Why hadn't Alice realized it? How many times had she noted that he was unlike any other human?
The thought flashed through her mind. If he wasn't human, should she even try to save these humans? But no, the thought was shoved deep down.
Justa didn't hesitate as she did. With his great giant paws, he batted one wolf and then another away. Soon the ones that were left in the circle hesitated before attacking. Instead, they looked over their shoulder at Harris and whimpered.
"I'm sorry, Alice," Harris announced as he walked forward. "I wanted to be able to keep your pet for you. But it's obvious you can't keep a monstrosity like this. I'll get you a new human pet soon. This one needs to be dealt with."
Justa's ears twitched and he laughed with a husky growl. "And I'm supposed to believe that you can take me on? You're underestimating me, wolf."
"No, I think that's my line. Alice, get over here and away from him. I'm going to put him down."
"I'm not doing anything with you," Alice said with her own growl. "Why would you think I would after what you've done to me? You're not my mate, you're nothing to me but a bad mistake."
Harris scoffed. "Come now, that's not how you were reacting when you were wrapped around me and I was buried inside you. We are mates, we've mated."
Justa's ears flicked again and he paced back and forth as he waited for Harris.
Another reason to hate Harris. Could this wolf get any worse? If only she could throw away her own wolf for being swayed by him.
"Alice, regardless of how it came to be, you're my mate. I just want what's best for you. I get that you don't understand my reasoning, but look at the pack. They agree with me, not you. The humans have to be killed, every last one." He frowned as if something came to him and he turned his attention to Justa. "Speaking of which, why would you side with that kind of vermin? With your strength, you could end them."
Justa shook his head. "Strength is used to protect, not to kill. That's the lesson I learned with my own streak. These humans have done nothing to you, and yet you want to kill them."
"Nothing to me? Creatures like this hunt wolves for sport. I don't care what you are. I will strike you down where you stand for the Goddess is on my side and with her, I shall never be defeated. She gives me all the tools I need."
"Alice isn't a tool for you to use," Justa said it soft but there was a line of steel beneath his words. "If you value your life, I'd stop this and leave now with those who will follow you."
Harris snorted. "The pack is mine! There's no reason for them not to follow me. They know what the Goddess has decreed."
"They are?" Justa sat up straight and roared. Every wolf present, including those he had sent rolling before, crouched to the ground and whimpered. "Wolves, if you wish to live, then abandon this one. If you stand against me, I'll eat you."
That was one way to assert dominance.
Alice watched as her pack submitted. Despite her wanting that outcome, something had to be done at how submissive these guys were. They would all be punished for accepting Harris over her.
"Don't be fooled!" Harris called as he lifted his head and watched Justa. "They're lying. He's just sent to test your faith. The real decision is obvious. Stay with me and let's purge the filth from the world."
None of the wolves moved. Instead, they watched Justa as they continued to crouch and tremble. Even Jared wasn't brave enough to challenge him.
Alice nodded then turned to Harris. "It's time that you were punished for your lies and manipulation, Harris. I'm going to show my pack why you were never fit to lead to begin with."
"No," interrupted a growl behind her. Alice frowned and glanced over to meet Justa's dark eyes. "This is my fight now."
"What? Why?" she demanded. "I'm the Alpha, he insulted me. He stole my pack."
Justa nodded. "All of that is true, but he committed a sin far worse than that. I don't take this form lightly."
"Because of the humans, I understand."
Justa chuckled and rubbed his head against hers. "No, Alice," he said with a warm smile. "I was moved to act because there's no way I'm going to let anyone else claim you. Mate or not, none of that matters to me. All I know is after being parted with you, I wanted you back."
"But-" Alice interrupted.
"No," Justa replied again as he licked her forehead with his large rough tongue. "He tried to take you away. That's his greatest sin. You're mine, not his."
Alice and her wolf swooned at his words. She wanted to fight Harris, she wanted to put him in his place, but it looked more like she needed to reserve her strength for something more important.
She had other furniture to break at this point.
"Stay away from her!" Harris's eyes bulged as he dove in for an attack.
Justa batted him away with a sheathed paw. "Not yet, we're going to fight, make no mistake. But we're not endangering these humans anymore. We're going back to the pack. Wolves," he roared and they cowered to the ground. "If anyone touches a human without due cause, I will not be happy."
"You think I care if you're happy? Get away from my mate!" Harris growled and crouched. "Alice is mine. She's the only one truly fit for me."
"Enough," Growled Justa showing off his giant canines. "Move before I eat you where you stand, wolf. You'll never touch Alice again, and I'm going to enjoy erasing your stench off of her over and over again."
Harris wheezed. "Fine, but when we get there, no mercy. Not even a tiger is a match for what the Goddess has decided."
The muscles in Justa's back rippled as he moved and Alice lost all concentration as she watched. The already familiar butterflies danced in her stomach again. Flames of desire licked inside of her. She forgot about all else besides just how good it felt for him to be stretching her.
Could they make love in two different forms like this? She wasn't sure but as she glanced at his hanging dick she was once again reminded of just how big he was.
Alice was pulled out of her thoughts as the envoy stopped. Justa turned around and his rough tongue rasped over her cheeks and her muzzle. "Wait here," he ordered as he strode to the arena.
Alice nodded. She should check on Mark, but she couldn't move her limbs. All she could do was stare as the two combatants circled each other. Justa was twice the size of Harris but her former mate didn't seem the least bit worried.
Harris jumped first. He came short and snapped his jaws just scant inches from Justa's neck, but try as he might he couldn't quite reach the area. He grunted and turned to see a giant paw on his tail. Justa had captured him in seconds.
"This isn't going to go easy," Justa whispered as his eyes darkened to a dark gray storm. "I'm going to take my time taking you apart. You have been killing humans, tricking wolves, and you tried to take my pet away. I'll never forgive that."
"She's mine," Harris barked in reply as he twisted his body around and bit on the paw holding him.
Justa didn't flinch even as blood trailed down his white fur. "Is that all you have?" he demanded.
Harris snarled again and aimed for a spot lower on Justa's throat. This time he managed to sink his teeth in and hang like an accessory, but Justa didn't seem to care.
The tiger stared down his nose at him, took one paw, and with his claws slipped free he slashed across Harris's side. Bright red ribbons decorated the wolf and Harris howled in pain.
Maybe she should have felt bad for him but Alice couldn't find it in her heart to care what happened to this one. She'd been tricked enough by him.
Harris let go and fell but a moment later he was caught by the clawed paw and thrown into the wall. Bones cracked, Harris's howls dimmed and the whimpers filled the area.
"This is what it felt like for those you've murdered," Justa growled at him as he clawed another line through his back. "This is for the women you've tricked into believing that you're their mate." Another set of ribbons appeared. "And this one is for Alice. I'll never let anyone else hurt her again."
Justa reached forward and held Harris down with one paw before he leaned down and bit deep into the throat of the other wolf. Harris howled from pain and struggled against the bite calling out for his Goddess and even Alice herself but Alice continued to watch refusing to come forward.
Slowly the life faded out of his eyes and Justa stepped away from the cooling body and into the center once more. "If anyone else thinks they can challenge or control Alice, step forward so we can settle this."
