Meridian had finally fallen asleep. It was quiet in the house with only the ticking of the grandfather clock downstairs, but Meridian began to toss and turn in her sleep, moaning and mumbling. Her forehead was bubbling with sweat. Raina awoke and got out of her bed from the other side of the room, walked over to Meridian, and sat down next to her staring. With the guides gone to settle a score with Warrick, Meridian was in many ways alone. Raina did not say anything or attempt to wake her from her sleep. Instead, she sat and watched Meridian struggle.
