Mind of a child

Sarah closed her notebook, she had already finished her homework. After another week, the school will start again, and then she will be in her senior year. She was excited and stressed at the same time, although her performance at school has always been the best but that didn't make her relax even for a second. She was well aware of her family situation which she didn't have any control over, what she could control was her study. To make her own footing in this society she must study hard and be at the top at everything. Only that way she could suppress her dark family background.

"Ava, what's going on between Erika and Mr. Evan? How did they know each other?" Sarah suddenly asked curiously. The whole day she had been very curious about this but she had to wait until now to ask about it.

"Once Rika got mugged on the street and Sam rescued her purse, that's how they met each other."

"OK. Then why did you pretend not to know Mr. Evan?"

"Well, it's a bit complicated. When Rika first told me that she liked someone I didn't know it was Sam. Later when I found out, to avoid complications I told her I didn't know him. Now I am stuck with this lie and involving more people in it. If I knew before this would happen then I would have told her the truth. Sam and I are just friends there is nothing disrespectful between us, so I shouldn't have lied to her." Ava suddenly felt distress thinking if Erika found out the truth someday, she will surely hate her. She just didn't want Erika to have any suspicion like Oliver so she lied at that time.

"I think Erika likes Mr. Evan very much. She even asked the abbot to calculate their marriage and at the restroom when I told her that Mr. Evan liked plain women she immediately removed all her makeup." Sarah said with a surprised look on her face.

"Well, I think so too," Ava said with a smile but she wondered, if Arvin was not engaged to Jessica, would Erika really notice Sam?

"I guess when you fall in love with someone, it just makes you unreasonable and crazy," Sarah said absentmindedly.

Hearing Sarah, Ava's eyes brightened up, thinking does Sarah have someone in her heart, otherwise, how did she knew how it felt when someone was in love?

"Sarah, do you have someone you like?" Ava asked cautiously.

Sarah got flustered she quickly said, "No, I don't. Sis, you know me I don't have time for boys I am busy with my study and college entrance exam."

Even if she had someone in her heart she couldn't match his status and family background so she didn't want to think about him. She just wanted to concentrate on her study.

Ava caught the flustered look on Sarah's face but before she could ask about it her phone start to ring, it was Oliver. Ava who was almost drowsy woke up completely seeing the call. A wide smile showed up on her face and she held the phone as if she was holding some treasure in her hand. She got more comfortable on the bed before taking his call.

Sarah saw Oliver called she was relieved but seeing Ava's reaction she shook her head thinking her sister was head over heels in love with Oliver. She quickly got up and left the room, she had no desire to get tortured by her cousin's love talk.

"Hey baby, what are you doing?" Oliver said in his deep voice, he was in his car.

He was very tired, he hasn't recovered from his jetlag yet and has been crazy busy with meetings after meetings. Only one contract had been signed so far and two more big negotiations needed to be done within this week. Today he also needed to fly to Los Angeles to deal with one negotiation.

"Nothing, just lying on the bed and resting." Ava gently rubbed her temple and closed her eyes, she felt relaxed.

"Well, you should go to sleep. You are so fragile, I am surprised that you didn't have a heatstroke today." Oliver said teasing her.

"I'm not that vulnerable, beside The Fragrant Hill is cold in summer. So the weather was very nice up in the mountain today. How are you doing?"

"Busy. I just signed one contract today and now I'm flying to Los Angeles to deal with another." Oliver rubbed his temples, he had a headache.

Business is very tiring, no wonder his father put all the responsibility on his shoulder and retired so early. He remembered Conner used to be this tired too when he was the CEO of Knight International. Oliver would like to do the same, he would have a son with Ava immediately and let his son take over the family business from him.

"Oliver, it's hard on you," Ava said with heartache. He has been working so hard.

"I am ok. I have to work hard to support my wife." Oliver smiled and touched the gift box beside him, his heart felt warm thinking of the deer brooch he brought for Ava.

"Oliver I wanted to talk to you about something," Ava said in a soft voice.

"What is it?" Oliver's eyes narrowed slightly, he knew from her tone that the woman was up to something.

"I want to go back to work from tomorrow. It's boring to stay at home besides, I'm the director of my department. It's really not good for my image to ask for leave all the time."

"Who would dare to say anything to you?"

"I know no one will say anything to me but I have a responsibility toward my patients. I cannot stay home and avoid seeing my patient just because I had a simple heatstroke. Moreover, my scheduled operations are piling up. If I have to take care of all of them together I'll get even more tired. I have had enough rest yesterday so I want to go back to work."

Oliver was silent for a while then he sighed and said helplessly, "You are a workaholic, you know that right!"

"Yes, I'm aware of that, but what can I do. I like to work and I am a responsible person." Ava said proudly.

"Yes, yes you are. Fine, you can go back to work." Oliver shook his head and a smile hung in the corner of his lips.

"Thank you. You are so kind Mr. Knight." Ava said with a sweet smile.

"I've always been kind." The smile on Oliver's face got wider, his woman learned to compliment him. He was over the moon.

Ava heard the excitement in Oliver's tone and laughed feeling helpless. Some people say every man had a mind of a child. Today Ava believed it completely through Oliver's reaction.
