Midsummer Night Dream

After breakfast, Oliver went to his office. Like a good wife, Ava walked him to his car. She stayed home the whole morning and watched TV, but soon she started to feel tired. Ava lay down on the couch and closed her eyes to take a nap but suddenly her phone made a "Ding Dong" notification noise. Ava opened her eyes and took the phone to check. It was her microblog update about the "Midsummer Night Dream" piano competition.

The preliminary selection has been completed. Although this year's contestants had some strength, but none of them had any extraordinary ability, so the judges are still looking for contestants and the final Competition has been postponed for five more months, so that they can find someone who was outstanding and could play some inspiring music.

This was the first time in many years the piano competition has been postponed, so the whole microblog was bursting with comments. Ava unconsciously clicked on the comments and start to read everybody's opinions and thoughts. However, her finger froze seeing a comment.

"Where is Ava Green, the last gold medal champion?

Ava's clear eyes all of a sudden covered by a mist. She rubbed her eyes and started to read more comments. She was very surprised to see that many netizens actually remembered her and they were mentioning her name everywhere. How did so many people still remember her?

In the last competition, Ava was so young, she just started her sophomore year in high school. She was the youngest gold medal winner of "midsummer night's dream" in history.

Seeing all those comments Ava became very inspired and suddenly something moved in her. She instantly decided to participate in the competition.

"Mrs. Lee, Mrs. Lee!" Ava called out excitedly,

"Yes Madam, do you need something?" Mrs. Lee rushed out of the kitchen wearing her apron.

"Mrs. Lee, I want to go to a Piano shop to buy one. Please come with me." Ava said decisively with a confident smile.

"Madam, I'm making the custard tarts that you like. In ten minutes, it will be ready. Can we wait for 10 minutes?" Mrs. Lee asked with a smile.

"OK."

Suddenly the doorbell rang loudly in the living room and Mrs. Lee quickly opened the door.

"Hello, I am Liam, Oliver's cousin. Is Ava here?" Liam said in his deep voice as he looked inside.

"Yes, Madam is here. Please come in." Mrs. Lee heard Oliver's cousin, she quickly moved from the door and let Liam in.

Liam walked inside elegantly carrying a lot of big and small bags in his hand. He saw Ava sitting in the living room, he came straight to her, put down all the bags on the coffee table in front of her, and sat down comfortably at the opposite.

Ava stared at Liam then looked at the bags on the table puzzled.

"Liam, what are you doing here and what are all these?" Ava asked coldly.

Liam shrugged and said with a charming smile, "It's your wedding gift. I didn't get a chance to give them to you at the wedding so I got them for you here today."

"I am sorry but I can't accept all these, please take them back." Ava refused politely. She didn't know why but whenever she saw Liam she had an uncomfortable feeling in her heart. She was sure Oliver also wouldn't want her to take these from him.

"Ava do you always have to be so heartless? You are married to Oliver, we are family now. And by relation, I am your brother-in-law then why can't you accept wedding gifts from me?" Liam leaned on the sofa more comfortably as if this was his own home and said feeling a bit upset.

Ava stared at him not knowing what to say. What Liam said was true and she really didn't have any reason to refuse wedding gifts from him but she still was not comfortable taking anything from Liam, she felt like he had a purpose for coming here today.

"Are you really here to give me all these?" Ava asked suspiciously.

"Of course, what else I'll be here for? I brought all new winter collection dresses for you, you won't find them anywhere in China yet." Liam said with a smile.

"Thank you but I already have enough dresses in my closet, I don't need new ones. Please, Liam, take them back." Ava still refused to take them. Although Oliver and Liam were brothers, but they were like enemies and she should not accept gifts from him.

"Ava, you are making me angry now! Why can't you take them?" Liam looked at Ava and asked angrily.

Ava bit her lips uncomfortably then smiled and said, "OK, then tell me, why did you bring them for me?"

A playful smile showed up on Liam's face and he said, "What if I say I want to win your heart?"

Ava stared at him speechless then said coldly, "Then there is more reason for me not to accept them."

Liam's eyes sank and his body became stiff for a second but he quickly composed himself and said in an easy tone, "Relax, I was joking, these are really wedding gifts for you. I also would like to thank you for being my father's personal doctor and taking care of my heart condition. So if you don't want to take them as a wedding gift take them as thank you."

Although Ava knew Liam was a cunning man but his words still made her feel a bit embarrassed, she said softly, "That's my job and that's what I should do. But Liam you know, your heart condition, you can't smoke or drink."

Liam looked at Ava with complicated eyes for a while then said in a low voice, "Even if I die, that won't affect anyone so I might just die."

"What nonsense are you talking?" Ava said with a frown. She didn't like people talking about death. Being able to be alive was a blessing, then how could Liam talk like that?

"Why? Will you be sad if I die?" Liam asked earnestly, as he looked at Ava with his bright eyes.

"What kind of question is that? I am not going to answer you."

Liam lowered his head and his eyes were a little lost. He said in low voice, "I knew you wouldn't answer,"

Ava looked at Liam and silently observed him. He was very handsome not like Oliver but he was not any less either. He has everything anyone could ask for, family, money, a job, a comfortable life. He should be living a lively and satisfying life, then why he was always so depressed? She suddenly felt pity for him.

"Are you free? I want to buy a Piano, can you accompany me?" Ava stood up and asked changing the subject.

"Of course," A broad smile showed up on Liam's face as he quickly said, even though he was very busy today.

Although Liam was the general manager of Knight international, but Oliver never let him do any important work, so he doesn't have anything to do at the company. However, today he had a very important meeting that his father wanted him to attend. Looks like he will have to find an excuse why he couldn't be there.
