15- Murder Mansion

Piece by piece, popcorn drops in my mouth. The Notebook was on, the best love story I've ever watched. I was a romantic type, the sappy love stories always grabbed my attention. Toward the end of the movie, I blubbered like a baby. Looking through the other channels, I come across an interesting documentary. As I'm watching, I notice something about the house they were talking about. It was our house, and I didn't know anything about it.

"The Hallows Mansion is haunted, it is also known as the Murder House. In this room behind the mirror, you'll notice a small door. Through this door, detectives found the body of a young girl. Diane Flowers was her name, her neck was cut, and her heart was cut out of her chest."

I gasped, remembering about her disappearance. She was only seven years old when she vanished from her home, but she was home, dead within the walls of the mansion. Her mother killed her whole family, leaving Diane to die, alone.

"You can feel the cold air rush through the hallway," she pauses, staring at the kitchen. "I think I see something, over there." She points, the cameraman follows in the direction she looked at. A little girl with long, black hair shows up on the camera, then the TV shut off. My heart dropped, I wanted to scream.

Sitting there, I started to think about our house, and what really went on. I couldn't sleep, so I started to read more about the mansion. On my laptop, I pulled up an article on the house. There has been thirteen documented murders from previous owners, and so far I've seen three spirits. I didn't quite understand what causes the murders, but I just kept reading anyways.

"What's really odd about the place is the fact that it's only the mothers that have killed in the house. each mother killed the husband, and then their children. You would think the nurtures would protect their children, instead they torture and hurt." What I was reading was horrifying, I couldn't look into it anymore tonight.

"Why are you up so early?" Dad asked, yawning. "I couldn't sleep, did you know about what happened in this house?" I ask him, he nodded. "We knew already, that's why the house was cheap on the market." I stare at him in disbelief. "Why would you buy a murder mansion?" I ask, he ignores my question. "Go to your room and get some sleep, that way you're not walking around like a zombie." I shake my head, "can I stay out here?" I ask, still scared to sleep in my room. "Only if you actually try to sleep, I want you to REST." I nod my head, closing my eyes.

Waking up in a Sweat, I look around the room, it was pitch black. Walking toward the office, my heart starts racing. Dad was nowhere in sight, I was scared. I could hear music from the kitchen, my feet followed the noise. "Mom?" I ask, confused. She had her blue apron on, and her hair was up in a messy bun. "Would you like to help me finish making the cookie batter?" She asks, smiling. I nod my head, feeling uncomfortable. "I'm actually not feeling well, I should lay down." I said, walking backwards toward the hallway.

All the lights were off down the hall, all of the bedroom doors open. Peeking in on Sophia, she had her back toward me. Thinking she was asleep, I let her alone. Flicking the light on, I look around mom and dads room. Rounding the corner, I drop to my knees. Dad was on the floor, he had a hole in his head. I checked his pulse, he wasn't breathing. Jumping backward, I run out of the room in tears. Closing the door behind me, I start to look for Nate. He was nowhere to be found, I knew he had to be hiding.

I begin to panic, not knowing what was going on, or why this didn't seem normal. Dane would have to know what happened. Heading his way, I found him on the bed. I couldn't feel a pulse anywhere on his body, he had been stabbed two times in the abdomen. My lip began to quiver as I heard mom whistling from the hall, a utensil scraping against the wall. I crawled under the bed, making sure I was hidden from her.

"Nicole, Nate, you can come out now. I made cookies, the frosting is red, like blood." Mom chuckled, my stomach in knots. I hoped Nate was hiding somewhere good, I didn't want her finding him. Quietly rolling out from under the bed, I quickly take off to the office. I spot dads cell phone on the floor, picking it up, severed fingers were attached to it.

Prying off the fingers, I race to my room; moving the mirror to the little door. Placing the mirror back, I lock the door behind me. My heart pounds as I turn on the phone, the starting beep was loud. Shining light around the room, I notice golf ball sized holes on the walls; they were invisible from the outside. I looked through each hole carefully, hoping to find Nate.

I followed mom around the house, she didn't look like her normal self. She was pale and clammy, her eyes drooped as she walked, she had to be possessed. About the ninth hole down, I see Nate. He was crouched, hiding under the coffee table. I whispered to him, guiding him to the door.

"Hey, buddy. Mommy is sick, we need to stay quiet so she doesn't find us. Are you okay?" I whisper, checking his arms. "I'm okay, just scared, Sissy." He sniffles, wiping the tears from his eyes. Looking through dads contacts, I pick his best friends number to text.

............

'This is Nicole, Ryans daughter. I need you to send the cops here, my mother is trying to kill us.'

'Is this a joke?'

'No, I'm being serious! Please, our lives are at risk. I can't call them, she'll hear us.'

'I'm calling them right now, just stay safe.'

............

Tears streamed down my face, I held Nate close.

On the news:

"Pregnant mother attempts to murder her whole family. Nicole and Nathan Duncan are the only known survivors. There was no telling what caused her to do it, Renae Duncan was sent to a mental institution, and hopefully we'll get some answers."

"The Hallows Mansion Murders strike again. Nicole and Nate Duncan will be in the care of the foster system, where hopefully they'll find their forever home. Nicole, Nate, we're all praying for you. In just a moment, Patrick will bring you the news."

"You guys should not be watching the news right now," Officer Casey says. He changed the channel to cartoons for Nate, trying to help him forget. "Nicole, looks like we've found a place for you two to go. The place is called Little Whispers Orphanage." Nate and I looked at each other, maybe it wouldn't be so bad. "I'll escort you there, just to make sure you get there safe. I'm sorry about what happened back there, if you need anything, here's my card." He hands me a small card with his name and number, I gave Officer Casey a hug, and thanked him.

"Here you go, kids." A lady says with a kind smile, "we'll figure out sleeping arrangements tomorrow."I nod my head and thank her. Wrapping my arms around him, I smile at him. "It's going to be okay, Nate, we just have to keep our heads up." He hugs me tightly, falling asleep with Douglas in his arms.
