Rising tension

While we were all training and having somewhat of a fun time together, the world outside also moved on and didn't come to a standstill.

I didn't give what Mr. Black accidentally revealed to us that day a second thought but later on I would find out just what he was implying. The school or his own information sources must have informed him what was going on in the non-human nations. Us students couldn't get much information from the outside, we were only allowed to send letters to our family only once every couple weeks. Nobody wrote something in there aside from personal matters, so politics of the outside were kept hidden.

The military probably checked all the letter, so no one could leak any vital secrets to the outside. Not that we knew for sure since nobody even dared to try.

And for what was happening in the outside world: Angels and demons were once again starting to get more aggressive towards each other. Both of the races were starting to look for people to join their ranks; this involved both humans and hybrids alike. The human nation would probably get involved like every time in past history. Even though humans were more united than ever, some still fled to the more likely winner side, either the demons or the angels.

This wasn't for no reason; in the past the neutral humans had suffered most from the wars. This sounds contradictory but the celestial races always liked to hold their battles in the human nation. That way, their own nations wouldn't get destroyed as much and could prosper further, while the humans got another setback. Basically a win-win for them.

Although them getting aggressive towards each other didn't mean much for us students for now, since it would presumably take another couple years till a full-fledged war would break out. Though no one could tell for sure.

The war could even start right when we finish the hybrid school. This would be the worst outcome possible. The longer it took for the inevitable to happen, the better for me and the rest of my friends.

One thing was clear however, it wasn't a question of it would happening at all, it was a question of when it would happen….

"You have changed a bit, back in the day you wouldn't help out the younglings like you did today. Maybe this is even for the better", a deep voice said with a certain spark of joy to it.

"It's just that they will need it more than any kids did before them. With what is currently happening in the angel nation, they will be thrown into this eventually. The more trained they get, the better their survival chances are in the end", Mr. Black pointed out towards the man sitting before him.

The man was, of course, no one other than the headmaster himself.

"How do you even know the exact details of the current situation? I thought you mend to retire as a teacher for the new generation. But yes, your intel is correct. The leader of the angel nation surprisingly passed away a while ago and they are electing a new one. That old man had his fair share of wars and only focused on keeping peace for the past years, so every change in leadership would imply a high certainty a war outbreak with the demon nation. After all, the peace had held for longer than ever before and many strive for new conflict. Even the tiniest spark will be able to ignite this situation into a storming inferno. Nothing has been officially announced so far, but they are preparing in the shadows."

"I got my sources, after many years of working for the military you get to know certain people. They won't forgot their old friends so soon. I just hate that we won't be able to do anything to stop the war from happening. Makes me feel like a helpless child. The best we can do is prepare with our greatest effort and pray for the best. Who knows, maybe if we can get another five to eight years, we could even be able to grasp the chance humanity has been waiting for so long", Mr. Black theorized with a rather unsure expression.

"Well, the blue family seems to think alike. By what I heard of they will be announcing in the next days, the situation is getting serious. Even the students will notice the consequences sooner or later. We should probably step up the training already, the blue family will eventually force it on all the schools. The burden on the students could be lessened by doing so earlier and ramping it up slower", the headmaster explained and continued after a short break he continued, "You will inform the other teachers of this decision, but don't spill too much details about the actual situation for now. Only tell them as much as necessary. We don't want to get anyone panicked here."

"Yes, sir. What about the girl though? You know which one I mean. We definitely won't be able to focus as much on her anymore and this means she would have to stumble upon someone who can unlock her dormant abilities by her own", Mr. Black asked and the headmaster could barely believe what he was hearing. Worrying about a single student was quite unbefitting of his character after all. Knowing this man for so many years had him gotten accustomed to his rather cold attitude towards everything in the world.

"It is a huge gamble anyway. Focus more on the students who have actually shown potential so far. With those, we know better what we can get out of them. Maybe she will have a chance once she goes outside for her first mission. Maybe…, if someone leads her on the right path when the time is coming?" the headmaster proposed with a certain undertone.

This decision would influence the future of all the students greatly, especially Yoru's. The leisure time of live in the hybrid school was coming to its end.
