Entering the city I could honestly say it was quieter than I was expecting. But I guess coming from a modern world kind of skewers your perception of cities, you get used to big cities that never sleep, stores that are open 24/7, bars, restaurants, cafes, and a bunch of anything really. You get used to being able to buy almost anything no matter the time, principally for someone like me who was living in a big city previously.
And seeing such a big city like sentinel really shows you the difference of time, everything was in absolute darkness with just a few on and in between "richer" places with [Magelight] to illuminate the buildings.
But what really got me wasn't the colorful descriptions provided by Altair, it was the stunning silence that encompasses everything. I swear I could probably hear a scream across the city depending on the circumstances, yeah it was that silent.
Ah, and those cities you saw in the games? Completely and utterly horse shit, the city is fucking big, really big. And while I didn't see sentinel in any game previously, I am pretty sure I can't walk through the city in less than five minutes, so I can easily deduce that the real deal is way bigger and more complex than any game can correctly show. Yeah, I am pretty sure it would be impossible to make a game that perfectly matches the real world in 2021.
The Buildings? full of them, the fill the streets without letting any wasted land, but according to Altair this is some sort of main street so this is expected, all buildings are surprising colored considering that this world is rightly in the middle ages in terms of technology that is quite impressive. But I am pretty sure there is plenty of magic that helps you change the color of a simple building, [Alteration] is said to be very versatile, principally when you consider it lorewise.
Turalion guided us through different streets with the familiarity of someone who lived his whole life in the city, and considering the others displayed similar patterns I can also reduce they have a great familiarity with the city. From time to time I would flash my [Sharingan] briefly, something that took less time than a blink, but it was enough for me to capture some nice moments, it's kind of funny as I am pretty much taking "pictures" this way. Of course, I didn't stop using [Sense], I keep spamming my detection skill, that while it is the equivalent of an extremely rudimentary sonar right now, using it still has extremely usefulness be it for training and improving it, or simply maintaining my guard.
Seeing all the shit that can happen in a modern city that is theoretically more "secure" than this one, I don't hold any illusions that we are completely safe here, and considering what happened with Romel earlier and the implications of some of Jeff's warnings I am not gonna relax right now. Principally seeing that Romel sounded like the typical young master troupe, and those tend to be extremely annoying.
Soon enough Turalion guided us all deep into the city, left, right, left, left, right, right, right, right, left, left, left, then finally we stopped. According to Altair, it was a simple two stories house, [Magelight] was coming from the inside illuminating it and a little bit of the street. Without further ado, Turalions stepped forward and knocked on the door.
"Hey sister, it's me Turalion", he said in a louder voice trying to call what I think is probably his sister.
*Thump*
*Thump*
I heard a bunch of loud steps from the inside, until the door opened and an angry female Dunmer greeted us. I had activated my [Sharingan] for the time being seeing as there were no guards nearby according to Altair, so I could use my 10 meters sight again.
Tulia had shoulder-length greyish-black hair, her hair was slightly waved giving the impression it was relatively wet, her eyes a darker and more duller shade of red than Turalion's, she is smaller than Turalion around 169 centimeters, but her physique is clearly athletic showing great physical capabilities, she also has slightly more developed magic reserves similarly to Turalion. But the biggest difference is that she is a frigging cultivator, according to what I am able to see she is a peak [Master] rank, one level above me an [Expert], but considering the absurdity that is my [Wave] reserves, and [Wave] itself, I am probably stronger in direct combat. Doesn't make her less dangerous tho.
Tulia's expression morphed into anger, hope, worry, and ended up staying in relief, "By the Divines! Turalion. Is that you?", asked Tulia, her voice laced with worry and hope as if to mirror her face for a bit, she jumped towards turalion with rather impressive speed and hugged him tightly. I guess she answered her own question.
"Hah, it's me, big sis. I hope you didn't worry too much?"
"Didn't worry too much? Are you crazy? I was almost dying from worry brother. You went missing for 10 days. 10 DAYS. I was close to starting a warpath towards those dammed tome suckers-".
"Stop sis, I am back right now. You don't need to worry. Can we enter tho? We all are exhausted.", said Turalion interrupting his sister in the middle of her rant. Tulia, also, finally noticed the other five people with Turalion, her gaze immediately sharpened while she analyzed us. She easily passed through Aahin and Elii, either she recognizes them or they are simply not a treat, same for Altair too but her gaze trailed on his scar for a moment more.
Then her sight immediately stopped when she saw Shuten, her head going through innumerable possibilities, I could clearly see that she recognized Shuten absurd physical powers in that instant questions were raised but she decided to not voice any of them right choosing to believe in her brother.
But then her gaze landed on me, and the already sharp gaze felt like I was with the Darksaber itself pressed on my neck, it felt both equal parts scorching and lethal, her dull red eyes shone like a hot blaze in an ancient forge, her gaze filled with wariness and suspicion, many would falter under such a gaze. But I am not many, I stared down a high Lich from the Order of Black Worm, not wavered face to face with a Gyrosphinx in the depths of the desert, looked at the thousand eyes of an insect queen, and killed it. But when she looked directly at my eyes she nearly faltered, few can handle looking directly at these eyes and not falter, so I commend on her strength of will.
But there was one thing none of us accounted for, eyes are often said to be the window of the soul, so when she looked way too deeply, she let out a low surprised yelp when she saw the behemoth that is my soul and felt so incredibly small.
"Hello Tulia, my name is Altair, I am one of your brother's friends.", thankfully our awkward staring contest was broken before anything could really happen, bless Altair and his inability to read the mood.
This helped bring Tulia out of her stupor, shaking her head she said "Sup people, my name is Tulia, but it appears you all already know that. I am Turalion's sister, and I thank you all deeply for helping my brother. Let's enter everyone, it won't do to talk outside after all.".
Slowly everyone entered the house, and all this time Tulia's gaze didn't leave me even once. The moment we entered she closed the door behind everyone, right now we are in a rather spacious living room, walking inside more I was able to see that the living room is connected with the dining room and the kitchen, in the left corner there were some stairs leading upwards as a means of access to the second floor. Under the stairs, there was a suspicious cupboard and I am pretty sure no Harry Potter lives there.
"You all can get comfortable while I prepare something for us to eat, in the meantime tell me what the heck happened in these 10 days Turalion has disappeared.", said Tulia while she went towards the kitchen part with the objective of making a quick bite for all of us.
We all decided to sit in the living room, there was a bunch of pillows stew around on some elevated stone platforms, this is probably due to trees being way too expensive in this place so a lot of the furniture is made of a combination of stone and fabrics. The floor is also covered in a bunch of carpets, the house has a clear Arabic-like design that I could certainly appreciate.
Turalion then went and told her in great detail what happened, or at least what he remembered happened. The problem is that when the desert part started things started to get confusing and make no sense as everyone was telling a different version of what happened, but the even weirder part seems that Tulia didn't notice it, and considering her personality until now should've at least showed some reaction to it. Guess the effects of a [Dragon Break] are really scary, to be working even now... damn. Looking at Shuten she also appears to have noticed it too.
"... Damn, that shitty Order of the Black Worm. To dare to kidnap my little brother... I will fucking kill them... Hehe, I bet there are some pretty good rewards for killing those Lunatics, someone is bound to have put a price on their heads somewhere, I will check the organization later.", she said with a voice that grew increasing machiavellian at each word, as if she was already planning the demise of some of them.
"But throwing a damn [Elder Scroll] at a ritual like that... you are damn crazy boy... damn crazy.", she said that one looking at me, her hands quickly finishing the food and with some last swift movements she loudly says; "Food is ready, let's eat.".
Everyone quickly went to the wooden table, the wood was thick and hard almost as if it was some kind of stone, but it still looked pretty wood-like, the same for the chairs actually. I am just honestly surprised they have this amount of chairs really. As everyone prepared to devour the food we didn't forget to introduce ourselves one by one, Tulia showed slight surprise at finding that Elii and Aahin are both [Silver Rings], and a modicum of surprise at Shuten's race.
But when it came to me she said; "It is impolite to eat with your head covered.", everyone had already removed their head apparel be it turban or helmet, so she could see all faces rather clearly. I still haven't as I didn't expect to have to. Seeing no problem with the request I removed my turban and my under mask showing my face to everyone for the first time.
There was an absolute silence at the table, the previously amicable chatter died down, everyone who had previously looked in curiosity at what my face could really be paled considerably. They certainly didn't expect a disfigured face full of scars, scars around my eyes like the surface around them was broken and reconnected multiple times, scars around the mouth and jaw, scars that looked like tear marks, nonexistent lips, and eyelashes. I looked more like a freak of nature than anything else, and I am pretty aware of this, more perceptive people could still see crack-shaped scars across my face. My hair uneven and just simple random patches of black and purple fur, on the top of my head, I should shave it later. I barely look human anymore, heck those ugly ass Patchwork zombies we fought in the dungeon were more handsome than the current me.
My eyes are sunken, as if I lost a lot of skin around then making my sclera appear a little bit more than normal making then more pronounced, for those capable of seeing details clearly they could see a slightly purplish tone on my white sclera. It was a haunting sight to everyone on the table, I was a literal freak in appearance. Thankfully I had already done my face reveals a bunch of times in the alternate timelines of the [Dragon Break] so I was relatively immune to it, but seeing everyone's pale faces, their slightly horrified gaze, and the looks of pity and slight disgust sent in my direction. I am not mad or anything, I already expected this outcome, my face is disfigured and distorted, as I said previously I made those undead look handsome with my hideous face.
Altair as if feeling the awkward atmosphere has been going for too long said: "Damn boss. You are ugly as a Daedra.", another round of silence covered the table, everyone looked baffled at Altair's outburst about my appearance. This was a pretty good thing because it helped defuse the prior atmosphere.
"Well, Altair. I guess you are not wrong, but try to maintain some respect for the poor Daedra. They aren't that ugly.", Turalion spits all the water that was in his mouth at my comment, he almost started choking on it due to the absurdity of my response.
Elii slightly curious asks; "How?... How did you... Sorry I... It's probably a sensitive subject so forget it.", she slightly lost herself in her own words, almost as if she didn't think much about it before asking.
"Well, Elii. Let's just say that this is the price I paid for my vengeance. The consequence of my actions."
Dinner was a quiet affair after that one, everyone simply concentrates on ravaging their own food to satiate their hunger. Have I said due to my nonexistent lips more of my teeth are visible? Meaning if someone looked at me eating they may be able to see the food in my mouth. Yeah, it's pretty disgusting, but a man gotta eat, right?
What I noticed is that not even once did Shuten looked with disgust at me, I don't know but this made something inside of me stir in happiness(?), it was confusing, but I know it was a positive feeling. Everyone avoided looking at my face for obvious reasons, I also could clearly see that they felt guilty about it. Surprising Tulia was able to maintain her composure the second-best of everyone here.
Everyone finished their food rather quickly seeing as we all were pretty hungry, looking at my eyes Tulia said; "Now Turalion can you show our guests the house and their rooms? I want to talk with your friend Jin for a bit.", Turalion noded and started guiding everyone through the house, Elii sent me an apologetic look, while Shuten sent me an encouraging look. After that everyone climbed to the second floor where probably the guest rooms are.
"Now what do you want, Tulia?", I said while looking at this strange woman. What does she wants to talk about I wonder?
