Guilty Conscious

Ava looked at Oliver's sad face, she also felt sad, "In that case, Mrs. Lee's life is very pathetic."

"In her normal day-to-day life, she remembers everything and usually doesn't have much problem, it's just the traumatic past she seems to mix up sometimes. Like did she ever tell you that she had a 17-year-old daughter with leukemia?" Oliver drove the car steadily and said with a small smile.

Ava nodded and said, "Yes, she did."

"I have talked to a doctor about her condition and found out that it was due to the trauma she suffered in the different stages of her life she had developed this memory disorder. In fact, experts from Switzerland said that there is a possibility that in about three years, Mrs. Lee will completely forget everything about her past." Oliver explained seriously. He had appointed a specialist to check on Mrs. Lee every 6 months so she didn't develop any other brain problems.

"Oliver, Mrs. Lee mentioned that you saved her from the accident?"

"Yes, I found her after the accident and took her to the hospital which actually saved her life. However, I wasn't able to save her husband and son." Oliver's face looked indifferent, but his heart was very heavy. Yes, he was able to save Mrs. Lee but like her husband and son, he couldn't save the person who was so important to him.

Hearing about the accident Ava's eyes dropped, remembering the terrible accident that changed her life forever. Although she was lucky enough to be alive but she lost the most important person of her life.

It was indeed fate that brought both Ava and Oliver together, they both were grieving the same loss without even knowing. If only they could open up their heart to each other then both of them would get relief from the pain they have been carrying deep inside their heart for years.

Beijing Tiantan Hospital.

Ava was distracted after hearing about Mrs. Lee from Oliver. When she got into the hospital elevator her phone made a sound, she took it out and saw it was a notification from her circle of friends. She suddenly thought of Sam and decided to ask him to meet. She needed to talk to Sam about Erika.

Ava: Hey, can we meet today at noon.

Sam: OK, I'll be there at your hospital.

Mia was at the nurse station. She looked a bit restless, looking at her phone every minute. When she saw Ava was coming she quickly put her phone back into her pocket.

Ava came to the nurse station with a smile and said in a teasing tone, "What are you hiding Mia? Are you chatting with someone special? "

"No, what are you talking about Ava. I was just playing games on the phone but since our director is here how can I continue to play?" Mia said with a forced smile. Although Mia's heart was beating drums inside her chest but she easily lied.

"It's alright, it's still early and there are not too many patients here." Ava patted Mia on the shoulder and said with a smile then head toward her office.

When Mia saw Ava leaving, she slumped on her seat as if she had suddenly lost all her strength. Tonight, Kiara had asked her to go shopping with her. Mia refused at first because she really didn't want to go with her, but Kiara was insisting saying that she was very bored and there was no one to accompany her shopping. In a weak moment, Mia felt bad for her and agreed to her request.

Ava took a few steps and suddenly remembered her plans with Sam at noon, so she decided to inform Mia in case she waited for her at lunch.

Ava turned back to the nurse station and said, "Mia, I have something to do at noon so I won't be having lunch with you today. Don't wait for me. OK!"

Mia was distracted thinking about her and Kiara's appointment tonight, Ava's sudden voice stunned her and she froze in place for a moment. After a while, she recovered and said slowly, "OK. "

"Mia, what's wrong with you? Are you feeling ok? Your face looks pale." Ava asked anxiously.

"I'm fine. Maybe it's because of my period." Mia said lightly. She was so tense that a cold sweat breakthrough her back.

"OK! You wait here." Ava frowned and walked away.

She went into the tea room and made a cup of brown sugar and ginger water for Mia. It was a great medicine to relieve pain for period cramps. Although Ava never suffered from it, but like a woman and a doctor she could understand how difficult it could be.

"Drink it, it won't work if it's cold." Ava came to Mia and gave her the ginger water.

Mia raised her eyes and looked at Ava, she was moved by the simple gesture. She started to feel very guilty toward Ava, her friendship with Ava was more important than money to her. She suddenly had the urge to call Kiara and tell her that she wouldn't be able to help her anymore and return the money, however, her father's health was getting worse every day, if she gave up the money she wouldn't be able to save her father. Mia suddenly felt trapped in an endless abyss.

"Thank you, Ava." Tears were almost coming out of Mia's eyes.

"Mia, you don't have to thank me, we are friends. Come on drink it quickly." Ava patted her back and said with a smile.

Mia opened her mouth to say something when a patient's family member came over, "Director Green!"

Ava turned her head with a smile and said, "Hello, Mrs. Wang."

"Director Green, do you have some time to talk to me right now?"

"Well, I have to attend the morning meeting at this moment. After the meeting, I'll do the rounds so I'll be there in Janiya's ward later." Ava looks at her watch and saw it was almost eight o'clock.

"OK, thank you." The woman said with a smile and left.

Ava walked toward her office and put on a clean white coat. Working at the hospital, Ava had a routine life. After the morning meeting, she does her rounds and checked on the patients, then she went to the OT to do her scheduled operations. In between whenever she had little time she would think of Oliver and every time she thought of him she would miss him very much. Ava didn't know whether to be scared at that or be happy. She could tell that her feeling toward Oliver was getting stronger every day, but she couldn't help it.
