Chapter 37

They came to the small cabin wearily, each and every one of the girls dripped sweat and exhaustion. They barely tied up their horses before falling deep into sleep. It was Avril's cabin, and she had lived there with her husband. They only had one bed, and the girls all piled into it, not caring if they fit or not. 

Mariel lived there now with Avril, and it was barely bigger than a shack. It had only two rooms, a kitchen with a simple stove and a small bedroom. Although it felt cramped sometimes, no one minded sleeping in the same bed; they were all just happy to be alive. Some took turns sleeping on the floor; Alicia volunteered to go first. 

The next morning, they awoke to a bright morning sunlight streaming into their window. The air was cold, but they quickly made cups of hot chocolate to warm their hands. The drinks seemed to soothe everyone's soul, and they finally all looked around at each other.
