A Tough Discussion

Brad and I drive to the park by 5pm and we wait for my Mom to arrive.

"Babe?"

"Yes Brad?"

"What are you going to tell her?"

"About?"

"Me."

"I'm going to tell her the truth. Telling the truth is the only way this can be solved properly."

"Yeah but, she doesn't have to know."

"Is my bad boy afraid of my Mom?"

"Oh please, why would I be scared of your Mom?"

"I should ask you that question."

"I'm not afraid."

"You know the Eminems huh?"

"Really baby?"

I giggle then I kiss his cheek.

"Is that her?" He asks pointing to a blonde lady in a casual wear.

"Yeah, that's her. You ready bad boy?"

"I'm no bad boy in front of your mom, are you nuts?!"

"It's going to be fine. Just be you, okay?"

"Okay baby."

"Okay, let's go."

The both of us then head to where Mom is and I hug her.

"Mommyy!"

"Oh, my sweetheart," she looks at Brad and lets go of me, "who is this?"

I get back to Brad and put my arm around his. "Mom, this is Brad, my boyfriend."

"Your what?! Let go of my daughter right now-"

"Mom! We are not here for this."

"How could you date a boy behind my back?"

"Because if I told you before, Dad would've known."

Mom becomes silent.

"E-Excuse me, Ms. Luck."

Mom looks at Brad.

"Y-Your daughter told me what has been happening in the home when she ran away and I decided to let her stay at my place-but she slept on the bed while I'm on the floor."

"I see."

"I know how special your daughter is but what her Dad has been doing to you and her, you both don't deserve it. I suggest you call the police and let them handle it-"

"Brad no," I but in, "me and Mom can solve this without getting the police involved."

"But Babe, you don't know if he'd hurt you guys again and I certainly don't want that to happen to any of you."

"Ashley, I have to agree with Brad. The police can help," Mom concludes.

"I don't want the police to be involved," I say like I'm demanding.

"Why sweetie?"

"I just don't want them to be involved okay. We can solve this ourselves. And how? You're going to have to leave him Mom, period."

Mom becomes silent once again.

"Mom you have to. I can't take it anymore and I know you can't either."

"....I can't leave him.."

"What do you mean you can't leave him?! Yes you can!"

"NO I CAN'T!!"

The setting now becomes silent after that until I speak.

"Why? Why can't you?"

"Because.....I don't want his aggression turns on the both of us to a point where one of us might die."

"Are you saying, he's going to kill one of us if you leave him?!"

"That's what he said..."

"Don't worry about it Ms. Luck, I can help," Brad comes in.

"How?"

"When he is attempting an attack on any of you, I'll beat the crap out of him and drive him away."

"Brad are you sure about that? Isn't he going to know you're my boyfriend when you show up?" I ask worryingly.

"It shouldn't matter because we're going to take him out of your guy's lives. So that's nothing."

"I'm....not sure.-"

"Please Ashley, I only want to help because I care. About you and your mother. You two don't deserve this abuse at all."

Mom smiles and I look at Brad as I start to worry.

Brad then kisses my forehead and says, "it's going to be okay. I promise."

"....."

"What do you think I'm going to do?"

I remain silent.

"Baby, I already promised that I won't do that. And I mean it."

"Don't do it Brad-"

"I'm only going to back him off. That's it."

"Swear?"

"I swear baby."

"Okay. I'm counting on you Brad."

Brad nods and then when I turn to Mom, she wasn't there. I look and see Mom already on her way going back home.

"M-Miss Luck. I can drive you guys there?"

"No need for that boy, I really appreciate the offer but I'll just walk-"

"I insist."

"Yeah, I'm with Brad. Come on Mom," I say cheering on Brad while making a fool out of myself.
