Emery had a good time riding in her fiance's silver Bugatti Chiron. Like she often did these days, she rolled down the windows and let some fresh air blow in her face. This would always bring a smile to her face and though Marcus Pierre was busy driving, he would glance at her from time to time.
"You act as if you've never ridden a sports car," he commented, making Emery shift her gaze to him.
"You know very well that I spent almost all my time at home these days," Emery Hayes sighed. "It feels great to get some air." Her gaze swept around the interior of the luxurious car. "By the way, why didn't you ride your motorbike today? I thought you love it."
"You're still not fully recovered and if I let you ride my motorbike in that condition, I will have to get an earful from my mother," Marcus Pierre bluntly explained. "It's better this way."
"You talked as if you make a huge sacrifice," Emery pointed out with laughter, earning a sigh from her fiance.
"It's all on your mind. I love driving motorbikes but I love driving cars too." He paused and added, "I have quite a collection of both. I mean, motorbikes and cars."
Emery raised a brow at the revelation and Marcus spotted it.
"Why are you making that face?" he asked her; feeling a bit curious.
"It's quite unexpected to me," she frankly replied. "I mean, you look so mature. You don't look like a childish guy who is crazy about collecting expensive vehicles and all."
"Childish?" He asked with disbelief written all over his face. "It's just an interest of mine and it's not like I spent my parents' money on it."
"I thought that you were still a business student like me. Was I wrong?"
Marcus Pierre sighed but when he recalled how Emery never knew him well even before she lost her memory, he decided to be a bit patient. "I do a lot of investments and buy stocks since I was 13. I started by saving the pocket money I received from my parents and now I'm 22. That means it's 9 years since I started and I have enough money on my own.
"My family has enough money even without me contributing to it. So, I don't think there is no harm in spending it on my interest because like you said, I'm still just a business student."
In an instant, Emery's reaction changed from indifferent to admiration. "Wow! Are you that smart?" She was practically beaming and it made Marcus chuckle.
"That was fast," he remarked on her change; ignoring her question.
"Now that I hear your story, I think you're a born businessman," Emery stated with enthusiasm. "Pierre Group will be very lucky in the future. Once you finish your studies, you will really start the work and achieve many greater things."
"I'm just glad that I'm interested in business," Marcus confessed. "Even if I'm not interested, it won't be like I have a choice as I'm an only child. So, whenever I think of it this way, I'm reminded of how lucky I am."
An heir to a powerful corporation who knew how to be thankful about such a thing?
Emery always knew that her fiance was a unique guy but... somehow, this made her see him in a new light. He sounded as if he knew the hardships of life and...
Emery's mind suddenly stopped thinking as something struck her.
Why were her thoughts so strange?
The way her mind worked... it was as if she was someone who was familiar with the hardships of life!
All of a sudden, the pain in her head resurfaced! With both of her palms in her head, Emery Hayes ended up grunting in pain!
This was more than enough to alert Marcus whose face turned pale at the sight he witnessed! Almost panicked, he pulled over the car in a hurry and turned his body towards his fiancee who was obviously in pain.
"What's wrong, Emery?" He asked as he reached out his hands to her, confusedly.
Wasn't she fine just a while ago? What happened?!
"My h -head," Emery stuttered with her hands still on her head. "It hurts!" She cried out, only to make Marcus even more scared!
Holding Emery's both hands that were practically shivering, Marcus thought of what to do with his panicked mind. His mother came to his mind and he hurriedly took out his phone and called his mother who picked it up on the second ring.
"Son -"
Dr. Lucia can't even finish her greeting as Marcus had no time for it, right now.
"Mom, Emery's condition is not good. She said her head hurts and it's severe. I don't know what to do." He wasn't even aware of how anxious he sounded contrary to his usual composed nature as he was overwhelmed with fear.
Perhaps... fear of losing the woman beside her. It was so damn hard to see her struggling while he was in the process of getting used to her new cheerful side!
Once he heard his mother's advice, he hung up the call and turned all his attention to Emery again. The latter seemed to be recovering a bit compared to before but... cold sweat was rolling down the side of her face and her hands were now on her ears.
"You have your pills with you, right?" He asked and picked up the water bottle which was in the middle. "My mother says you should take some to ease the pain. Then I will take you to the hospital," he said as he opened the water. "Where are the pills, Emery?"
Emery Hayes only glanced down at her bag but Marcus Pierre didn't miss the gesture. He quickly took her bag and then took out the small pill bottle. Without saying anything more, he helped Emery to take some of the pills and then waited until she calmed down a bit.
"Are you feeling better?" He asked with concern still written all over his face. He watched as Emery slowly put down her hands and nodded, gently.
He wanted to ask her more as he was dying to know what caused that. However, he recalled his mother's advice.
"Let's go to the hospital and let my mother check on you. She said to come right away," he told Emery who didn't say anything.
Despite the uneasiness in his mind and the unfamiliar disturbance in his heart, Marcus Pierre adjusted his position and held the steering of his car. Finally, he broke his gaze on her and started driving towards the hospital.....
