder and sudden lightning struck again. The clouds gathered even bigger and the skies were even darker. The skies again unleashed a loud thunder. More lightnings flash from a distant.

The people panicked and took shelter to the nearest house they could enter to. They were still observing from the inside until the skies slowly became calmer and clearer. The dark clouds scattered and the night skies became visible. There were no stars, a sign of a heavy rain to fall.

People had felt the darkness of the atmosphere, hearts burdened by fear as to what did just happen. They looked everywhere to see aftershocks of the happening. They had just witnessed an extraordinary event for the first time.

Raindrops fell little by little until it was followed by a hefty rainfall. It was again quiet in the palace.
