When Time Stood Still

I saw Cynthia and the others carve their initials into the hardwood of a support beam of the mill, I sighed softly trying to gather my courage and took a deep breath, and smiled "Hey! leave me some room there you guys!!" I shouted at the three, before smiling and running over to them and grabbing the knife and carving an M.P on the beam, before getting pulled into a group selfie by the one and only Cynthia. "Woah! this is the second selfie we're taking together haha!" I smiled and did a peace sign pose and chuckled as I looked at the three.

It honestly felt like time stood still during the selfie and I was left alone with my thoughts as I looked into the camera and wished that this never had to end, so I can spend an eternity with her. I sighed softly and hear the quick click of the camera and chuckled before looking at the three "What's next? fellas" I asked them happily as they stared at me before Austin replied to me "Why don't we head to the school? I think I know where the guards hide the keys, yknow? the ones to the pool!" he beamed and chuckled as I sighed "Maybe we can do this when I'm not driving my mom's car? I don't want it to be sopping wet and smell like chlorine" I chuckled at him and sat down near the edge of the balcony overlooking the mosh pit.

I sighed softly and took another sip out of the bottle I placed down and chuckled before shouting, "Hey guys! come on let's just watch the band! it's what we came here for right?" the three nodded and walked closer to the balcony, Ross and Austin talked and chatted while leaning on the balcony's edge, overlooking the pit below them, I pulled out my journal and doodled a picture of the concert going on, looking around for Cynthia when I was finished, I saw her sitting next to me.

I looked at her blushing and hid my face behind the journal again as she laughed before pushing the book down with her index finger "You don't always need to be so flustered when you're near me y'know?" she smiled and scooted closer to me before leaning on my shoulder as I noticed that she was getting a bit tired and poked her cheek gently "boop, hey Cynth? wanna bounce?" I asked her gently as she groggily nodded, I looked at the two boys "Hey. I'm gonna go ahead and take Cynthia, I'll see you on Monday" I smiled at lugged Cynthia back to the entrance and opened the car's backseat door before placing her in there as she slept soundly.

I pulled out of the parking lot slowly as to not wake her by making her drop onto the car's floor and sighed before driving to a nearby diner in town and parked it at the diner's parking lot. I walked out and sighed taking a whiff of the cold night's breeze before pulling out my phone and calling my mom, I stood there keeping an eye on the passenger I had sleeping in the backseat as my mother picked up 'Yes hun? do you need anything? should I pick you up?' I choked slightly and took a deep breath "Hey...mom? I sorta have a passenger in the backseat, you know the girl I liked?... she's the passenger..." all I could hear from her was a light chuckle.

I looked at my phone and sighed, being tired after the emotional roller coaster I've been through...in my head at least "Mom...I'm being serious right now, she got a bit too tipsy and fell asleep...so I thought she could stay...at our place" I blushed and covered my eyes "Before you say anything, can she stay or not?" I waited for my mom to answer, after a minute or two I heard her sigh softly before answering 'Yeah, she can stay under one condition, she stays in your room' I gripped my phone tightly as I took a deep breath and shyly said "F-Fine whatever..." I hung up the phone.

I leaned on the car's door and looked at her sleeping peacefully before smiling and whispering "What am I gonna do with you Cynth.." I chuckled as I opened the door and hopped back into the car and started to drive back to my house, slowly pulling into the driveway and turned off the car's engine as it stopped in front of the garage door, I opened the door and got out before opening the passenger's door and unbuckling her from the car seat and heaved her to the porch as I knocked and waited for someone to open.

I held my breath briefly, thinking it was just a dream, it felt like back at the mill where time stood still, it felt like we were alone, just me and her... it felt like I was floating on cloud nine again before a voice called out to me "Mel? you there sweetie?..." I snapped out and looked at her before going in and gently placed Cynthia on the couch before taking her shoes off and lifting her back up and laid her down on my bed gently and went back to the living room before looking at my mom, my face a blushing mess as I sat down and said "N-not..a s-single word..." as she looked at me almost grinning ear to ear as she sat in front of me, across the coffee table.

she sipped her drink and sighed softly and chuckled "So...that's her huh? the girl of your dreams? the one you like?" she teased me as I sat there blushing so bad my face looked like a ripe tomato, I sighed softly and looked her dead in the eyes "Stop teasing me... she's just a friend..." I said to her, trying to hide my true feelings as I stood up and walked back into the bedroom and started to change my clothes to the ones I usually wear to sleep, a band shirt and sweatpants, I sat on the edge of my bed and looked at her as I laid down next to her and blushed before brushing her warm orange locks behind her ears as I looked at her freckled face, her cheeks flushed red from the alcohol we drank, I smiled as I saw her sleep soundly before whispering "Goodnight...Cynthia..." I chuckled and fell asleep,
