Chapter Twenty Eight

She looked at the ring and then at her finger. This wasn't the same engagement ring she had when she went to sleep.

"What's going on Adrian Buckley?" She asked picking the ring out of the soup.

"Actually it's Adrian Mitchell. The tumor lied to you. And I broke off our engagement after getting our marriage annulled." He explained and Munzi sighed in relief.

"Oh my God, that's such a relief." She said eating more of her food.

"What do you mean you are relieved? Were you not happy to be married to me?" Adrian asked needing clarification.

"What are you talking about? I love being married to you. I just don't like the name Buckley very much." She explained and then stopped the spoon halfway to her mouth. "Wait, did you say that you got our marriage annulled and broke off our engagement?"

"I did and you said that you were relieved." Adrian said also not getting what was happening.

"What do you mean you broke off our engagement and what is this ring doing here?" She asked remembering it.

"I'm proposing. I realized that we didn't get married entirely for the right reasons." He explained and Munzi pushed her food away.

"Hhm?" She asked.

"I asked you to marry me because I was scared of dying without having the chance to marry you. So I broke off everything so that we could do it right." He said and went down on one knee.

"Adrian what are you up to this time?" She asked smiling.

"Smiley Munzi Kimere, will you marry me?" He asked holding the ring and looking at her with puppy eyes.

"Yes I will." She said smiling even wider. He put the ring on her finger and kissed her lips.

"I love you." She said kissing him again.

"Come on finish your food. There are people downstairs waiting for us at the party." He said standing and then sitting next to her.

"What party?" She asked. He looked down sheepishly.

"I brought reinforcements in case you didn't get up again. My parents are also here." He said smiling at her.

"Your parents came? Oh my God. I'm not even properly dressed. I've never met them. I need to make a good impression." She said but didn't move. "Thank you for saving me and marrying me twice."

"Not quite yet. We are going to be having a big wedding in a few months and we are both going to plan it." He said popping a piece of bread into his mouth.

"I don't know how it happened but I just fell in love with you again." Munzi said and kissed him again.

"Come on let's hurry. There's real people waiting." He said and then stood up.

"Where are you going?" She asked.

"I'm going to pick out a dress for my fiancee." He said disappearing into the closet. Munzi looked at the simple ring he'd given her. It wasn't over the top just small enough to catch the light when she moved her hand. She grinned one last time before finishing her food.

"Adrian are you done yet?" She asked getting into the closet.

"Yeah. I just saw this gown. I've never seen it on you." He said holding the green gown she had worn when she won the miss CHS title.

"That's because I haven't worn it in so many years." She explained taking it from him and running her hands over the fabric. "I wore it when I won the miss CHS title eleven years ago."

"You were miss CHS the same year we met?" He asked eyes widening.

"And miss Kendi the following year. And the miss world the year after that." She said proudly moving to the back of the closet to find her crowns.

"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked taking the dress from her.

"Because you already knew. Don't you remember? On our wedding day, you said that you saw it on Facebook." Munzi reminded him starting to get worried that he might be suffering memory loss from the tumor.

"A little. I'm sorry." He said running his hands through his hair.

"Don't be. It's not your fault." She said pushing some stands of hair from his face. "Now let me get dressed and we can go downstairs together for the party."

"It's also Christmas Eve." He added getting out and closing the door.

"It's Christmas already? How long have I been gone? Jesus I have so much to make up for." She told herself and hurriedly got into the dress this time remembering to put on a bra.

"Are you almost done in there?" He asked looking at the time. He didn't know his fiancee as the type of woman who took hours getting ready.

"Yeah." She answered strapping her heels before getting out.

"Did you wait too long? I kinda lost track of time." She asked not looking up since she was tying her head in a high bun trying to recreate the look.

"And it was worth the wait." Adrian said taking in her elegance. She didn't look sexy. She was simply beautiful, a masterpiece and work of art. Something meant to be.

"You like it?" She asked twirling making the dress rise and expose her legs.

"If mother nature was a person, you would be it." He simply said holding her waist.

"Thank you. That's the best compliment I've ever received." She said heading to the door.

"Do we have to go?" He asked thinking about how he didn't want to share the beautiful woman with anyone else. If he could, they'd go to the moon and live there alone forever but that wasn't possible and she was happy here. His happiness was also where she was. He followed her.

"Yeah. Everyone's waiting." She said turning the door knob.

"You should know that they are still worried about you. So don't take it personal if they look at you with pity." He warned.

"Don't worry. I'm a warrior and sometimes I like it when people feel bad for me. Reminds me that we are all human." She said smiling sweetly at his concern.

"I haven't seen anyone who wanted to be felt sorry for before." He said walking with her down the hallway.

"That's because most people are proud."

"You are weird."

"I know and we both love it."

"Yes we do."

The rest of the night was everything they expected. Pitiful looks which were welcome and lots of hugs and kisses. It wasn't your typical Christmas Eve party but it was perfect for the occasion. Like they liked to say, sometimes even similar problems require different approaches.

"Munzi can I talk to you in private?" Adrian's mom, Cally, asked.

"Sure Mrs Mitchell." Munzi said smiling at the older woman. For a woman who was in her sixties, she was sure beautiful. "Let's go to the drawing room."

"Lead the way. It's your house." Cally said and followed her soon to be daughter in law.

"Here." Munzi said opening the door to the drawing room. Until now, she didn't understand why they had bought this house. It was so red and orange. But Adrian had insisted that they buy it for no good reason and having been newly weds, Munzi had agreed not wanting to break the magic. They would revisit that discussion later tonight.

"What did you want to talk about?" Munzi asked leaning against a huge table.

"My son." Cally said taking a seat.

"Okay." Munzi replied wondering what could have prompted that discussion.

"He seems happy. Actually he has been very happy since he met you." Cally started. "I never thought that he could love someone after his wife but he met you and even stood up to his father. My husband wasn't always the down to earth person he is now."

"Why are you telling me this?" Munzi asked still not understanding if she was in trouble or not.

"Because dear, I'm grateful to you. You gave me my family back and my son too. He told us what happened after his surgery. You saved him even if I don't quite believe in the whole Greek goddess thing. Just don't leave him. We are all better with you in our lives."

"Leave him? I would never do that. He is the love of my life and makes me a better person. I wouldn't be the person I am today if I never met him. As for the Greek goddess thing, it's just faith in God. Faith can move mountains." Munzi explained smiling at what was unfolding. It was nice to hear that she had a good influence on Adrian.

"You two are weird." Cally said taking Munzi's hand.

"I know. He's like the sun and I the moon. I reflect his light." Munzi said.

"Everyone should be so lucky to find that kind of love."

"We are very lucky. Actually I think we are legends. We don't let anything that destroys others trouble us. As long as we have each other, the world could burn and we wouldn't care." Munzi smiled at hers and his relationship. Just then the door opened.

"What are my favorite girls talking about?" Adrian asked entering.

"Nothing." Cally answered.

"Periods." Munzi replied at the same time.

"Oh." Adrian said uncomfortable and got out leaving his mother and fiancee laughing.
