“Shit” muttered Louis.
"Just looking at his stupid face makes me feel sick," said a possessed Countess. It seems like the king was here to stay, thought Louis, until the king dropped the sword. And with it, the Countess regained consciousness.
She looked with fear towards Louis.
He breathed in and nodded.
She was going to be fine, he realized.
He thought that the king would take over her body, but it seems like she regained control.
“So useless,” said the king, as he watched his faithful knight fall in battle.
After a very audible sigh, the king got up himself.
“It seems like I am going to have to fight as well,” he said to all of them.
Not good, thought Louis.
We are about to fight the final boss and one of our companions is out of it. He would much rather fight with as many advantages as possible instead. But life isn’t that easy.
The king ignored them for now and walked towards the giant. He got close enough and touched his corpse. The giant’s body shined for a second, and suddenly the body disappeared.
On the hand that touched the corpse appeared a small hammer. The king twirled the hammer around and swung experimentally towards the party.
Louis, Lee and the Countess felt a gust of wind hit them with surprising force.
“What the hell was that?” asked Lee.
The king did not look weak at all, but he definitively did not look like he had the strength the giant had displayed.
Louis looked at his sword and looked at the hammer the king possessed in his hands. He now had a theory about what might have happened. It has to be something similar to what had happened to the first king. That would explain why the first king knew him.
“He can turn corpses into tools,” said Louis.
“What? How exactly would that serve any purpose?" asked Lee.
“What if the tool can keep the properties of the individual it used to be?” asked Louis.
“I don't get it”
“Basically, he can use the Giant’s strength with that small hammer,” said Louis.
“So if it touches us....”
“We basically die, yes,” said Louis.
While Louis was concerned with the current situation, he was more interested in how exactly the tyrant was managing this. Since he was a human that might have to directly fight Hunters in the future, having the ability to turn Hunters into items would be extremely good for him. If he could take that power for himself…
The tyrant did not let Louis finish his thoughts, as he immediately swung the hammer towards the floor. Cracks appeared in the area where the hammer hit, and the shock vibrated through the floor.
“I’m sorry about this, Countess, but it seems like round 2 is here. And we definitively need you for it,” said Louis.
The Countess struggled to understand the current situation, but she was getting better very quickly. She knew she had no time to let her head clear itself.
“Seems like it really is,” said the Countess.
…………………………………..
Kai sat idly on the sofa.
Another Hunter was requesting to live with him.
Kai was too busy to care anyway. Too busy dealing with his boredom to care.
“Sure,” he said nonchalantly.
He was used to Hunters asking if they could room with him.
He found it odd that they would. Hunters tended to live alone, but for some reason, many have always decided to stay with him. Even if he would kill their friends.
Of course, someone like Kai could never understand learning from the best of the best, since he was the best.
But that didn't matter to him. All he wanted was to do something. Today had been a very uneventful day.
He went to the diner, got himself something to eat, then decided to hang out with Res for a while, but she seemed extremely busy. He then decided to annoy Art, who was teaching Alex fighting skills. He watched for a little while, but then left seeing how serious they were.
“Maybe we should go to another layer in Epsilon again,” he said loudly.
He thought nobody was listening until Luna spoke through the communicator.
“As you wish, Captain”
“Luna stop spying on me. It’s kind of creepy” he said.
“Can’t help it. Just look at you. How can I not want to watch you for every single second of my life?”
Kai smiled. He still wasn’t used to being complimented this openly.
“But if we are going to the second level, we should avoid the Turk,” Luna said.
“Why’s that?” Kai asked.
“One of the new Hunters told us that they are gathering an army to try and fight us,” Luna said.
“Let’s go meet them then,” said Kai.
“Did you not listen to a single word I just said”
“Send them a notice too. I want them to bring everything they got”
“Yes Sir,” said Luna.
She just gave up. She knew she wasn’t going to convince him anyway. And besides, Kai is the strongest Hunter in the world. What can a strange race of desert lizards do to him?
