Chapter 23

There were five of them, huge, towering men, with heavy armor that gleamed in the late afternoon light. Elaine could hear her mother's screams from inside the house, and she knew that her father must be shielding her and Daniel. 

Anger burned in Elaine, and immediately she screamed, "Hey! Stop it! What do you think you are doing?!"

The knights looked up and saw a ferocious teenage girl running toward them, kicking up dust from the road. They also saw their princess standing in the middle of the road, looking horrified, her mouth agape. 

One of the knights began to laugh. "Boys, I don't believe it! What luck! We found the girl and the princess. The king will be pleased to know that we have secured them both. He may even give us a handsome reward," he said. "Wait," he said, squinting at Elaine. "I know you. You are the dumb bitch who broke my leg!"

It was indeed Sir Gregory. Although his leg had been broken, he seemed stronger than ever.
