Unfinished business

Erika stared at Arvin and looking at his lifeless face she suddenly started to feel suffocated. She grabbed Ava's hand and asked with a pale face, "Av's, how is Arvin doing?"

"Rika, I am sorry but his heart is failing. We tried our best but he slipped into a coma. We have no idea if he will ever wake up again." Ava said with a sad face.

"What did you say? How is it possible? He is such a nice guy, how could he die just like that? Arvin, you're joking, aren't you? This isn't funny, come on get up quickly. Please don't do this!" Erika started to pull Arvin's hand as tears ran down her cheek. She didn't care about her image at that time, all that matter to her was Arvin.

"Rika, calm down. Arvin just had an operation and he is still unconscious. You cannot move him like that, his stitches will tear open." Ava said softly as she pulled Erika away from Arvin. She wanted to make things more realistic for Erika to believe that, Arvin was really dying.

"Ava, please I beg you. Save him. He is so young. How can he die? Please do something." Erika started to cry hysterically.

"Erika we tried our best but he seemed to have lost his will to live, so no matter how we tried his heart wouldn't respond. I am really sorry. We will be putting him into a room now if you have any last words you can say to him." Looking at Erika Ava's eyes also turned red and she said in a choked voice.

Erika was an actress, this kind of scene she had performed a thousand times but she never thought even in her dream that one day she will face something like that in her real life. Moreover, the person she was about to lose was actually Arvin! Yes, she was angry with him for hurting her but she never hoped for him to die like that. If he really left then Erika's life will be worse than death. She really loved him.

At that moment Mia came and said calmly, "I'll take the patient to the room now."

Erika wiped her tears and walked with Mia toward the private VIP room. Oliver and Ava also followed. Oliver helped to lift Arvin and put him on the bed. Erika just stood there not knowing what to do and how to react, she felt lost, she kept crying.

Ava silently walked to Erika and gently patted her shoulder and said, "Rika, I'm sorry, I've really tried my best to save his life. If he didn't respond to the treatment at all, we might have to declare him clinically dead."

"Ava, what are you saying? Arvin was a healthy person, how can his heart fail just like that and how can you say he might never wake up? If it's the heart then do a transplant but please save him." Erika suddenly fell on the floor as she looked at Ava with pleading eyes, She looked miserable.

Ava swatted down and hugged Erika, "It's not as easy as you think Rika. Don't you think if it was possible, I would have already tried it? For a heart transplant, we need to have a heart that matched him. I am sorry but it's too late."

"Then find another way. I heard you can freeze a body and keep someone alive. Do that until you find a heart that matched his." Erika felt very desperate at that moment to save Arvin. She felt like she would go to any extent to save him and bring him back to life.

"Rika, there is no such thing in medical terms. There might be some doctors who claim to do such things but those are experiments, there is no conclusive evidence for freezing a body and keeping it alive. And even it was possible abroad, right now it's impossible here in China."

"So you will just let him die? Just like that?" Erika felt very distressed.

"Sorry," Ava said hugging Erika more tightly trying to comfort her.

"Rika, I know you're very sad now, but you can't change what has already happened. Arvin was my only best friend, like you, I am also losing my best friend and I am also in pain but we can't do anything but accept the reality." Oliver pulled Erika from the floor.

"No, I can't accept it. This cannot be happening. He will wake up... I know he will... he can't leave just like that. Miracles happen all the time in this world. Maybe he will wake up tomorrow."

Erika was not willing to accept that Arvin was dying. She just saw him yesterday, how could he die today. At that moment Erika really regretted what she said to him yesterday, maybe it was because of her words Arvin lost the will to live. Erika started to blame herself for Arvin's condition at that moment.

"In that case, you can only pray for a miracle," Ava said calmly.

Erika closed her eyes and tears started to flow down her cheek again.

Suddenly, the private room became deathly silent, Mia tidied up everything and left the room silently. Ava and Oliver stayed there for a few more minutes then made an excuse and left Erika with Arvin alone. Erika wiped the tears, walked beside Arvin's bed, and sat down quietly. Looking at his pale and bruised face she felt a heartache. Why didn't she forgive him? If she did, would this happen today? Would he leave just like that? No, she can't accept that. Arvin can't leave just like that, they have an unfinished business.
