After getting some proper rest and a decent meal, all of Rue's thoughts started to settle in.
She was slowly coming to the daunting realization of what her proclamation had meant.
She was a new Hunter. Someone that had recently become a powerful individual.
She was strong enough not to be hurt by swords, but she was nowhere near the level of the legendary Kai.
Not many people know how he rose to the top. It's pretty much a mystery everybody talked about. And everyone knows who he is.
Children have rhymes about him.
"Kai the Hunter will come for you in your sleep if you don't behave" is a classic children's song.
And she claimed that she wanted his head. She wanted to kill the strongest Hunter in the world. The man that literally hunted divine beings for sport.
Whenever your ambitions seem larger than life itself, focus on the small steps, she told herself. Little by little, you will reach those ambitions.
Goals are reached by winning small battles.
But at the very least, she wanted to see exactly how far away that goal was.
...................
Night city was surprisingly loud.
Music flooded the streets in waves of what the residents here called "Jazz".
It was a nice, ever-changing city of people filled with music under the night sky.
Rue enjoyed walking around the city, taking in the view, and enjoying the music.
As she was walking around, she saw a little girl playing alone with a ball.
The little girl was hugging the ball with a surprising amount of strength.
"Hey," said Rue.
"Hi"
"What's your name?"
"Ava"
"Hi Ava, I'm Rue," after a short pause, Rue asked. "Want to play?"
She looked at Rue with her bright, huge eyes. She had always done the asking. Never had she been asked.
"Yeah," she said.
Rue played some soccer with the girl until the girl had to leave.
..............................
She waved at her while the little girl was taken away by her grandmother.
"Let's play again, pretty lady," the little girl said.
"Sure," said Rue.
"I'm surprised to see the chosen one here leisurely playing soccer with the traitor's daughter," said a voice behind her.
Rue's muscled tensed, sensing the powerful aura of the man behind her. He had pretty much sneaked behind her.
Rue slowly moved to face the man behind her.
"Is it something that I'm not supposed to be doing?" she asked.
"I'm sure it is part of your destiny"
Rue turned around to face the man.
He was dressed in a suit and had the look of authority with him.
He smiled coldly at her, his sunken, yet alert brown eyes staring directly at her.
"And who might you be?" she asked.
"I am the minister of Night City," he said.
"And what does the minister of Night City want to do with me?" asked Rue.
"It's getting late, so let's leave it for tomorrow's RC. I'll be going to pick you up in 12 hours," he said.
All business, no bull.
"And why do I have to meet with someone so important? Aren't you busy or something?" she asked.
"Why yes, I am very busy, but that doesn't matter. You are of much greater significance. And you most definitively want to meet with me"
"Why's that?"
"Because I was told of the entire tower operation. Aren't you interested in knowing why you were locked up?"
Now Rue was finally interested.
.................................
The minister sent a huge bat to pick her up.
Yes, a huge bat. A bat with a carriage.
The bat actually flew well.
It really is a strange place.
Rue was taken on the bat and was left at the minister's mansion.
It was a big mansion, all in black, and mostly without roofs.
Two rooms had a noticeable roof.
Probably the only two rooms with a roof in the entire city.
Rue was escorted to the minister's office and left there to wait with some of the strange liquid of the city and some biscuits.
After waiting for a little while, the minister came into the room.
"These biscuits are really good," said Rue with a mouthful.
"Yes. Rob is a great chef" said the minister.
"Anyhow, how do you like Night City, chosen one?"
"It's a great place. Really pretty"
She really liked those biscuits huh, thought the minister.
"Anyway, how did you know where I was?" asked Rue.
"I felt you," he said.
"Felt?"
"When someone as strong as you are walking around my city, isn't it natural for me to know exactly where you are at all times?"
"So you followed me?"
"Something like that. Anyway, aren't you curious about your destiny?"
Rue now stopped eating.
"Yeah. Tell me about it so that I can ignore it"
The minister smiled at her conviction.
"You think you can escape your destiny?"
At this, Rue picked up a biscuit, broke it in half, and swallowed only half of it.
"I chose to eat only half of that biscuit. As long as I can choose how much of the biscuit I will eat, I make my own destiny" Rue said.
It was a compelling argument, he thought.
"But I don't know if I can avoid it if it's not a biscuit" Rue said.
