It seemed like fate was finally cutting her some slack. Celeste could hardly believe it. If she thought the castle grounds were crowded before, now they were swarming with people. Celeste never felt happier about having guests.

Lord Blackfriar was a scary man, tall, muscular, cold. He looked like he could snap a man's neck with his bare hands. Celeste put her apprehension aside as she entered the council room. Everyone was already there. The room was full of uncomfortable silence. It was rare that the lords were so quiet.

Celeste stopped in front of their new guest. For a few moments, the towering man and the young girl stared at each other. No matter how much she wanted to, Celeste didn't back down from the man's gaze. This was the first test, a show of strength. But Celeste had always been good at not blinking.

Lord Blackfriar blinked, breaking the spell. Then he bowed to her.

A part of her heart leaped with joy.

" I apologize for our tardiness," He said.
