The secret of healings skills

I went back to the dorms and I finally remembered what I had forgotten these last couple days. I still hadn't talked to Emilia about the idea of joining of Iris team. I got so distracted by the training with my own katana, I just straight up forgot to tell her.

After getting myself another great dinner from the dorm kitchen, I started looking for Emilia, although in reality she is probably in our room. I never saw her going somewhere else after dinner. However entering the room proofed me wrong as she was nowhere to be seen. I wondered what else she could be doing at this time, she usually comes back to the room after her afternoon classes. I didn't always have time to accompany her, so she might have picked up a new hobby or task in the meantime.

My bed looked quite welcoming and so I hopped into it instead of looking further for her. She would have to come back sooner or later anyway.

Two hours passed and I was already asleep by this time. Emilia entered the room trying to be as silent as possible but she still woke me up by bumping into her bed. Not turning the lights on wasn't the greatest idea she ever had, I gotta say.

"Emilia, hey what were you doing so late? I wanted to talk to you about something but I couldn't find you", I asked her with a sluggish voice.

Emilia was embarrassed as she noticed she woke me up and said: "First of all, sorry for waking you up, I can't see that well in the dark. I was at the nurses' office all the time, Stephen wanted to talk to me as well. He suggested to take me in as his disciple and I gladly accepted. We did some more training afterwards and lost track of time, which is why it took us so long."

"You can't see well in the dark? Has this something to do with your angelic side? Nice for you by the way, you obviously put in a lot of effort into learning how to use your powers. That's one of the reason I wanted to talk to you. Iris offered me that I could join her team and you could also join if you want. What do you think if it?" I asked her.

"No, it has nothing to do with my angelic side, just forget about it for now. It isn't that important. I also wanted to ask you for a long time if you would create a team with me. But I'm fine with joining Iris as well, I only declined her because I wanted to be with you. I think the both of us would make a great team. I want to give joining Iris a try at first however, if we can't synergize well with them, it's just a waste of time and effort", Emilia answered.

"Great, then I will ask Iris tomorrow if we could train together to see if we synergize well and maybe get to know each other a bit better. The thing I would see as the biggest problem is that, with the rest of her team we would be six, which would make us quite a big team for first years and a rather unbalanced one at that. Having two healers is a bit overkill for six people after all", I told Emilia, planning ahead on further training. My life was really focussed around it by now but I didn't even notice this back then.

"You know, I could use this opportunity to concentrate more on my buffing abilities. My healing skills are pretty good by now but the other usages of my celestial energy lack behind", she said with a glimmer in her eyes, showing her excitement.

"How does your healing ability work anyway? Buffing seems to be something different in the end or not?" I asked her as I had been curios about this for a while.

"My healing ability doesn't heal by itself, it rather powers the cells of the body up to improve their own natural healing capabilities. This also makes it very hard to heal severe wounds, as I would have to supply a lot more energy. Buffing works in a similar way, I just focus on improving something else in the cells. Instead of the healing capabilities I could improve your muscles, for example, to make you stronger and give you better reflexes. Debuffing works the other way around, that's why I'm not able to do it. But Stephen told me if I could improve my control skills over my celestial energy enough, I could get a basic grasp of it. Nowhere close to what some demon hybrids can do, but a nice addition to my toolkit", Emilia explained.

"Oh, I see. That's why Mr. Black told us about healers becoming swordsman, as they are able to buff themselves to narrow the gap between them and regular fighting oriented hybrids. You can try your powers out all you want on me tomorrow. But for now, let's go to sleep", I suggested.

And so we did.

The next day came and we headed straight for the training hall after breakfast. Iris and her team were probably already there, as we slept a bit longer since it is a Sunday. And just like I had thought, the four were training as a group in the middle of the training hall. We approached them and I started talking: "Hey Iris, I have made my decision and so has Emilia."
