The girls had continued to walk, after a couple of days they had finally stumbled upon a village. The village had a fence made of wood all around it. Easy to see since the village wasn't the biggest.
"Nel look! There's a village!"
"Thats great news, lets try going in."
The girls walked around the village at a distance looking for an entrance. They soon found the entrance and started walking. Nel looked down at the ground closely while walking and soon realized something.
The ground is full of gravel, dirt, and ashes?
"Nel, we close to the entrance now, look up now. It looks a bit suspicious if you keep looking down..." Aiel said in a whisper.
Nel looked up and as they walked closer they were greeted by two people.
Guards?
"State your business. Who are you?" One of the men said in a stern tone. "Where are you coming from?" The other man said while glaring at both girls.
Nel looked at their hips, there were swords at their waist yet they had not pointed it at them.
This means they don't feel threatened by us. Good.
"Im sorry. I don't know where I'm from but, my name is Aiel and her name is Nel. We've been trying to find a village or city since there is so many wild animals out there." A guard nodded in agreement, "It is true, they're very dangerous at that." "But do tell us, why should we let a stranger like you enter our village? How do we know you two don't mean harm to us?" He now started to glare intensely at the girls, "how do we not know that you're the enemy." He was now putting his hand on the handle of the sword. Nel held Aiel's hand in fear. "Nel, push" Aiel whispered to Nel. Nel looked at Aiel in confusion.
What does she mean push???
Aiel put her hand on her stomach and looked at Nel. Nel now realized what Aiel meant, but what does that prove??? Nel looked at Aiel for another hint but her facial expression stayed stiff looking at the men. Nel did what she said.
Does she want me to poop myself here?
Nel started to be more and more confused a she kept thinking of it. Then she felt something, panic had settled in.
Wait, wait! The cotton!! No more! The rest is in the bag!
Soon blood poured down her leg, visible to Aiel and the men. Their clothing was nothing more than just a plain shirt and a skirt with low length boots. "W-what's wrong with her!" One of the men said. Nel quickly squatted and hugged her knees, trying to hide the blood while also making a pained expression. Aiel just looked at her with a panicked face, of course pretending. One of the female villagers was looking at the commotion from afar and rushed over. "You fools! She's obviously on her menstrual cycle! She's obviously in pain! How would they be a dangerous to us!" The woman shouted. The woman soon called over another woman and said to get a blanket, presumably to hide the blood that was dripping on Nel's leg. Aiel soon really started to worry as Nel hadn't looked up at her.
Does really hurt?? Is she okay??
The lady helped Nel up and started walking with her. "Lets go to my house, it seems you don't have anything. I'll house you girl's in exchange for some help." Nel looked at Aiel and nodded. "Thank you ma'am! We'll do our best to help you!" As they kept walking Aiel looked around, there were houses but, they were small? Rue looked around, a lady with four children, a couple with four children, a man with three children, another couple with five children.
I'm surprised.. such small houses fitting many children.. what happens when they grow up?
Aiel stopped looking around and instead started looking ahead and soon all three women stopped at some stairs. The lady looked at Aiel and soon Aiel rushed over to make sure Nel wouldn't stumble on the stairs and walking inside. The lady guided them inside, the house looked nicely decorated, it wasn't poor looking by any means but didn't look wealthy either. Aiel noticed a cat statue and snake statue.
How weird.
"Excuse me, you did say you would house us, in exchange what do we do?" Nel asked the lady who was making her way to another room. Aiel was sitting next to Nel still having stiff shoulders, Aiel moved her legs to the left side while she was looking at Nel. Moments later the lady came back with some coffee. She brought three cups and set them on the table, looking at the girls as if saying 'let's drink them'. Aiel grabbed the cup on the lady's side of the coffee table and handed it to Nel. Then she grabbed Nel's cup for herself. The lady grabbed the cup on Aiel's side of the coffee table and started drinking it. "Sorry I may have stalled the conversation of the agreement so you would have time to relax." The lady smiled. "In exchange for you two living here you can help me with my chores, one of you is enough to help. My children have left my house to live with their spouses." The lady said as she was sipping her coffee. "How many children did you have?" Aiel asked the lady out of curiosity. "I had six." Aiel and Nel looked at her stunned. The house looked small, where could she fit all her children? "You may be wondering where all my children were staying since this house looks small right? Our houses are built so we can use the attic and basement as rooms." This answer had answered the questions that Aiel had. "Why did you decide to house us ma'am?" Nel asked nervously. "You see, after all my children left I was alone. My husband died some time ago due to his health. He wasn't the healthiest, his health was declining since I met him." The lady said all with a smile. We continued to chat for awhile before heading to sleep.
