20- He Wasn't Dead

Bundled up under my blanket, I try to get some rest.

The night was cold, fall was finally settling in. Laying down on the mattress, I watched the stars above; they were so bright and beautiful. Counting as many stars as I could, I finally drifted off into a somewhat peaceful sleep.

"Hey, wake up." Someone whispered in my ear. I jumped off the mattress and pushed myself against the wall. I was scared, I couldn't get myself to open my eyes; what if it was one of the children who found me? "Open your eyes, look at me." I was hesitant, but listened. I slowly opened my eyes, I couldn't believe what I saw.

"Dane? How are you here?" I ask, tears running down my cheeks. He pulled me in for a hug, Dane's skin was so warm. "They took you away, you were dead." I said, hugging him tightly. "I didn't die, Nicole. When the paramedics took me to the hospital, they noticed I still had a heartbeat. Instead of telling anyone, they let me heal. I was in a coma for two months." I couldn't quite understand, "I didn't feel a pulse." I said, he puts a hand on my shoulder. "I had an absent pulse, it was there but almost undetectable."

I nod my head, it made sense. "I missed you so much, Dane. How did you find me?" I wondered, he shrugged his shoulders. "The internet knows all." Smiling at him, I sat back down on the mattress. "Did you happen to see Nate while you were out there?" I ask, worried about him. "Where did he go?" Dane asked, I shrugged my shoulders; starting to explain everything. "He's gotta be out there, he's probably searching for the right person; you know how he is."

I couldn't argue with Dane, I knew he was right. Nate will not stop until he finds who he's looking for, but the question is; who is it?
