The Private Doctor

Ava was so scared that her face turned white, she was sweating and gasping for air. There was a lot of blood around her, the smell of blood and rust was making her sick to the stomach and She was feeling suffocating. She saw the woman was coming closer bit by bit trying to catch her as if determined to take Ava with her underground.

Ava started to scream, "It's not me, I didn't do anything... I didn't do anything."

Her shouts woke Oliver up and he looked at her in shock, Ava was struggling in the bed as if someone was trying to choke her, she was covered in sweat and her face was pale. Oliver realized she was having another nightmare. He quickly shook Ava's shoulder to wake her up.

"I beg you, let me go, I didn't do anything. Please don't hurt me." Ava was crying in her dream and the tears were running from the corner of her eyes.

"Ava! Wake up.. wake up... It's OK, no one will hurt you, you're just having a nightmare." Oliver's gentle voice brought Ava back from her nightmare.

Ava opened her eyes and grabbed Oliver's warm hand tightly, she tried to sit up, she was still crying and breathing heavily. She looked at Oliver confusedly then she remembered the terrible nightmare she just had. She felt so scared that she threw herself on Oliver's arm as if looking for a sense of security. She wanted to feel his warmth but somehow for the first time, she felt uncomfortable in his embrace, as if she didn't belong here with this man.

Oliver was patting Ava's back and shoulder gently to comfort her, he could still see the fear in her face. A trace of guilt flashed in his deep eyes. He shouldn't have said those things to her about the locked room before going to bed, that must have frightened her. It was just a joke but he didn't realize it would affect her to this extent.

"Had a nightmare?" After a while when Ava calmed down Oliver asked gently.

Ava nodded, her clear eyes were mixed with a trace of forbearance and uneasiness.

"Don't worry, there is nothing in the house I was just joking with you. Don't think about it. Go back to sleep, OK!" Oliver said reassuringly.

"Than what is in that room?" Ava knew there was no dead body but somehow she had an uncomfortable feeling about that room as if whatever was in that room, was there to destroy her. She couldn't shake off that uncomfortable feeling so she asked him again.

Oliver's face got hard, he couldn't tell her what was in that room, he said indifferently, "If you really want to know you will have to marry me."

Saying that Oliver didn't let Ava say anything else, he took her in his arm and lie down on the bed to sleep.

The next few days were peaceful and Ava didn't have any other nightmare. They both had busy times during the day and harmonious times in the evening.

One beautiful morning, the sun was shining and there was a smell of flowers in the breeze, Ava walked out of the villa and drove to the hospital.

Beijing Tiantan Hospital

Dean's office.

Ava was sitting on the sofa with a serious face. When she came in today Director Brown told her that Dean Davis wanted to see her. Ava was a bit confused why all of a sudden the Dean was looking for her, so after the morning meeting, she went straightway to Dean's office.

"Dr. Green, what would you like to drink?" Dean Davis asked with a kind smile.

Although he was always very kind to Ava still she felt a bit uncomfortable looking at him, she smiled and said, "I am good, thank you, Dean Davis. Why were you looking for me?"

"Dr. Green, there is nothing to be nervous about. Do you remember you operated on Mr. Michael Jones, the GM of Knight International about a month ago? Dean Davis asked thinking Ava probably didn't remember him as she does a lot of operation every day.

"Yes!" Ava answered with a blank face. How could she forget Michael Jones especially when she was in a live-in relationship with his nephew!

"Well, then you probably know he got discharged from the hospital a few days ago but you can understand it takes time to recover from heart disease. His heart condition is still very critical so Mr. Jones requested you to be his personal doctor until he fully recovered. He was very satisfied with your treatment and only trust you to be his private doctor." Dean Davis said with a serious face.

Although in this hospital they don't refer doctors to be anyone's private doctor unless it's their own choice but Oliver knight just invested in the hospital a few days ago he didn't want to offend him by refusing his uncle. So he opened the terms clearly in front of Ava.

Ava looked at the Dean dumbfounded, she definitely didn't see this coming. In fact, she discharged Michael Jones early so she wouldn't have to have any more contact with him. She figured as he had already recovered quite well, bed rest at home would do the rest but now he asked her to be his personal doctor. She didn't want to be Michael Jones's personal doctor. How would she get out of this one and what would she say to Oliver? Ava felt a headache.

"I.. Dean David can't it be someone else?" Ava asked hesitantly. She didn't want to refuse the Dean on his face.

"Why? Do you have any problem to be his personal doctor, Dr. Green? You don't have to visit him often, once a week will do. You can manage that right?" Dean Davis asked kindly.

Ava quickly shook her head and said, "No, Dean, I don't have any problem it's just I feel that there are more qualified and experienced doctors available to be Mr. Jones Private doctor as he is an important person. Although I did his operation successfully but I am still not experienced enough to be his personal doctor. Maybe you should let Director Brown do it"

Dean Davis thought for a while then said: "I understand what you said Dr. Green and I do agree with you but Mr. Jones specifically asked for you and as you operated on him it's natural that you are more familiar with his condition. So I have faith in you. You can do it." Not knowing Ava's reason to refuse, Dean Davis who thought Ava was refusing because of her lack of confidence, he tried to encourage her.

Ava didn't know what could she tell the dean for him to let her off, she was still searching her brain to find a reasonable excuse to refuse the job.

Dean Davis saw the hesitation in Ava's face, he didn't want to force her but he didn't want to make Oliver Knight angry either so he kept pursuing her. What confused the dean most was he was sure there was something going on between Oliver and Ava, in that case why she was refusing? Shouldn't she be eager to take care of his family?

"Dr. Green I understand you must be very busy with outpatients and the regularly scheduled operations but I am sure you can talk to Mr. Jones and fix a flexible time to check on him it's just once a week. It will be a good experience for you and you will also have good pay. I suggest you think about it."

Ava saw there was no way out so she agreed. "Thank you Dean Davis for trusting me so much, I will talk to Mr. Jones."
