Chapter 16: The Temptation

Avery smiled, but this was not her usual smile. It was more of a smile one makes when they are about to plan something bad. Jane knew that she’s at fault as to why Avery was like that. If she only dated nice guys, Avery won’t be reminded of her past. Jane looked down. Her arm was extremely broken and all of her body was full of bruises.

Avery held her friend’s arm. Her touch was warm and comfortable despite her scary aura. Jane turned to her. “Babe, you need to promise me for real this time that you are never going back to that asshole.” Jane saw the hurt and sad look on Avery’s eyes and she nodded.

“I’m sorry.”

Avery smiled and patted her friend’s head, “Don’t be sorry. We all make mistakes.” She then stood and got her bag again.

“Where are you going?” Her voice turned out to be scared than worried. Avery smiled at her once again as she fixed her bag, “Just out. I’ll be back after a few hours.”

Before Jane could say anything, Avery left the room. Avery’s aura was now different from the one earlier. She’s back in her game but before she goes back to Carson, she needed to finish something. She got her phone as she walked into the hospital hallway.

“Hello, Avery? It’s been a long time.” The voice on the other line was deep and husky. It instantly made Avery smile upon hearing it.

“Hi, Alex. I didn’t want to bother you unless it’s safe, like you instructed.” Out of all her exes, Alex was the only one she can call anytime. She knew Alex had to stop their “relationship” not because of his wife but because of his career.

He did give Avery a lot of things even after their break up and they remained friends. But to Avery, it wasn’t friendship. It was more of a deal. If he did her a favor, she needed to go on a date with him. It was a harmless date so Avery didn’t mind.

“What can I do for you?” He asked as he knew she won’t call unless she needed something. Her voice was also different from her usual ones.

Avery called a cab. “I needed you to get rid of someone.” There was a long pause from the other line. “What do you mean?” Alex is not a bad guy but he knew some gang and they are good at what they do. She took a deep breath and rode the cab.

“Someone hurt my bestfriend. Remember Jane? Some bastard hurt her and now she’s in the hospital. He needs to pay for what he did.” Alex cleared his throat. “But what do you mean by “get rid”? I can’t kill a man, Avery.”

She laughed as the cab started moving. The driver kept on looking at her and she can see him eyeing her breasts. She rolled her eyes and covered her chest with her bag. She looked by the window. “Just hurt him or make him realize what he did.”

“And what do I get in return?”

She smirked and flipped her hair, “Well, do you have any requests?” The cab driver looked at her once again. Avery moved her phone away from her mouth. “Will you please focus on the road and not on my chest? Is this your first time seeing a woman?”

The man was startled and turned to the road. When she moved the phone back to her ears, she could hear Alex laughing from the other line. “You amuse me, Avery.”

“Oh you love me too much. We can meet at our usual date spot. Just let me know when you’re free.”

The cab stopped when she reached Lee Technology. She gave the cab driver her payment with no tip. He didn’t say anything and didn’t even bother turning around.

When she entered Carson’s office, he was still there. He was surprised to see her but she didn’t say anything. She tried keeping calm on the ride there but she can’t. She sat in her place and started checking if she can start anything.

“Avery?”

She took a deep breath and turned to him. “Yes?” The worried look on his face made her pause but she can’t be distracted. She needed to remind herself that Carson is a man and he could hurt other women in the future.

“I thought you’re staying in the hospital?”

Her smile was now more seductive than usual. She pouted a bit as if thinking of a solution, “Well, my friend’s partner will be there so I wanted to give them personal space.” He nodded and continued working.

For minutes, the room was filled with the sound of the keyboard coming from her laptop. Carson would look at her from time to time as if to check if she’s alright then proceed to sign some papers. Her movements were still the same but her aura was different.

After a couple of minutes, Avery stood up and head to the coffee maker. She got one cup and used the coffee maker. Her movements now are graceful and he can’t help but look at her. Afterwards, the smell of coffee lingered around the room. She then started walking in his direction.

She placed the cup on his table. He looked at it then back to her with curiosity written all over his face. But what surprised him was the lustful look on her eyes. He remembered the night they kissed. She looked fragile but thirsty for something.

“I made you coffee.”

He doesn’t know but he just wanted to pull her into him and pin her on the table. He was fighting this urge but he lost control when she touched his hand, “You’re shaking.”

He immediately stood up, grabbed her arms, and pushed her to the wall. Avery’s eyes widen as she felt Carson’s adrenaline. She smirked as she touched his lips.

“Hi, predator.”
