Chapter 7: Lights out

February 26th, 2017, 00:12

"Aaaannd...he's gone, come on let's move..." as the night watchman walked off toward his room, we gently slunk down the hall towards Tyler's room and knocked ever so slightly. He cracked the door quietly and tiptoed into the hallway with us.

Three days of observation and preparation led us to this point of tactical tomfoolery. A relatively simple scheme, while Ray and I, work on the power distributor downstairs, Tyler will switch on all the appliances and lights in his room while he's asleep.

Tyler waited outside his room door, while we descended to the maintenance room. Ray attempted to open the door hoping the janitor had left it unlocked, I sighed and quietly picked the lock.

"When did you learn to do that...?"

"I'll tell you later, we need to focus, Tyler's going to turn everything on in two minutes..."

"Right..."

With a light click of a pin tumbler, the door was unlocked. I sighed heavily and turned the knob. We walked in and searched for the electrical conduit system. I then proceeded to pick the lock and turn the main system power down.

Tyler's POV.

"Here's hoping..." He slowly turned the doorknob and started with the light switch, then moving toward the desktop and speaker. He connected his phone to the speaker's blue tooth function and left the room.

Terrence's POV

We sat patiently awaiting Tyler's call for some time. We were soon alleviated of this boredom by the slight buzzing of Raymond's phone.

"Ty...everything good? Great..."

He hung up and looked towards me. "Tyler is out, time to make some noise, what did you find?"

"Plugs, lights are up in 3...2...1..."

Frankie's POV

"Wake...up...Frank..." Tyler's voice said emanating

"Ugh, What...the fuck...?" The sleepy bastard stood up in a haze. He looked around as the lights flickered on and off. The computer starting up and shutting down.

"Is this some joke?" He stared at the screen with an annoyed look and approached to turn it off.

The speaker then echoed "Hello Frank..."

He froze in place and turned towards it "You again...!"

"Did you think it was over Frank? I'll never leave..."

"Stop..."

"Every time you feel safe, I'll be there..."

"Stop...!"

"Everywhere you go...I'll be there..."

"STOP!"

"I'll be your living nightmare...hehe heh"

"STOP IT!!"

He lifted the speaker and slammed it on the ground. The dormitory came alive as this was done. The nightwatchman opened his door to see Frankie standing over the destroyed object. His face was livid with discontent.

Terrence's POV

Ray and I had messed with the switches in the box for a few minutes before we both heard a loud crash. We exchanged looks and resolved to fix everything and leave the room.

Ascending the stairs we soon caught sight of the crowd gathering outside his dorm room. Tyler met us at the edge of the crowd, in the midst of it all the night watchman berated a disgraced Frankie who looked to me with seething rage.

"It was you wasn't it..."

"I have no idea what you're talking about..."

Suddenly, he burst through the crowd approaching me. He took hold of my shirt.

"You had something to do with this...I know you did..."

"Someone seems to be deflecting their mental problems onto someone else. What's wrong Frankie? Afraid you'll turn out worse than the freak..."

Immediately his face turned and he punched me straight in the face, felling me to the ground like an old tree.

"You have something to do with this freak, and when I find out what You are dead! You hear me?! Dead!!"

The watchman pulled him away and took him downstairs and out of the dormitory.

I sat up and examined my now bleeding nose. Ray and Tyler helped me to my feet as the rest of the dorm reacted to events.

"Frankie's gone nuts..."

"Yeah...totally lost his mind..."

"Yo Terrence if you like, need a bit of help next time, we got you. Teammates got to look out for each other, especially when teammates act like that..." A few other boys from the team nodded along with him.

"Thanks, guys. I'm hoping that won't be necessary. Right now, I just want to go to sleep and forget about today..."

Ray and I, then started walking towards our room. A cryptic smile graced my lips as we turned.

Ray whispered, "So did that go to plan..."

"Better than I had hoped, though I could do without the shot to the nose..." I replied with a slight chuckle.

As we got to our room, I dressed my bloody nose accordingly with some tissues and retired to bed.

'Bloody hell, you could have done with some retaliation there...'

'That would just escalate things in the wrong direction, Terri. We need to look like the victim, not the aggressor...'

'Sure, whatever you say, but at some point or another, if he tries to hurt us, I will get involved'

I sighed and looked to the ceiling of the room. Ray had taken a walk while I stayed here. I got up and looked in the mirror. The damage, wasn't bad, though the purple color of my nostrils was worrying, to say the least.

My examination was soon disrupted by a knock at the door.

"Terrence, It's Drake..." A voice called

"Come in..." I answered.

In stepped the captain, his face plastered with tape holding a mask over his eyes and nose. I grimaced at the sight for a moment

"I know, I know, I don't look like a million bucks right now..."He said with a laugh.

"Sorry..." I looked away with slight pain at my actions.

"It's alright...may I come in...?"

I turned and responded quickly, "Of course..."

He walked slowly and took a seat beside the desk.

"I wish this would have come at better terms but I had to talk to you..."

"About...?" I sat on my bed before him curious about what he wanted to say

"Well, I want you to captain the next game...officially I mean..."

"But doesn't the coach decide who the captain is..."

"You'd be surprised, we decide our captains and co-captains, keeps the team from infighting. Anyway, you seem the most capable right now and I trust you to take the team forward while I'm recovering..."

"Well...if you think I can what's to stop me right..." I chuckled, still a bit bewildered by the task.

"Also, I heard about what happened between you and Frankie, between us, I'm talking with the coach about uhh...extending his little sabbatical...permanently. Wish I didn't have to but he's out of control..."

"Got you..." I nodded slowly, giddy at the thought of kicking Frankie off the team.

"Anyway...I'll be seeing ya, remember, take care of the team."

"You don't have to tell me twice..."

He smiled and left the room. I dived into my bed and cackled into the pillow.

Soon Ray returned to find me in my mad celebration.

"Good news I hope...?"

"Never mind that my good friend, what happened on your walk..." I queried as I laid with the pillow between my arms.

"Well, Sandy was a tiny bit worried about events but I told her you were fine..."

"And Ava..."

He sighed and scratched his head "Kinda Radio silent at the moment buddy, sorry..."

"No problems Ray, it...doesn't matter, we can all laugh together once Frankie is gone okay..." I smiled half heartedly

"Yeah, sure dude..." He smiled back softly.

"Anyway, with all of this madness fluttering around I think it's time we moved towards the final steps of the plan..."

"That being..." Ray sat down on his bed opposite me.

"An attack..."

"How's this one supposed to work...?"

He asked as he leaned forward

"We'll need a few tools, this part of the plan can be very dangerous..."

"Whatever you need..."

I nodded and started relaying the plan.
