Let's Live A Little

"I saw the missing persons report this morning for Freddy and Monty." Mrs Porter informed me as she sat in my lounge the next morning. Ethan and Taylor were sitting in the lounge and having breakfast as well.

"The police station must be a complete mess then. Freddy and Monty missing without a trace and the Cremwell family being found dead in the junkyard is probably not the best image for the police right now but I'm sure they'll be able to put a positive spin on it." I leaned against the bookshelf while I watched them lounge on the couches. I just felt a little too nervous to sit down now. There was one part of my plan that still needed to be completed so hopefully it went smoothly.

"Are you waiting for something?" Taylor asked me then took a bite of her chocolate muffin. I noticed that she had a bit of a sweet tooth.

"Someone actually." I answered her.

"Did you invite someone else?" Ethan asked with his mouth full. He really was just a child despite being a teenager.

"No but if I know her then she should be arriving any moment now." At least that's what I hoped.

"So what's next?" Mrs Porter asked. She clearly wasn't one to play around.

"I'm going to take a bit of a break. I'm thinking 3 or 4 weeks." I honestly answered her.

"Why?" Her furrowed brows indicated that she definitely didn't understand my reasoning.

"It takes the heat off me and gives me time to observe the polices' response to everything that has happened. I want to see their next move as well. More importantly I guess, I just want to live a little. I definitely want to avenge my family but I think they just wanted me to be happy and live a life I can enjoy." I explained. The smile on her face agreed with my plan it seemed.

"So what are you going to do?" Ethan continued stuffing his face. That boy was just one bottomless pit.

"I have my inheritance and a few extra assets. I was thinking of investing the money in a few businesses." I informed them.

"Why don't you invest in my bar? I know only criminals use it but they still pay and it does make a lot of money." Mrs Porter suggested.

"Sounds like a good investment to me. I'll come around to the bar tomorrow and you can show me the financials then hopefully we can make a deal." That was a reasonable proposal right?

"Okay." She agreed as a furious knock on the door disturbed us. Everyone became silent as they turned towards me. I took a deep breath then made my way to the door and tried to be as calm as possible.

"Hey Elly." I greeted her once I opened the door. My false confidence instantly disappeared once I saw the terrifying scowl on her face along with her arms crossed over her chest. I knew from experience that her stance could only mean trouble for me.

"I knew it was you. I so knew it was you." She told me as she pushed me out of the way and entered the house.

"I didn't tell you that it wasn't me you know." I reminded her while I closed the door. "When did you figure it out though?"

"This morning at the precinct." I led her into the lounge where everyone else had a bit of a nervous look on their faces. I guess they didn't expect to see a police officer here this morning.

"Of course you'd be working with the Porters." Elly frustratedly pointed out then planted herself down on the open couch while I leaned against the bookshelf again.

"What is going on here?" Mrs Porter asked.

"That piece of shit played me, that's what's going on here." Elly answered her then stared at me.

"Mrs Porter meet Officer Elizabeth or Elly as I like to call her." I introduced them.

"You're lucky there's no evidence or else I would be locking you up myself." Elly threatened me.

"It's not my fault the police fell for the same trick you used to." I defended myself.

"What trick?" Taylor asked as she looked at me then Elly.

"He orchestrated that whole attack on the Cremwell's so that the police would be too busy to notice 2 of the men he named in his family's murder going missing." Elly answered her.

"That's not a trick really." Taylor stated.

"Exactly." I agreed. "I just took the opportunity that was presented."

"Whatever. Just tell me why you are doing this already." Elly instructed me.

"You know why. I just wanted you here to show you." I could see the confusion on their faces but everything would be explained soon. "Apparaître." I commanded then saw a television appear on a stand next to me.

"Just watch." I took the remote and pressed play.

The video showed my family's fateful night. The picture and sound quality could not have been better. I couldn't find it in me to watch it again though. I made my way to the opposite side of the room as I heard my mother's screams then my sister's as they dragged us down to the room I was standing in right now. On the right side of the screen I set up a list to identify the criminals once their identities were uncovered in the video to help everyone understand who did what. Once they finished killing my family, they began trashing the house. Captain Hutch was the one who found the camera while they searched for my parents work, I couldn't know for sure but that's the reason they were killed, then destroyed it and that's where the video ended.

"Why didn't you take this to the..."

"Police?" I cut Ethan off. "Captain Hutch, one of the men who carried out the murder of my family, runs the police station right now. The current mayor of this town was the one who ordered Mr Porter to organize the murder of my family."

"You could take it to the media. If enough people see this..." I stopped Elly as well.

"If this gets out then people will begin tearing it apart and think that I was framing those men. I could even get sued and locked up for Defamation of Character." I explained. "What do you think the public will say once they see that video? Do you honestly think this town will go against the police captain?"

"But... this is fucked up." I understood Elly's frustration all too well. I wrestled with it for years before I finally decided to do something about it.

"Look, I am not looking for anyone's sympathy or validation. I only showed you guys that video because I wanted you guys to know the truth." I informed them.

"So you killed Duncan Adams?" Elly asked.

"Yes." I confirmed.

"And Monty and Freddy last night. Ian Thompson dying over the weekend made things easier for you I suppose."

"I killed him too, well technically Mrs Porter did."

"He died of organ failure. It's a natural cause of death. It's not that uncommon for someone nearing 50."

"His organs failed because of the parasites I entered into his water supply. Once Mrs Porter activated them, they did their job and evaporated without leaving a trace." I informed her.

"So that's what that spell did." Taylor pieced it together. Her mother was suspiciously quiet next to her but I didn't think anything of it. If she had anything to say then no one could stop her from saying it.

"I want to help you." Elly told me.

"I don't need help and besides, you're a cop." I pointed out.

"Exactly why I can help you." She had a point there.

"My plan is already in action, no one can stop it."

"What about our partnership?" Mrs Porter finally spoke up.

"I don't need anything from you anymore but there are still things we could do together." I replied.

"Ew." Ethan's disgusted face clearly showed what he was thinking.

"Get your head out of the gutter idiot." I said then went over to him and hit the back of his head. "Like I said earlier though, I'm going to take a little break to enjoy life before I get back to avenging my family."

"You never had a life to begin with." Elly quickly quipped.

"This is my house you know, I can easily throw you out." My threat didn't even seem to faze her.

"By all means, give it a shot." She encouraged me.

"He can do it. His magic is pretty strong." Ethan informed her.

"That guy? Really?" Elly asked them as she pointed at me,

"I've seen him do a high level spell before." Mrs Porter was probably referring to the Fiery Dimension spell I activated when we first met.

"He can literally vanish on the spot. Like you can't sense him at all." Ethan added. "He even takes your magic away once you enter the house." That one I couldn't take credit for but it was mostly true.

"Fireball." Elly immediately tried to activate the spell. Nothing happened so she tried again but got the same result.

"And that's why I don't allow magic in my house. You people would burn it down." I pointed out.

"You played me again." Elly angrily figured it out then threw a cushion my way.

"I needed you to think that I was helpless so that you would give me the benefit of the doubt." I explained.

"You're still a piece of shit." Elly huffed before settling down. "So what other powerful spells can you do?"

"Are you seriously challenging me right now?" I raised my eyebrow as she confidently stared at me.

"I just want to see what you're really capable of for once." She knew that this side of her rubbed me up the wrong way. Her arrogance was irritating and I was never able to do anything to stop it when we were younger but right now was a different story.

"Okay." I calmly replied then snapped my fingers. I could feel it instantly draining a lot of energy but I still had over enough to use if I ended up in a sticky situation before my energy refilled. I saw that everyone in the lounge was unconscious and probably having the worst time of their lives. I decided to clean up a little while I waited for the spell to wear off.

I heard a shout from the lounge a couple of minutes later so I knew that they had woken up again. I walked back into the lounge with a steaming cup of tea in my hands while I took in their exhausted, sweaty states.

"You are... literally... the worst..." Elly couldn't even catch her breath as she spoke. They clearly went through something... traumatic.

"Now you know just how powerful I am." I replied then made my way over to the table in the lounge and grabbed a muffin. Ethan suddenly stood up then sprinted out of the lounge and went straight to the backyard. I immediately heard a splash as he jumped into the pool.

"What's gotten into him?" I asked them.

"You teleported us into a freaking volcano." Taylor informed me. I never had any control of where their minds ended up being transported into but I knew that it was something really bad.

"I teleported your minds into a volcano, your bodies were perfectly safe here with me." I corrected her.

"Yeah... well fuck you." Elly told me as she stood up and made her way to the kitchen.

"Are you okay Mrs Porter?" I asked the older woman.

"I'm just glad we're on the same side." She sounded out of breath as well but at least she was able to speak clearly.

"Here's to hoping it stays that way." I toasted my cup of tea as she nodded in agreement. All in all, my plan was complete for now. I could finally have a bit of fun and not worry about anything for a while and I was definitely looking forward to that.
