Chapter Ten.

May took a deep breath before she started walking down the steps. Daniel was already waiting for her downstairs. It wasn't until she had seen him that she realized how nervous she was.

What if he doesn't like my dress? What if he has changed his mind?

Question after question rushed through her mind. She still didn't know why Daniel had asked her out yet. Maybe he pitied her. Not that she didn't want him to fancy her, she just wasn't sure what had changed his mind.

He Was everything she was not and as much as she had dreamed of the day he would smile her way, it just shocked her.

"You look beautiful " Daniel commented his eyes going over her body.

But when was she not? He added internally. How he wanted to tell her how much he liked her, how much he cared, how much she meant to him.

He, however knew he couldn't. She was so pure. so innocent he could bring himself to taint her, no matter how badly he wanted to. He was starting to rethink this whole date .

"Thank you. You look beautiful too" she said and only realised what had come out of her mouth when she saw the corner of his mouth curve upwards.

"I mean handsome, you look handsome " she added quickly.

"Cute " he said simply, kissing the back of her hands.

She blushed and lowered her gaze, suddenly impressed by the design of the carpet below their feet.

"Let's go, yes? " he asked and started leading her to the car when she gave a silent nod.

"Have fun you two" They heard Amanda shout behind them.

"We will" Daniel said and she turned to look at him with a smile on her face.

The drive to the restaurant wasn't a long one, in less than ten minutes they had arrived.

May let out a gasp involuntarily as she let her eyes devour the magnificent scene before her. The restaurant was huge, and oh so beautiful, that being an understatement.

The place was covered in gold, golden doors, chairs, tables, everything was painted gold. It was elegant, not May's usual taste, but she loved it.

"It's beautiful " She said, Her Voice slightly above a whisper.

"Glad you like it kitten, come on" he led her inside, ignoring her flustered state due to the nickname.

May frowned as she looked around. It was surprisingly empty.

"Why is it empty? " she wondered a loud.

"I rented it our for the night " Daniel said simply beside her.

"You can't do that. Can you ?" she turned to him.

"I can , and much more. I own this place " Daniel admitted, and chuckled at May's surprised expression.

"Close your mouth, kitten you'll swallow a bug"he mocked.

She snapped her mouth shut, and looked up when she heard him laugh. She smiled at the sound, she wasn't used to it but it was beautiful.

"You are too cute" she heard him say.

He led her to one of the tables before drawing out a chair for her.

"Thank you " she rewarded him with a small smile.

"You're welcome" he said with a wink as he made his way over to his seat.

"Thus place is so beautiful " she said.

"Thank you. I am glad you like it . " He said before motioning for the waiter to come over with his hand.

"Good evening sir, ma'am. How may I help you ?" the waiter asked politely, though his gaze was fixed on May who was oblivious of it all.

"Will you keep your eyes off her? " Daniel bellowed managing to catch both May and the waiter's attention.

"Get us another waiter" Daniel ordered. Then he turned his gaze to May who was confused.

"Are you kidding me? I decide to take you out on a date and you flirt with a waiter in front of me?" Daniel shouted at May who was confused.

"What are you talking about, I didn't... " she began, not even sure what the whole drama was about.

"I should have know you would act like this. All women are the same, one man is never enough for women like you right? " he spat with so much malice that May found herself dumbfounded.

"What do you mean by a woman like me? " she asked, her voice low.

"You pretend to be innocent but we both know that's not the case. You like attention on you. You want every man to desire you. You are a manipulative woman" Daniel accused, his gaze piercing hers.

"Did you ask me on this date so that you can insult me? I don't even know what your talking about. O didn't flirt with anyone. "she practically screamed.

"You think I didn't see the way he looked at you? "

"And that is my fault, how? Did I look at him? No. Did I talk to him? " No. It's good to see how highly you think of me" she said standing up.

I am sorry, I... " This time she cut him off.

"I can't believe I thought that you wanted to take me on a date because you like me. I am so stupid. This is what happens when you hope for what you know you can't get. You end up being hurt and disappointed. Take me home" she said even as she made her way towards his car.

"I am sorry. I didn't mean it like that" He said, rubbing his forehead.

"Take me home " she repeated.

The ride home was quiet and filled with tension. Apart from Daniel trying to apologize a few time, ,nobody else talked.

"May, please listen to me. I am sorry okay? " Daniel pleaded desperately.

"You don't need to apologize. I was wondering why you had asked me out all of a sudden but now I know that Amanda talked you into it. It clearly wasn't your choice. You don't have to do a this. You hate me and it's okay, I can't force you to like me.

You know all my life I have had that prince charming dream. That one day I will meet someone who will sweep me off my feet. But prince charming loved Cinderella so much. And you... You have a girlfriend.

You are right. I am shameless. I agreed to go out with you despite knowing you have a girlfriend. It's just for a second, just a second. I wanted to pretend that you feel something for me, that you... forget it.

I won't bother you ever again. I promise. I won't even show my face to you from now on. Goodbye, Daniel" she got out of the car and made her way to her room before he could speak.
